Statement about AP Situation - 10-16-2007

P5ers,

The past 72 hours have been really difficult for us here at P5s as things have gotten out of hand quickly in regards to the AP super-user situation.  We have never faced a situation quite like this before; one of our trusted partners has been accused of serious security vulnerabilities, and the accusations appear to have merit.  In fact, when this situation first came to light, our inclination was to dismiss it as another “online poker is rigged” post.  However, after careful examination of all the facts presented, it’s just not possible for us to do that anymore.

Thereby, we have decided to indefinitely suspend any promotion of Absolute Poker, including site links, banners, and inclusion of future tournaments in the rankings.  Please understand that this is not a conviction on our part; it's simply an acknowledgement that significant and meaningful questions have arisen about the security of their site, and until those questions can be resolved to our satisfaction, we don't feel comfortable encouraging our users to play there.

We're in the process of removing links and promotional materials--most of them are down already.  Please be patient while we get this all set.

Looking ahead, we intend to work with Absolute Poker as closely as possible to get all the facts and decipher them from "Internet folk lore."  In fact, we've been on several phone calls today with AP trying to find out what they know about this situation and how they’re dealing with it. We’ll continue to press them to try and find out more.  They’ve also invited us to have full access to their office and systems, and we’re hoping to be able to use that access to find out more about what went wrong.  Anything and everything we discover will be reported here on the site, and hopefully it will shed more light on the situation.

In closing, I'd like to say that we all want what you want---for online poker games to be safe, fair, and trustworthy.  We hope that our decision helps us all in realizing that goal.

Best,

--Adam

This is sickening. I always strongly suspected that some of the sites are doing that because of many many many many many suspect hands I have seen over the years.  There is a way to catch them all if someone comes up with a good interactive website that incorporates hand histories.  Careful study and processing of percentages will weed out people and put them on immediate radars.  I don't have the computer programming skills so I hope someone comes up with it soon because I just might have to quit online poker for good.

Is there possibly a connection between Absolute and UB and the deposit method of E Wallet Express?  Poker Stars and Full Tilt does not use E Wallet, ( I believe Bodog did at one time).  E Wallet charges a fairly high rate for deposit, but it is instant.  One thing I've thought interesting is E Wallet Banking is through the Navahoe System.  Just wondering if anyone knows why PS and FT do not use them?

Ridiculous Web Site. Another nut builds a web site. I even read through some to the site reviews and see the tone of suspicion in them. Why don't these people provide some real evidence to back up their claims that online poker is rigged? Why? Because if they searched for this evidence they wouldn't find it and would have to face the fact that they are not any good at poker. Have you ever actually calculated the ratio of bad beats you are dealt compared to hands you have sucked out. I'm sure over a large enough sample it evens out.

I have been on a bad run of cards recently and it has caused me to tilt some. I'm not delusional to think that the site is rigged because i remember other times when I have been dealt ridiculous amounts of great cards and hands and have won plenty of money (More than I lose). It runs in cycles. There is no "Doom Switch". Only the "Doom Switch" in your brain. Change your attitude and you may just change your fortune.

Lets remember our past history. when the japanese bombed pearl harbor we took all the japanese looking people here in the united states and put them in concentration camps, after 9/11 we detained numerous arab looking individuals. my point being p5s taking down all the AP advertisements may be an over reaction. AP has allowed p5s to come in and look at their books and sit in as a third party auditor reviews the software. If AP is guilty then they should be banned from allowing online play, but if they are not guilty of anything sites like this should allow them to advertise for free and receive numerous apologies.
We all should be worried about the future of online poker. There have been some very intelligent people writing here. don't you think they could hack into another site? then another? we need to support online poker,I know we all like to jump to conclusions and on the bandwagon when something  happens, but just think of the long term possibilities of all sites being shut down because of a scandal. it could very easily happen.

We all have an opportunity to send a serious message to all online sites that think about cheating.  Whether it only 1 person or one occasion whether absolute poker cheated doesn't really matter. This remains an opportunity for every player to send a mesage to all poker sites.  We have to ban absolute poker altogether. Sink that ship. NO ONE, BUT NO ONE should player there.  If they stay in business it's a message that remains in the back of peoples's minds and anyone i a position to do something like this will see that absolute survived it.  ABSOLUTE POKER MUST GO DOWN.  And those who were involved must go down as well, HARD!  All poker players need to do their part to show that we will not tollerate this garbage.

Ok i know that i'm going to get flamed for saying this but i don't care.  This is exactly what happens when you don't have a regulated industry.  I know that most of us hate government, but the fact is that if you allow those with the lust for money to run wild, well they will.  Look at the economy of the 1920's. it was completely unregulated, and due to the lack of oversite, the crooks took over, because once one company starts cutting corners, the other have to do so in order to keep up with the competition.  I welcome regulation while holding my breath from the stink.

Are these accounts MILKMONEY33, and DCARLC legit, or do they belong to the inside AP crew?

Congratulations to MILKMONEY33 and DCARLC on hitting back-to-back Bad Beat Jackpots last weekend worth over $720,000 collectively.

how does a player raise b4 flop and then call a 3x reraise w/ 9-5 off? how does a player call the flop and turn with 2-2 and a 10-10 /J rainbow on board regardless of the undersized (compared to pot)bets? They are stupid ....right? makes me wonder....and I  hate wondering! Look these guys over close this will effect the future of congressional thought process. Good thinking ,keep it up!
