Stupid Poker After Dark comment from Raymer

Poker players who have had tournament success never look more like financial idiots than when they say something as stupid as Greg Raymer did in Poker After Dark.  He revealed to the table that he played a golf match vs. Gavin Smith for 1 million dollars per hole.  Whether this is true or not doesn't matter as much as the fact that he claimed to have done this and is owed 1 million by Gavin.  Playing poker for big money is one thing, as over the long term, better players will win more,  but playing a million per hole in golf is out of Raymer's net worth by a factor or at least 1000.  Even Tiger Woods couldn't afford to play golf for a million a hole.  I think perhaps Bill Gates and Warren Buffett could, but unless you have at least $10 billion in net worth, you just come across looking like a financial buffoon.

Well I suppose it was just the Certified Financial Planner part of Stabbyfoulke and not the poker player/ gambler part that went into my thinking when I wrote this post.

As a CFP I still like my position on the issue, but I respect all of you million dollar a hole gamblers, good luck.

Didn't read any of the responses but I'm pretty sure Tiger can play for 1 million a hole, whether or not he has the "bankroll"...lmao

lol at the op trying to apply bankroll management in degenerate gambling..."You need x amount of buyins in order to do this, or else damn you!!"

This is retarded.  If Raymer thinks he is +EV here then why not go for it.

HOW in the world can you say tiger would not do this deal?

This is like my playing someone tic tac toe for a million a game.  I WROTE A BOOK ON TIC TAC TOE.  I WILL DOMINATE THE WORLD.  I know I can beat you so who cares what my net worth is.  It's a great bet for me.

OP has no clue what he's talking about.

I would bet everything i own on a last longer in contra (as i am supremely confident there is nobody in the world better than me) for nintendo, but I would seriously consider playing you @ highstakes golden eye for 64...i've never found anybody better than me at that game though i have found a few equals.

I believe Raymer played Gavin for 1 million per hole about as much as I believe that Gavin wagered 70K per year vs. 100K per year for 10 years with Allie Prescott at the WSOP circuit event in New Orleans.

All propoganda for the media imho.

I beg to differ, Tiger could afford to play for 1 million per hole against any pro.

Edited for you.

LOL... I think Tiger would play Phil Mickelson AND John Daly scramble format for 1 mil a hole and let the lefty and the drunk press beginning around the 3rd tee box.  Dont ever compare Tiger's edge over the rest of his sport to ANYONE and their related field/sport.  Just plain dumb IMHO.

I would play any member of P5's for $100 / hole anyday of the week.  Golden Tee 2006 FTW.

Caring about what rich people do with their money is a pure waste of time.  Rob Schneider hires Mexicans from the local market to choke him in the shower, Bill Gates had a batcave constructed in his sub-basement and Dick Cheney had a robot constructed and made it President.  Well, we may want to care about that one since the robot is currently broken.

Not only is this none of our concern, caring about it just legitimizes the fact that most of these idiots actually deserve the money they have (see Jamie Gold, Jerry Yang, most young blue bloods).

$500m net worth for Tiger is not generous. In fact it's probably significantly lower than reality
