I have played poker for nearly 3 yrs now.. this has been the worst months ever.. I have lost the enjoyment out of the game and i am deciding to give it a break. I was playing poker comfortable this time last year. enjoying playing it everytime. Now i have lost all interest and just keep losing my money all the time. I dont kno if it is me tilting or just running bad. Im not losing my money wiv marginal hands i am losing with massive hands. i have gone broke and for all the poker players out there who have gone broke this is the worst feelign in the world. i went from doing wot eva i wanted to now having no moany wot so eva.. i was at university last year, i had about $20k bankroll and was palyin good. i then hit a very good patch and was constantly winnign about 1k every day. then it all went bad. i look at my poker history and over one month i won and lost $40k. i had to quit uni because i had no money left and thn didnt wanna work cus i thought y work for £5 an hour wen i could earn tht in 5 mins online. my whole concept of money has gone. even now wen i have no money, as soon as i get some i put it into one game straight away and try and build some money back up. however i never do. ive lost my girlfriend because of the game, as she hates the way it makes me feel wen i lose. ive decided to go back to uni and stop playin while im there. i dont kno wether to totally stop and just play it for fun. like small sng's. but im scared if i get another big win thn fink i can win at the game again. i suppose me losing is mainly down to bad bankroll management and lack of disicpline..

Are you in the UK - if so what uni are you at?

No shit, I had a hard time reading that.
Dude, if you won and lost 40k and take any and all money you obtain and blow it in online poker, it's not "uni" you need, it's professional help. Sorry, but it's true. I only wish I could win $1k a day.

Everyone is advocating a break here, but I'm reading this and see something different.
1) He feels horrible when he loses (who doesn't). 2) Bad enough that he lost his girlfriend because of it 3) He has lost rediculous sums 4) He has no respect for money 5) He quickly tries to build a bankroll back and loses all the time (sounds like chasing to me) 6) He has lost any form of fun with the game.
It really sounds like your addicted here. I'm not sure you can come back with a clear head after a month and right this. You have a lot of serious issues that you need to fix.
I think you may need a shrink here. If not, you may want to find the UK version of Gamblers Annonymous and go to a few meetings, just hear other people's stories.
I'm not saying you should never play again, but if you do, you need to start small and be in a very structured environment. Right now, your just gambling, and it's highly unhelathy the path your down.
Get right in the head, and then see if poker is right for you. There is a chance that it really isn't, and that's ok.
Good luck to you, I think your in for the fight of your life in front of you.

Bankroll/Life tilt Management. Learn em or quit forever.

I think you have all the classic symptoms of a full blown gambling addict, and I also think you KNOW you are an addict. You need to completely stop playing online poker forever and fill your life with other activities and people. If you relapse and start playing again, you will inevitably go on the same roller coaster ride to ruin all over again....

Only gambling addicts lose their entire $40K bankroll. Give up poker and get stable. Next time you get the chance to do this you wont blow it. Take a break.

"What they said." Quit any form of gambling whatsoever. Focus on studies, tell the girl you quit the game and now have a clear head to focus on your relationship. Enjoy your old life and never gamble again.

Many people go broke at one time or another. However, to lose a 40K roll you have to be playing outside your means, or playing non-stop. Take a lesson from Chris Ferguson, make a journal, keep records of every game/session you play. If you lose two SNG's or two buy ins, quit for the day. The game isn't going anywhere. If you can't quit loser, then you have a gambling addiction. As people mentioned before, it sounds like you're chasing your losses and getting yourself in more trouble.
Make a strict set of rules, post them next to your monitor/laptop and follow them to the "T." Example: I will never play for more than 10% of my roll at any time. If I go on super monkey tilt and break this rule, I will use the self-exclusion tool and take a month off.
If you can follow strict bankroll management, there's no reason you can't rebuild your roll. It will take time (months, not days) so be patient. If you find yourself re-depositing and going broke again and again, poker is not for you. If you can't quit the game, then you definitely need to seek professional help.
Best of luck to you,
-Kyner

You sound like a compulsive gambler, not a poker player.

when you said you lost your 40k roll, how much do you have set aside for everything else or is that all the money u have? I wrote a thread about how much money people keep online as their roll versus their total savings. For instance, i may have 1.5K online as my roll but have 4K saved. i know that there are probably some people who have 10k and all of it is online and when they are broke... they really are broke.
