The New UB Tourney Schedule

So the new changes are out, here are the differences in the evening schedule that I can see;

Added:

5:30pm - $44 Double Stack (3k chips)

7:00pm - $33 Double Stack (3k chips)

7:40pm - $130 Double Stack, $20k guarantee (5k chips)

8:00pm - $10 Sniper with $10k guarantee ($5 is bounty, $5 is prizepool)

9:00pm - $109 Sniper with $40k prizepool ($10 is bounty), $1 turbo rebuy with $5k guarantee

9:15pm - $15 Double Stack (3k chips)

10:00pm - $30 rebuy with $25k prizepool

11pm - $5 turbo rebuy with $10 guarantee, $30 6 seat tourney

Midnight - $60 sniper with $10k guarantee

Removed (off the the top of my head) from approx same time period

a $20 guarantee, a $12 bounty, a $5r with guarantee, the $35 $7k guarantee, the $129 bounty, the 9pm $11 bounty with $4500 guarantee, the $3r, the $109 $9k guarantee and the two $25 guaranteed boutny tourneys, one at 10:30pm other at midnight, and another $5r guarantee.

Overall I'm kinda meh about the whole thing.  You've just kind of shuffled things round, and probably taken out more than you've put in.  I mean i like UB and i've played like 1500 tourneys there, but this new schedule doesn't really do a lot for me.

-  I really like the double stacks, esp the mid stakes one but there are no guarantees on them, so what kind of fields would you get??  100-200 max imo.  Maybe the plan is to give them a couple of weeks to see what the fields are like and then whack guarantees on, but who knows.  Those first two ($30 and $40) are too early for me to play anyway so i won't be in those.  And there's only one double stack ($15) after 8pm which is when a lot of people play - doesn't make much sense to me.

- I think running millions of satellites is good, but would be nice to have option to views tourneys WITHOUT seeing the satelittes, as they take up so much space.

- the rebuys just suck.  There is not a non turbo rebuy under $30 that I can see in this evening schedule (maybe i could see better without those satelittes everywhere).  There was a $3r and two $5r tourneys (although with sucky guarantees) before these changes and now there's nothing.  What's the point of playing a rebuy to get more chips and use your skill edge if you go and make the thing a turbo with 5 minute levels??  Would've been great to see the $5r $10k be non turbo and a $10 rebuy in there as well.  What about a couple of 1 rebuy 1 add on tourneys??

- There's 2 big tourneys, the $10 and $100 sniper ones with good guarantees to obv get players in the door and i think a lot of people will like those, but beyond that there's really not too much to interest me.  I will buy in to probably both of those and anything in between - but there is nothing!!  It looks like Annie has gone, ok $40k guarantee $100 tourney and increased $30 rebuy guarantee for high stakes player, a big $10 guarantee and 2 stupid turbo rebuys for the lower buy in players and there is not much though beyond those.  Don't get me wrong, those tourneys (apart from stupid turbo rebuys) are great, but a 'schedule' is supposed to cater to a range of buy ins at a range of times, not rely on 2-3 big tourneys and not much else.  The cynical side of me thinks those big guarantees will never be met and after a few weeks they will just be dropped down.

Personnally, I will now be playing less tourneys and spending less money on the site, so not sure how great this schedule is.

Oh, and on the website the tourney schedule shows both the new AND the old schedule combined, plus is showing some tourneys twice.  It's retarded stuff like this that UB can't even get right that makes people wonder why they play there.

I don't mean to be a negative prick, but there's just not a lot there to get excited about.  Although I like Annie, I have to agree with brsavage that a high stakes live player does not appear to know what sort of schedule online tourney players want - at any stakes.

from jesterwords:

"I have patiently waited for them to bring back the $10 - $30 MTT schedule that was friendly to people who actually work and play for fun and not a living"

EXACTLY.  UB used to have great $20 and $30 tourneys w/ good guarantees.  FTP and stars have recently shown that guaranteeing $$ is the way to fill up your tourneys.  If they did some good $20 and $30 tourneys w/ good 10k+ guarantees, I guarantee I would redeposit.

a 20 or 30$ mtt with a 10K Gr. and a doublestack would be a huge success on UB, it would fulfill the Guarantee EEEEEeeasily.

The idea of a new schedule got me super excited...

Now i see they got rid of the 129 bounty, the 150, and just replaced them with a 100 dollar and a 130.  While the addition of the extra chips is nice... I need more high buy-in tournaments.

What about a 215 nightly?  Or a 150?  I need more tournaments. Instead, you took away the 109 at 11 and there's now even less tournaments on UB to play :-(

I totally agree with you Dan. There are not enough tournies worth playing in the 10-30 range. This is where I stay since it serves my bankroll. Only place I can find plenty is on full tilt. They have good token feeders to get into the $26 tournies they have running throughout the day. All of which have great guarantees. It's the best shot for my money. I continually hope UB would look at all these other examples on stars and tilt and follow what works as opposed to giving midstakes players no other choice but to look elsewhere.

When I look at the new schedule, I see all holdem all the time. They took away all of the stud and almost all the Omaha tourneys. WTF? I used to play several of the O8 tourneys per week (7:15am, and sometimes the 12:15pm and 5:15pm) now there are none to play. I guess Stars will be getting more of my action.

yeah that's how i feel too wein.

my buy ins are $20-$100, so a bit lower than yours, and when i look through that schedule there's just not that much to get excited about.

The thing about UB is that at this stage it is nowhere near able to compete with the fields that stars/tilt are getting, so they need a different angle.  In fact a lot of us that play on UB do so because we don't like wading through 1k plus fields every night to bubble a final table.  IMO the best thing for UB to do would be get a good range of tourneys across the buy ins, make some guarantees aiming to get 200-500 people in a tourney grow it up from there.  A $33 double stack with a $9-12k guarantee around 8-10pm is going to get around 300-400 ppl and have a 2.5-3k first prize.  If the $5 rebuy with $10k was non turbo it would do the same.  These are the good value tournaments that mid level players want.  The problem is that no matter WHAT they do with the schedule if the customer support continues to be retarded you're going to keep losing players so the schedule is a moot point.

Give players value for money with some nice guarantees, more chips, less turbos etc and show people that the new management can do a better job than the old fuck ups.  This is the only way to get old players back and get some new ones in the door - and to keep all of them playing!!

i think when you're a smaller site you need to focus more on the core business of tourneys, which is undoubtedly the NLHE tournaments.  UB doesn't have the customer base to be mucking around with these less played forms of the game, just do the basics, do them well and people will come.

Doesn't look like much has changed at all. A couple tournaments give you different starting stacks, but as for high stakes tournaments, I don't see any changes ...

Theres a Wednesday $215 80k.  It will be nice to play for more than a maximum of $5,400 in a tournament....seeing how I can't win on any other site.

Totally agree. The mid-level tourneys without guarantees have been useless in the past. The other pm scheduled tourneys catered to the $100 and higher or the micros in the past and I dont see how that has changed with this schedule. UB has always lacked common sense, no matter what changes are made or who has been in charge. This new schedule is a perfect example. Yeah getting Annie to consult is a good idea, but doesnt look like there was any input or consulting from the regular player's perspective. This needs alot of work!
