The New UB Tourney Schedule

So the new changes are out, here are the differences in the evening schedule that I can see;

Added:

5:30pm - $44 Double Stack (3k chips)

7:00pm - $33 Double Stack (3k chips)

7:40pm - $130 Double Stack, $20k guarantee (5k chips)

8:00pm - $10 Sniper with $10k guarantee ($5 is bounty, $5 is prizepool)

9:00pm - $109 Sniper with $40k prizepool ($10 is bounty), $1 turbo rebuy with $5k guarantee

9:15pm - $15 Double Stack (3k chips)

10:00pm - $30 rebuy with $25k prizepool

11pm - $5 turbo rebuy with $10 guarantee, $30 6 seat tourney

Midnight - $60 sniper with $10k guarantee

Removed (off the the top of my head) from approx same time period

a $20 guarantee, a $12 bounty, a $5r with guarantee, the $35 $7k guarantee, the $129 bounty, the 9pm $11 bounty with $4500 guarantee, the $3r, the $109 $9k guarantee and the two $25 guaranteed boutny tourneys, one at 10:30pm other at midnight, and another $5r guarantee.

Overall I'm kinda meh about the whole thing.  You've just kind of shuffled things round, and probably taken out more than you've put in.  I mean i like UB and i've played like 1500 tourneys there, but this new schedule doesn't really do a lot for me.

-  I really like the double stacks, esp the mid stakes one but there are no guarantees on them, so what kind of fields would you get??  100-200 max imo.  Maybe the plan is to give them a couple of weeks to see what the fields are like and then whack guarantees on, but who knows.  Those first two ($30 and $40) are too early for me to play anyway so i won't be in those.  And there's only one double stack ($15) after 8pm which is when a lot of people play - doesn't make much sense to me.

- I think running millions of satellites is good, but would be nice to have option to views tourneys WITHOUT seeing the satelittes, as they take up so much space.

- the rebuys just suck.  There is not a non turbo rebuy under $30 that I can see in this evening schedule (maybe i could see better without those satelittes everywhere).  There was a $3r and two $5r tourneys (although with sucky guarantees) before these changes and now there's nothing.  What's the point of playing a rebuy to get more chips and use your skill edge if you go and make the thing a turbo with 5 minute levels??  Would've been great to see the $5r $10k be non turbo and a $10 rebuy in there as well.  What about a couple of 1 rebuy 1 add on tourneys??

- There's 2 big tourneys, the $10 and $100 sniper ones with good guarantees to obv get players in the door and i think a lot of people will like those, but beyond that there's really not too much to interest me.  I will buy in to probably both of those and anything in between - but there is nothing!!  It looks like Annie has gone, ok $40k guarantee $100 tourney and increased $30 rebuy guarantee for high stakes player, a big $10 guarantee and 2 stupid turbo rebuys for the lower buy in players and there is not much though beyond those.  Don't get me wrong, those tourneys (apart from stupid turbo rebuys) are great, but a 'schedule' is supposed to cater to a range of buy ins at a range of times, not rely on 2-3 big tourneys and not much else.  The cynical side of me thinks those big guarantees will never be met and after a few weeks they will just be dropped down.

Personnally, I will now be playing less tourneys and spending less money on the site, so not sure how great this schedule is.

Oh, and on the website the tourney schedule shows both the new AND the old schedule combined, plus is showing some tourneys twice.  It's retarded stuff like this that UB can't even get right that makes people wonder why they play there.

I don't mean to be a negative prick, but there's just not a lot there to get excited about.  Although I like Annie, I have to agree with brsavage that a high stakes live player does not appear to know what sort of schedule online tourney players want - at any stakes.

I would hardly call going from a $20K guarantee to a $40K guarantee is a few K.  That being said if the guarantees are lowered it means I was fired.

The satellites have been being moved for a couple of days.  They will all be cleaned up by tomorrow morning (I am crossing my fingers here!)

Thats cool.

I will look at it later in the week when you have had time to tweak things.

I don't satty into things, I just buy in, I have limited time to play each night (as do many part time players).  I'll check UB in a few days and see what you've come up with after you have had time to review and adjust things.

Thanks for your time.

 Jester,

I agree 100% with your interpretation of what a mid stakes player is.... When I first started playing online poker I played almost exclusively at this level and I never ventured to another site because there were 3 - 4 mid stakes tournaments a night for me to enter right at UB.... and they weren't at midnight!

That being said, I do think that any site would be remiss in their marketing to not have some decent higher stakes mtt's nightly also... it is these tournaments and these players that add that little extra excitement to the site.

Personally, I think UB would be smart to go back to what made them so popular way back in the day, and that is to cater to the working players. I have said it a million times, UB was the only site that had a home game feel to it, and it was permeated further as such when many of us became friends in Aruba.

Call me a fool but targeting a class of people who have the discretionary income to play the mid stakes mtt's is a good idea, and at this level they will usually not go busto as often as the higher stakes players.

Chris.

we like 7-8 pm ideally and the ub tournament 8b players like turbo pot limit. i just told people at tonights 8b tourney about posting their thoughts here. they all want the tourney for sure and we wont need a guarantee. as i said this tourney will fill up nicely to 3-4k within the first week which is fine with us as it is still more than they are now at the 20 dollar level which has been the biggest current daily game. i read creeks post and he likes 5 dollar rebuy for the satelites im fine with five although id imagine on avg the rest would prefer 3 dollars rebuy bc it would hand out the same ratio seats per satelite as it does now with 1 dollar rebuy leading to 20 dollar seats (approx same ratio). the 8b communtiy at ub has been content with the 6 satelites starting at around 7 am every hour or 2 until 4 pm and with the upgrade they can start making decent money with a tournament structure they already love. im not how many people will find this forum and post that ive told but im relaying the general consensus. thanks for taking the time to work with the feedback, ub is smaller than other sites right now but maybe thats what makes our groups tight and the games more enjoyable. ps. i just reread your post before finishing to make sure i didnt leave anything out- satelites are the jelly to our nightly peanutbutter we would need at least a couple, preferably 4-6 (is 6 right now).

Honestly I hated this schedule when I first looked at it, mostly due to the lack or rebuys. But with the 7pm becoming a non-turbo that will pretty much shut me up about that. I rarely got off work in time to play the 4:30, but I loved it. That being said as a mid stakes player I see plenty of chance to satellite with some non-rebuy tournies into the nightly 40k which I'm happy about. I love rebuys, just not rebuy satellites. As long as the $30 deep stack gets a decent turn out I would assume I would play it, the $5 rebuy at 7, some satellites, and of course the $10 sniper at 8pm. Hopefully in the mean time I could get into the $100 sniper that will surely have a great overlay for a while and rack up some TD's to take some shots in the $30 rebuy. So I'm starting to come around.

I also can't wait to rail a mega short stack ultra turbo satellite. I don't see why anyone would ever play one, if you wanted to make an argument for poker not being a skill game that is one tourney that could help make that point.  But with that being said, I am sure all four windows of my computer will be filled with tournaments.  Also I am interested in seeing how the SNG sats will work? Doesn't UB have them now but no one plays them?

8) There are too many turbos in the small buy-in range.

Agreed.  I just changed the 7 pm $5 $5k guarantee to a non-turbo.  The 11pm reuby I kept a turbo because of the lateness of the hour.  In my past experience I found that players preferred turbos late at night because they didn't want to stay up forever.  If that turns out to be incorrect I will change that too.

______________

I hate turbos and I like this idea.  How long for this change to take effect?  I will make this my first tournament every night (followed by the nightly 9:30pm $2.5k Bounty for $4.30) in an effort to build a mid-stakes bankroll.

Thanks Annie!

P.S. Would I be pushing it to also request making the 7pm a deep stack?

     OH ANNIE,

Since you seem to be following this post there are a few subjects which i wish to broach. I

believe UB has a fair base of players who play $3- $20 buy in tourneys (w/guarantees). I do

(bread and butter).   I haven't really sorted through the changes, but if what i am hearing is correct,

a player who plays online because they can play 10-15 tourneys a day (in order to compensate

for variance as compared to playing  live) is losing the ability to multitable tourneys all day; and

instead will be forced to play other sites if that is what they wish to do.  Also there is a loyal PLO8

base here as was stated by peri and adding those tourneys is appreciated ;). I will check and feel

out  your new schedule before making any judgments. As i am a 5yr. loyal UB player I honestly

hope your changes will continue to allow me to meet my $$$ needs on your site.

I want to say 2 more things. If I am correct, missing from your schedule are the 6 or so times

daily 200k  3-10 seat guaranteed feeders. There are many regulars who have been, and i am sure

would like to continue, making money by playing these tourneys(getting tds then using them to

buy in to another then using them for their buy ins to other tourneys) talk about reducing variance!!!!

Which brings me to my last point.   Forever your tourneys payout structure has pissed me off.

PLEASE here me out here. (And anyone else who wishes to pipe in on this feel free) What i am

talking about is cashing in a tourney and not even winning your buy in back!!!!!  example: 105

players 20 places pay (u check).  There are 2 things i have wanted to see happen, the first is to

play (exactly) 10 % of the field (i don't care and I am quite sure many others wouldn't either if 11 or

14 players for example were paid like many live tourneys since everybody has both tables open

when it gets down to 2 tables anyway...) and pay more for cashing in the bottom places (2x?)

rather than  insulting players by paying out less or near the buy in only for cashing in the bottom

places.   And my last comment may get a little flack but i believe the top 3 heavy payouts which

have become grandfathered in are bad for poker (maybe good for tv ratings) I mean let's look at

the just concluded wpt finals here 500+ players 6th gets a little over 300k 1st gets 3.4 mil. Gimme

a break. This phenom has become standard online as well.  Let me emphasize I am not against

the top three from being well rewarded but i think these payout structures cause the $$$ to grav-

itate to the pockets of the best players and leave weaker players (the bread and butter of online

sites) to go broke and quit thereby reducing the number of little fish. I would like to recommend

introducing a new tournament concept, you can call it "Roll Builder" tourneys. these would have

the wonderful benefits of  your current 200k sats (almost) in that the payouts, though escalating,

would be extremely flat.... example  prize pool: $1300  130 players 13 paid  $10 buy in could pay:

1st: 230 2nd:190 3rd:150 4th:120 5th:90 6th -7th:80 8th-9th:70 10th-11th:60 and 12th-13th:50....

This has always made sense to me for the good of the game. I believe you would have a very big

interest in tourneys like these.  They would allow weaker players to make min. 5x buyin for

cashing  (thereby not causing them to "win or go broke" and allowing them to play more tourneys

with which the site will be paid more enrty fees) 2. would allow the players who often go very deep

to get a decent return without winning that they may reduce the effects of variance. and it still

provides a decent % return (scaling up for top 5 or so finishers). i think it would be positive all

around (unless ofcourse u are annette or pearljammer etc. and i do not think it would hurt them

all that bad either)  I am not saying to eliminate the other structure but rather to add this flatter

structure as an option which would seem to make many more players happy by allowing their

money to go further and at the same time allow midrange players to build their rolls. More players

u keep in the game the longer the game will last period!   Please consider these things along

with your tourney schedule! tyvm  creek

P.S. considering posting this flatter payout segment as a topic. please comment if u think it

would be (esp all of u 200k sat players on UB u know who u r. this is for u (sassy trees eldo cheryl

etc etc etc.)

would seem rather silly to eliminate one of the few tourneys that actually meet

or exceed the guarantee. raising guarantee seems way more logical.....;)~
