Hi my name is Ryan irl, and I play under the handle "RJules" on fulltiltpoker.com...where you can learn, chat, and play with the pros. I am somewhat of a high stakes regular, and the following incident occurred the other night while multi-tabling. I was playing 5 tables when I noticed that another hsmtt player was sitting out at my 30 rebuy table on FTP. I recognized his name and also saw that he was sitting at my Fifty Fifty table simultaneously. Thinking that I would want him to do the same, I tried to get his attention in the chat:

RJules: yo welch
s7ang folds
RJules: ryan welch
glowin20 folds
passgolfer folds
RJules: please answer
ego_E_d_G_e_ has 15 seconds left to act
ego_E_d_G_e_ raises to 300
RJules: ryanwelch
RJules: if u can read this
RJules: ur sitting out in the 30r
ryanwelch: oh fck
ryanwelch: sigh
ryanwelch: thx
RJules: maybe u will pop it now
RJules: gl
RJules: send me 25% if u scoop
ryanwelch: def

He then sat back in at our 30r table and this hand occurred:

He continued to chip up and as you can probably imagine, ryanwelch came back from 6.63 Big Blinds to win the 30r for $8,200! Very well done ryanwelch. I stayed up for about another hour after he won the tournament and awaited my transfer. It never came. I woke up in the morning and checked my pocketfives mailbox. In it was this:

gutshtallin:
Sent you 100bucks for the reminder today :) Thanks again
My reply was this:
RJules12:

I'm insulted. That is extremely weak on your part imo. If I were you I would have instantly sent the 25% we agreed upon in the chat. You're ranked in the world and everything. I guess I thought you had more class than this. Very disappointing...

He replied:

gutshtallin:

Are you joking?  You expect me to give you 25% of a tourney win? First off, im a backed player so that is impossible anyway. Secondly, i was completely under the impression that you were joking. I thought 100$ was more than gracious to give you for just typing in a chat box(i have done this on many occasions and never asked for anything in return).

Wow people are truly spoiled.....

Now I want to hear what people think of this situation. Thank you and I look forward to hearing your responses. I will be checking the thread in order to justify my thoughts about the situation.

RJules12:

Enough with the personal attacks. I had no intent of ruining the character of ryanwelch, or myself, in the creation of this thread. This is quite sad, actually. I have never created a post on this site, and I guess I see why not. As you can read in my op, I simply asked for the opinions of the community as to whether or not this was a legitimate deal. I have never come across this type of scenario, but had I been in his shoes, I would have instantly shipped the money...thus the reason for the post. I stick to my word no matter what, and had I been the one to comeback and win the tournament, he would have never needed to worry about the 25%. The ONLY reason I posted was to get some friendly feedback on a situation that was not cut and dry. However, it is apparent that the majority of the P5's community disagrees with me. That's fine. I can deal with that. Now I feel terrible if ryanwelch is actually cut from his backers. Never, never, never would I wish this upon a fellow competitor, and I hope it isn't true.

I also want it to be known that I did not create this thread in order to get the $2k. I truly thought it was an interesting scenario, and more standard than what some people feel it actually is. Good luck at the tables, he gone!

I would like to point out here that your asking a forum of people for their thoughts on a situation where you sent a few msgs to a guy then expected him to actually pay you. Then when he told you that he was not serious and that you should be happy with 100 you decided to try and drag him through the mud to try and run down his name. If you don't want people to tell you what they think don't post easy as that.

I try to say out of all this garbage that gets started on P5s but....

Rjules you are an absolute moron.  The first question is why would you ever think you are entitled to 25% of his score if he wins?  He obv thought you were jolking as that is an absolutely ridiculous number and no one would ever agree.  The guy gave you $100 for something that took you 2 seconds of effort - that you should have done without reward anyway if you were just trying to be a nice guy - and then you post this sht.  Seriously wtf is wrong with you Jules?

Pretty lame trying to call out Welch on this, he shipped you $100 for a complete air chat agreement. Change your sweatpants, they have too many boogers on them.

whats an air chat agreement.. it looks like he said Def (definately) to the 25%... i dont know either of these players.. but he shouldnt have said def if he didnt mean it..

I obv didnt get dropped. Firstly Chemist is just one of the funniest people alive. Secondly, you need to learn about a few things when it comes to swapping/backing/etc. For a deal to be a deal, both parties need to come to an agreement that is clear cut and understood by both parties. Obviously I would never in a million years agree to give you 25% of myself for typing like 2 sentences to me. The reason you got attacked in this thread is because I have so many guys on this site swinging from my nuts.  That is a character flaw that you have to deal with, and by rock's post it isnt the first time its happened.

ryanwelch WELCHING on his deal?

rjules shouldnt have asked for 25%, but saying "def" was the bigger mistake.

Wow. It is clear that they had a very loose agreement. But it is an agreement nonetheless. Niether party thought anything would come of this.....but it did because welch shipped the tourney for $8200. Now, Rjules doesn't deserve 25% for his action, but he offered, and welch CLEARLY accepted. This situation is close to once/lifetime, so I would have just paid him the 2k initially and laughed it off.

And anyone that knows RJ, knows that his intentions were not to "run welches name through the mud." Look at his post count, he clearly doesn't post here often. He's not aware of the nutriding and hatred that comes through these boards. Give the kid a break.

to seriously expect 25% in a situation like this is absurd, it is such an absurd comment in chat that I am sure ryan thought it had to be friendly banter and said def as banter back, no way he should have to pay him anything, 100 dollars is plenty generous imo
