Hi my name is Ryan irl, and I play under the handle "RJules" on fulltiltpoker.com...where you can learn, chat, and play with the pros. I am somewhat of a high stakes regular, and the following incident occurred the other night while multi-tabling. I was playing 5 tables when I noticed that another hsmtt player was sitting out at my 30 rebuy table on FTP. I recognized his name and also saw that he was sitting at my Fifty Fifty table simultaneously. Thinking that I would want him to do the same, I tried to get his attention in the chat:

He then sat back in at our 30r table and this hand occurred:

He continued to chip up and as you can probably imagine, ryanwelch came back from 6.63 Big Blinds to win the 30r for $8,200! Very well done ryanwelch. I stayed up for about another hour after he won the tournament and awaited my transfer. It never came. I woke up in the morning and checked my pocketfives mailbox. In it was this:

I'm insulted. That is extremely weak on your part imo. If I were you I would have instantly sent the 25% we agreed upon in the chat. You're ranked in the world and everything. I guess I thought you had more class than this. Very disappointing...

Are you joking? You expect me to give you 25% of a tourney win? First off, im a backed player so that is impossible anyway. Secondly, i was completely under the impression that you were joking. I thought 100$ was more than gracious to give you for just typing in a chat box(i have done this on many occasions and never asked for anything in return).
Wow people are truly spoiled.....
Now I want to hear what people think of this situation. Thank you and I look forward to hearing your responses. I will be checking the thread in order to justify my thoughts about the situation.

To all the ppl saying they would have just instantly paid up the 2k and moved on, you're all fuckign retarded and I highly doubt anyone would pay up 2k for some random saying like 3 sentences, ESPECIALLY if you are backed.
Kinda funny too how on Sunday night in the PS 500 rjules was railing and trying to talk shit to me, croll103, and Ryan, but now he's just Mr. Integrity over here and deserves to be shipped 2k. LOL! Be glad you got $100 bc I wouldn't have sent you shit besides a thank you.

edit: and to all the clowns trying to get technical about how saying "def" is a binding agreement, then I'd start arguing that "scoop" doesn't really even mean anything. Or maybe it just means you owe him 25% of the pot you scooped for the Q3 > AQ. So I guess you should go ahead and ship him like 1350 tournament chips as a thank you?

I'm sure you couldve sent nothing or the whole payment and it wouldve been better off, $100 doesnt even pay for the tournament you two were in. I wouldnt have probably paid the full amount but I'd atleast throw 1k his way.
Its obv Rjules doesnt really care about the money, he does very well on his own. Its the fact of how the whole scenario played out.
a. He warns you about sitting out.
b. He throws it out there you give 25% if you ship which looked impossible anyway.
c. You agree
d. You ship MTT
e. You then ship him $100 (lol)
f. He starts thread and questions scenario
g. People call RJules bad names.
I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW YOU PEOPLE VIEW 3 LETTERS AS ME AGREEING TO SOME LUDICROUS OFFER. I say "def" to dozens of things all the time, and it is not the same as me saying "yes i agree that i will ship you 25% if i win" (which would never ever happen)

Dont know any of these guys.
Dont have a clear opinion on the deal or no deal.
But could you guys stop talking about 25% being ridiculously high.
How about we think about equity like poker players for a minute.
With 1500 chips, his total equity in that tourney might be maybe 100$ or 200$.
His winning equity at the time of the "def" might be worth around 10$.
25% of that amount really seems like a ridiculously high price to you ?
That fact that he won make it look like a big amount.
results oriented anyone ?

All I'm trying to get my head around is how someone can be backed and also have a stable....everything else in this thread is just silly.
As for the topic at hand, I fault all parties fwiw. Rjules for daring to ask for something while "trying to be a stand up guy", and Ryan for typing "def". I would never type def there as a joke, but i would type it there as a semi joke..meaning..i know i only have 5 or 6bb left with high blinds and i have about a snowballs chance in hell of winning this thing, so sure i'll send you 25% of a mtt that i won't win... I can't say what was in Ryan's head when he typed it, but thats what would have been in mine. Personally, I would have typed nothing or lol...
Then when i actually ship...i would have been like fuk...i can't believe the miracle that happened, and i would've shipped...mostly cuz i would have stoked but at the same time i would have cussed myself out for replying to rjules. With that said...I'm not Ryan so i can't assume what his thought process at the time was...and as he stated, he would never take the request seriously (and it was a pretty rid request) so Ryan doesn't need to ship...he was joking so you should be happy that he sent the 100 bux and if you win anything with it, you should ship him 25% imo.
FWIW, I've told people that they were sitting out many times, and I've even waited for players in the past who I knew as stand up guys while HU, and I would never expect anything in return. You do it for the integrity of the game, and your own integrity...because you would want those guys to do the same for u. To do this for any other reason is just rid imo. end thread.

i dont know by saying "def" that you can 100% say thats an agreement. "Def" can be used in a VERY sarcastic tone especially when everyone on here knows that 25% is rediculous and OBV looks like a joke too. Sorry but $100 is way more than he deserved.

disclaimer: i only read OP. but...
dont see how ryan doesnt owe rjules 2k. doesnt even seem close to me.
edit: if it was a joke i think 0 makes much more sense than 100 dollars.

as absurd of a demand as it is, it looks like a clear deal to me. i'd pay the 2k without much thought. then again, i really wouldn't expect money from anyone. the sending 100 is weird to me, i think it should be 0 or 2,000. i guess its just considered in good gesture. regardless, i've met both guys irl and are really nice, cool guys so any "douchebag" comments either way seems completely unnecessary, but clearly the fan favorite here is ryanwelch. i'm 100% positive if roles were reversed the majority of you would be saying to send the money, so all of this blind agreement and attacking rjules is ridiculous.
