Hi my name is Ryan irl, and I play under the handle "RJules" on fulltiltpoker.com...where you can learn, chat, and play with the pros. I am somewhat of a high stakes regular, and the following incident occurred the other night while multi-tabling. I was playing 5 tables when I noticed that another hsmtt player was sitting out at my 30 rebuy table on FTP. I recognized his name and also saw that he was sitting at my Fifty Fifty table simultaneously. Thinking that I would want him to do the same, I tried to get his attention in the chat:

RJules: yo welch
s7ang folds
RJules: ryan welch
glowin20 folds
passgolfer folds
RJules: please answer
ego_E_d_G_e_ has 15 seconds left to act
ego_E_d_G_e_ raises to 300
RJules: ryanwelch
RJules: if u can read this
RJules: ur sitting out in the 30r
ryanwelch: oh fck
ryanwelch: sigh
ryanwelch: thx
RJules: maybe u will pop it now
RJules: gl
RJules: send me 25% if u scoop
ryanwelch: def

He then sat back in at our 30r table and this hand occurred:

Full Tilt Poker Game #15150051858: $25,000 Guarantee (Rebuy) (110928593), Table 15 - 120/240 Ante 25 - No Limit Hold'em - 22:52:26 ET - 2009/10/05

He continued to chip up and as you can probably imagine, ryanwelch came back from 6.63 Big Blinds to win the 30r for $8,200! Very well done ryanwelch. I stayed up for about another hour after he won the tournament and awaited my transfer. It never came. I woke up in the morning and checked my pocketfives mailbox. In it was this:

gutshtallin:
Sent you 100bucks for the reminder today :) Thanks again
My reply was this:
RJules12:

I'm insulted. That is extremely weak on your part imo. If I were you I would have instantly sent the 25% we agreed upon in the chat. You're ranked in the world and everything. I guess I thought you had more class than this. Very disappointing...

He replied:

gutshtallin:

Are you joking?  You expect me to give you 25% of a tourney win? First off, im a backed player so that is impossible anyway. Secondly, i was completely under the impression that you were joking. I thought 100$ was more than gracious to give you for just typing in a chat box(i have done this on many occasions and never asked for anything in return).

Wow people are truly spoiled.....

Now I want to hear what people think of this situation. Thank you and I look forward to hearing your responses. I will be checking the thread in order to justify my thoughts about the situation.

I am also wondering why you decided to copy and paste this hand at the time it happened? Just decided to randomly copy his first double up?

No noob the fact that this HSMTTer is fucking cheering for a 3!!! LOL really!?!?

the chances that either of them thought the other was serious when the "agreement" was made is 0. like someone said earlier, its like ur buddy asking if he could nail that 10, and you say def.

and im gonna have to say there is also 0 percent chance if the roles were reversed:

a. welch would wake up and have 2k in his account
b. you wuold end up giving him the entire 25% eventually
c. he would ask you for the full 25%/make a thread about it

i always thought u were just kidding about the 1500, and just didn't want to tell me what u had, but its obv clear now you just are that big of a douche to expect one of your HH's to be that valuable, and try and make a quick dollar any way you can, no matter how gay you look. congrats on officially becoming maven jr.

seriously, grow up you fuckin infant

100% sure he was joking when he told you $1500 for the hh. Also 100% sure that this thread has 0 to do with $ and 100 % to do with principles. The kids up 150k in the last 2 months, doubt he cares. This situation is kinda like if you bought a lottery ticket and your friend said "ya man, let me get 100k when you win it." And you said "sure man, DEF." Just because you never expect to actually win. Kinda sucks when you gotta pay up eh?

my last post..i dont want ur money. Secondly, its my fault for not watching EXACTLY WHAT I SAY AND ALL POSSIBLE INTERPRETATIONS. So for that rjules, i apologize. I would never blatantly "welch" on any bet..LOL.

Best of luck everyone at the tables.

The fact that you admit you made an error by saying something you did not  necessarily mean defines how you are blatantly screwing him. He made no mistake in asking for 25%(may have even been a joke, who knows)...  but rather you made a mistake by responding that way without knowledge of whether or not it would be taken seriously by the recipient of said banter(RJules). You said you even sent him 100$ because you felt guilty. Why would you feel guilty if you honestly felt that the lines of communication had been perfectly clear that you were not going to pay him even if you won? You know you made an error(as you admitted above), and so you should man up, pay out, and move on.
For you to ASSUME that someone you don't know would know that you were joking is your real error here. Now that you know RJules took it very literally... you should feel esp. inclined to send him the money. It's one of those live and learn situations. Hopefully you'll know better next time and save the joking around for your buddies.

To me this is the type of thing that if u say it to some random person, then you truely have no intention on giving them such a rediculous amount of money, you just say it because it seems so improbable.  However if you say it to one of ur good personal friends, only then should you have to pay off the whole 25%.

Even tho he said what he said, its absurd to send some stranger that kind of money.

I can repost the edit without that part if you'd like. I'm pretty sure my point is the same regardless.  DEF a cute dodge tho.

Feeling guilty and sendin 100bucks as a nice gesture for a heads up are two completely different things.

Here's my pm in response to your HH request:
RJules12:

$1,444 clean and i'll send you the HH on here

RJ

Where did the $1,500 come from??? Looks like $1,444 clean? But I could be wrong. Also, I have actually seen you irl...and you are the one who actually looks like an overgrown fetus. You still want the HH? $1,444 clean and it's all yours.
