UB superuser scandal

I know this post could have gone in many other threads, but I want to make sure that people see it.  In most situations I wouldn't do this, but I have inside information on this situation and people should know about it.

Okay, so as you all know there is significant evidence that there were superusers on Ultimate Bet as well as Absolute Poker.  The evidence comes from around the same time period as the AP cheating.

I've spoken with the guy who is, basically, leading the investigation at UB.  I guarantee that he is working on it.  I am 100% confident that it is a priority in his mind.  For many reasons, he's more upset about the whole thing than anyone else that I've met or talked to.  While I can't tell you a lot of what he's told me, I can tell you that UB is not ignoring it internally.  In fact, the delay in resolution is not at UB itself.  They've done a very thorough investigation and they're committing some very significant resources to make sure that it never happens again at AP or UB.  More information about UB/AP's steps will be made more public over the next few weeks and months.

I reallllllly want to tell the whole story as I know it, but I can't.  In fact, telling the whole story as I know it could jeopardize the whole outcome of this situation.  Once the facts are revealed, people will understand why I can't say what's going on right now.  You'll just have to trust me on that.

Okay, now that I've said what I can say, I also want to say this:  If I were you, I probably wouldn't play at UB or AP right now either.  I can perfectly understand the frustration on the part of the players in a situation such as this and I think it's perfectly reasonable to boycott the site until you're satisfied the site is safe.  In fact, if you believe that a company that allows (not necessarily intentionally so much as ignorantly) cheating to go on at some point is unable to ever clean itself up, then you should never play at either site ever again.  Make no mistake about it -- there was blatant cheating on both AP and UB in 2007 and if the players never spoke up, nothing would have ever gotten refunded or fixed.  That's obviously inexcusable and it's up to AP/UB to show that it has made things right and that it will be clean going forward.

So, to wrap things up, I believe in the current management at AP/UB.  I think they want to do the right things.  However, they're still cleaning up an enormous mess left by previous management/ownership.  I assure you're they want this whole scandal resolved fairly even more than the most outspoken P5ers.  Although it may be too much to ask, give them some more time to get everything in order -- imo, there's a good but unfortunate reason for why they've taken so long.  However, for the time being, I completely understand anyone who wants to cash out from both sites and take a wait-and-see approach.  It's exactly what I would do.

-Nat

wow  Some hopeful news about UB.  I really look forward to the rest of this story and there couldn't be a more credible person to make this post than NAT

Seriously?  I have the utmost respect for you Nat but this is an ABSOLUTE line of BS.  If you dont work directly for UB, then what are the implications of you making your priviledged information public knowledge so that others can try to understand the situation, coarse of action for UB/AP to take in order to prevent repeat occurences in the future, etc.  What has happened with UB/AP is exactly what Politicians are going to use as ammunition to destroy online gaming and its crap.

No offense taken.  I understand anyone who takes your viewpoint.  I have no incentive to get people to play on AB or UB again... I really don't care if it happens or not.

However, I am personally of the opinion that new management can clean up what was previously a poorly run company.  Therefore, I believe that one day, it may be reasonable to deposit and play on AP and UB once again.  Have they convinced the poker community of that at this point?  No, not even close.  They have a long way to go before I would say it's a good idea to play there.

Thanks Nat. I was thinking about UB but this confirms my worries... not a chance you will see me playing there until truth comes out...Why take a chance on sites that have these issues? I'm not.

Because what I am posting right now could have implications for when and how much people get paid back.

Saying that right there is probably more than what I should say, but I hope that clears things up as much as possible.

My primary hope here is that the cheated players will be treated as fairly as possible in the end (obviously the treatment thus far has been awful).

This shit will never end as long as there as that much money at stake and basically no one with any real oversite to stop it.. It wont stop..  They will find other ways to steal money.. Its just facts guys.. And who knows the people on all sites that havent been caught yet.

If you turned the clock back just say 2 years ago and you made a post saying that either A. This player is a bot or B.  This guy can see my hole cards  or C..  This guy has more than one account going..     Every response would be along the lines of  put your tinfoil at on your a moron etc etc etc..  Well fast forward to today and look at what has happened.. Bots on FTP well they stopped that right? (not really there still playing)   Multiaccounting.. (LOL cant really stop that) then now superusers.. Well the caught Potripper so that wont happen again right its only an isolated incident.. Well now there is another one. nionio..  And im sure there are others out there.. Some who are smarter..

I think NAT is trying to help.. But then again why even mention anything.. Why would this investigator tell you anything?    If you cant tell us anything why even mention it? Whats the big deal?

This is Nat on Adam's account... (I left my pw manager USB stick at my apt)

The reason I mentioned it is because I wanted to let people know that UB is not ignoring the situation internally.  And also to let people know that I think it's going to be resolved soon and that UB/AP might actually turn themselves around.

On another note, I agree with you that cheating will always be a part of poker.  It will never end.  If you can't stand the possibility of ever being cheated, then you should really stop playing (live and online) now.  On the other hand, if you just resign yourself to the fact that cheating will happen sometimes and that sites will do their best to prevent it and make things right, then I think you're taking a more rational viewpoint.  The caveat there is that only some sites fall into that category.  Therefore, stick to those sites until shown otherwise.
