What would you advise a brand new player to do first?

A friend of mine just signed up a new account and is brand new to poker.  What reading material would you suggest first for him? 


When I started Phil Gordons books were great for establishing an ABC game and getting odds and hand values down.   I'm obv gonna get him set up here for advise as well.

Phil Hellmuth might be off his rocker now but his book, play poker like the pros I believe its called was a great starter book for me. Teaches the basic starting hands you need to play and just an all around good base to go from.

I have my own rakeback site, so I have him hooked up there.  Would Phil Gordon's little green book be alright these days to get the basics down?  Or am I sending him on a path of nitty losing...
