Why would any poker player root against ivey?

Obviously most people myself included are rooting for ivey but seen a few not including people rooting for shulman. Pure and simply ivey winning would be the next biggest thing if not bigger than moneymaker when it comes to benfitting the game for numerous reasons.

1. Solidifies the game as a game a skill hands down - best player in world wins biggest event - yes making final table is huge also to begin with in proving it but the win stamps it. This type of win is ultimate proof and argument that can be used to fight the govt and all the clueless lawmakers.

2. The win will likely bring a new boom into the game because of all the publicity it will get in and out of the poker world. This will be positive which is needed after many of negative stories on tv.

3. Can anyone think of a better ambassador to the game going forward, especially of those at the final table. Last thing that is neeedd is shulman. Questions is would he really toss the bracelet.

Im sure there are many other reasons but these are mine - feel free to add

i dont think if ivey wins the main event, that everyone who thinks poker isn't a skill game hands down will automatically be converted to believing that it is. we have to keep in mind here the last how many years the main event has been won by an amatuer? i highly doubt a well known pro winning the main event is going to change the lawmakers and governments mind about poker. but that's just like ya know, my opinion man.

Its a reverse Moneymaker effect... Look him being deep already solidifies the game as a game of skill, poker would be better off having Darvin Moon win, so all the average joes in the world realize they still have a chance at this game.

I want Ivey to win b/c he's the best player and obv deserves it, but I don't think him winning will bring more dead money into the game then a random winning would.

The Moneymaker Effect was because an everyman beat (people who were hyped up as being) world class pros.  Saying "hey the best player in the world won all the money" doesn't draw people into the game as much as "hey a plumber won a $10 sat and beat the best player in the world and so can you".

I think what I want and what would be better for online poker are opposites.

I want Ivey to grind out everybody and run over the table. But I realize the downside to the greatest poker player in the world winning this tournament. And that is not a that there will not be a large influx of new fish like moneymaker effect.

Butttt maybe we can have best of both. For example, Ivey runs over table and amasses a big stack. Moon hangs on to his massive stack. and we have a heads up battle between BEST PLAYER IN WORLD and MR AVG DOWN TO EARTH GUY. All we need is one EPIC hand for Moon to go broke on and we may have the argument that the greatest player in the world won so obv a game of skill. But also Mr avg down to earth guy played very well and won LOTTSSS of millions. Theend
