you'd have plenty of money in that time.  there'd be sponsors lining up to make you look like a NASCAR.  I think you'd survive...

how many players would it take to strike (not play the main event) for us to really fuck over harrahs or espn?

if they had 1,000 less players than expected, would it hurt their bottom line?

did they address the money theyre going to make on interest?  sitting on $15+mil for 4 months... are they adding this to the prize pool for the FT?

EDIT:  if they put the interest into the FT prize pool would everyone object as much?  this could be $200Kish, depending on the rate.

I know the added money doesn't change many of the objection points (colluding, coaching, untimely death, etc)... but would it soften the blow?

I cant believe all of the top pros support this idea. This is a terrible idea for so many reasons.

1. If you wanna see a live FT so bad pay for the webcast.
2. If you are a P5 member or have an internet connection and know anything about poker youll find out who won before the broadcast anyway.
3. The WSOPME is supposed to be a 7-day grind/luck/donkament. Not a 6 day on-117 off-1 on.
4. All of the nerves that go along with going right into the FT will be gone by then.
5. Im sorry if this is CONSPIRACY THEORY, but whats to stop two amatuer nobodies from colluding and setting up a plan and taking 4 months to execute(OBV soft play, chip dumps, take a dive and ill give you X amount of money).  I sadly but honestly think this can happen because as noble as some people are, you have ALOT of dishonest scumbags still left in the Poker world.
6. FUCK the sponsorship ideas too. Yes they televise the event and give publicity, but if you want the major deals and make the big bucks, how about oh i dunno WIN THE DAMN TOURNAMENT. PS and FTP probably are sending the majority anyway, so 75 percent of the FT is already represented. The rest can be scooped up in the buffet line at lunch b4 the FT starts. I mean for god sakes PS gave Ray Rahme a deal
Sorry for the long post....Cliff notes-bad idea, conspiracy theory, collusion, prob paid chan and Daniel to say they like it JK.

AngryDo the words "A Shitload of CASH" mean anything?

They are turning what used to be the premiere tournament in the world into some circus sideshow so that they can rake in more of the almighty dollar. I don't like the idea,  because it could afford someone a better chance of winning due to coaching, tape study, sponsorship rewards (which may ease a finnacial burden & would change the way they play).

Let them play Poker the way it should be played and the way it has been played.

This is a pretty atrocious idea, terrible players will be buying subscriptions to poker sites, refining their game online and working on their game so much between July and November.  It is incredibly unfair that 3 months later you could be playing a totally different player.  Advice I'd give to some standard calling station donk who lucked his way to the FT.

-- Don't be afraid of going out early, rather try and build chips for the win.

-- Resteal from people, there are very few hands they can call a re-raise with, put them to the test.

-- Watch every video on every major training site, take notes and try to emulate how the pros play.

-- quit your day job and just start grinding tournaments online, if in 3 months you can become a winning online player, you should be well prepared for the WSOP ME FT.

I bet if someone did the above, and now has a ton of FT experience from online they will be a totally different player, completely unfair.

^^ good question.  What about currency fluctuations as well.  You're now forced to keep your winnings in dollars for 4 months?  Just being picky but seriously there are so many flaws with this idea.

I imagine any player at the final table that considers themselves a noob would invest serious time and money in becoming a better player - fair?

you play from 6000 down to 9, and then pause the tourney for 4 months??? Considering that this is life changing money for 99% of the people playing....we're now forced to wait months for that life changing money?  I just dont get it.  Maybe if they paused it for a week or 2 I'd understand but 4 months is FU$%ING RETARDED.

This will be my first year in the WSOP and I am very dissapointed about this decision.

This is by far the most asslurpfuckingly retarded idea I've ever heard.

And I work with lawyers, so that's saying something.

For the most part this is a terrible idea but don't forget ESPN coverage of the Moneymaker WSOP win was one of the main contributors to the poker boom.  ESPN can help poker players by  generating buzz and interest about poker.  Can't they do the same thing though and not wait all the way till november?

I'm sure that not ALL of the top pros support this.  The small handful who dominate the game know that if they make the final table, they can kill it any goddamn way you slice it.  If I had chips in front of me right now, I'd bet that a significant number of top pros are just as pissed as we are, the just obv weren't quoted in the article.

What happens if you die?  Does that constitute an automatic 9th place finish?  Or are you able to select alternates?  Ok alternate #2 your in.....get in there son

You are actually have a good idea here.  IF they insist on going thru with the crazy plan then each player should designate a SECRET alternate.  Kind of like George HB Bush picking Dan Quayle.  They will have to pick several alternates in case people choose the same person.  This would at least provide some help for the players personal safety.

Why not just build in a week delay to hype it up.  If a week is good enough for the superbowl then why the hell does the WSOP need 4 months.  That is just goofy.  --J
