There is no union of sorts for casino dealers, although several people have tried, or are trying, to get certain things going. Dave Cicalese, for one, is a good friend of mine that's been in 'the biz' for much longer than I was, that is working on some sort of representation. I've dealt for the WSOP since the ME in 05, and was a supervisor last year. Luckily, I've gotten out of it altogether..but that's not the point.
Each year, Harrah's has done more and more to increase their internal pockets, while going out of their way to stick it to the dealers, and sadly, there's not much you actually CAN do. For every dealer there is actually working, there are 100 more waiting for a spot. Even though there is no way in hell for the ME or any circuit event to have a chance in hell of being put on without dealers, thus making one think that dealers are an integral factor, the fact is - they are treated like crap and that won't change. There was almost a walkout in 06, the day of the seniors/ladies event, and the ONLY reason that the threat worked, is b/c it was a spur of the moment threat, 45 minutes before that day started.
As for delaying the FT for 3 months, personally, I think that is ridiculous on so many levels, but the fact is, if that's what Harrah's decides to do, there's not a gotdang thing the dealers can do about it except boycott working the event altogether, and like I said, there's 100 people waiting for every 1 that is already in.
I won't even go into the stealing/cheating that goes on by the higher ups (making up dealers to collect their final shares/witholding money (from shockingly enough, the dealer pool) for 'just in case' incidences that never occur etc etc.
I'm getting offtrack (and on tilt again for even being reminded of my past 3 yrs....)
