Here's a reply from Senator Feinstein
By Austinsdc on 05-02-2008 3:01 PM

Dear Mrs. xxxxx:

Thank you for contacting me regarding Internet gambling. I appreciate you taking the time to contact me on this important topic and I welcome the opportunity to respond.

There is no doubt that the Internet and related technologies have had a remarkable effect on the U.S. economy in recent years. The flow of commerce on the Internet has enhanced American industry's ability to distribute goods economically and efficiently. The continuing development of this industry in California has provided hundreds of thousands of new, well-paying jobs, and I am committed to strengthening online commerce and preserving and expanding this vital job base.

While the advent of the Internet has been beneficial to American society, I believe the same cannot be said for Internet-based gambling. Internet gambling has become too easily accessible to minors, subject to fraud and criminal misuse, and too easily used as a tool to evade State gambling laws.

I understand your thoughts on internet gambling, and as you may be aware, I have supported legislation aimed at curbing Internet gambling during my tenure in the Senate. For example, I supported the SAFE Port Act, passed into law as Public Law 109-347, which included (as Title VIII) the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006.

Please know that I have read your letter with interest and value your thoughts. Additionally, I appreciate hearing your concerns that such restrictions are vague for poker players, and your support for legislation to exempt online poker from the Act. While we do not necessarily agree on this particular topic, be assured that I will certainly keep your thoughts in mind should this issue come before me during the 110th Congress.

Again, thank you for your letter. I hop you will continue to keep me informed on issues of importance to you. Best regards.

Sincerely yours,

Dianne Feinstein
        United States Senator         BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

That must be a canned response.  I got the same exact response from an Illinois Senator.

Thanks for posting these and for e-mailing your Congressmen in the first place. The more we e-mail, the more our voices will be heard, regardless of whether those on the other end agree with us.

It's really important in your original e-mail to Congressmen to say that you're a registered voter in their district/state (depending upon if you're e-mailing a Rep or Senator). Congressmen pay attention to money and votes. You can at least affect half of those by e-mailing.

Well said, Dan.  Poker players sent more than 25,000 letters to Congress through the PPA site last month!  Congress pays attention to this.

If we all get our friends and families on board, we can repeat this in May.

Diane Feinstein has always been a suppressor of individual freedom.

She would regulate the air you breath and try to tax it if she could.  She wants to protect animals at the expense of human life so why not take away internet gambling too.

I say FK her!!!  It's PROHIBITION.  Regulate it, tax it, impose safe guards and stay away from banning individual freedoms.  What a bitch!!!  Some people feel they can impose their moral values on society.

But yes.  Thank you for posting the response.  At least you have a definate answer on where she stands.

I have (and so have many) noticed a recurring theme in letter responses from Senator’s and House Representatives who oppose Internet Wagering, Internet gambling has become too easily accessible to minors and it violates state laws. This, when these letters are received needs to be addressed in an immediate reply, both by e-mail and printed and mailed. I received the same initial response from one of my Senator’s and my Congressional representative citing this same uninformed reply. Now, how to counter this is simple and easy. 1.     Point out (if your state is one) that skill games violate no state law. Cite the code. This can be found at
http://www.gambling-law-us.com/State-Law-Summary/

  1.  Point out how America Online, MSN, YAHOO and others on their games site allow children to play WHILE on the same page as children’s games, skill based competitions / cash competitions are offered as well and card games and THEY seem to have no problem preventing minors from playing real gambling / wagering games.

  2.  Pont out even in free play .net sites the minimum age is 18 and great care is taken to prevent minors from playing as opposed to the children’s games marketed next to adult games for cash. By the above referenced ISP’S. Provide the relevant link in e-mail, PRINT the page and attach to mailed responses.

  3. Show who is really marketing gambling to children; Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Walgreen’s and others.
    EXAMPLES FROM THESE ONLINE STORES:
    Wal-Mart Poker Chips:
    http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&search_query=poker+chips&ic=48_0
Click anyone of these sets, the suggested age range stats at 8.
Walgreen’s:
http://www.walgreens.com/store/productlist.jsp?CATID=302398
Age suggested starts at 10
K-Mart
http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_1010000001547064P?keyword=poker+chips&sLevel=0
NO Minimum age listed
So, who is REALLY marketing to children, NOT licensed poker sites that offer skill based games to adults that do not violate your state law anymore than does AOL, YAHOO, MSN and others.
These companies are though offering wagering on skill games right next to adult games and there is NO outrage or even efforts to stop THIS activity.
Department stores are selling wagering games to children and there is no outrage here nor efforts to curb this.

When taking my (your) thoughts into consideration, please consider this accurate information rather than the inaccurate information you have been provided and led to believe to be accurate.
