So I became a member of the PPA...

what I'm wondering now is how can I get in contact with other folks in Illinois who are actively working to change the ridiculous law we have in IL making a playing poker a crime.  The state forum on the PPA site is pretty lame with the newest posting coming six months ago.

It seems as if IL has some of the most restrictive laws going.  This tilts me so hard and I'd like to get involved more actively if possible.

Can I call you TVG for short? Stick out tongue

TVG, you are right about the lame action on the PPA Illinois forums. But that doesnt mean you have to play along. I suggest first contacting our PPA grassroots organizer Drew Losefski (if TE doesnt beat me to it, I will post his email tomorrow as I dont have it on the computer I am using right now). Drew can fill you in as to what is or is not currently in the works in Il.

If little is in the works, you can start the ball rolling. The PPA can direct emails to its Illinois members with central contact information. Once direct contacts are made, a petition drive can be started. We can discuss this more if you are really interested, but my suggestion is to start with a petition simply calling for a "home game" exception to the poker law. Who can seriously object to a law that makes it clearly legal for folks to play poker with their friends around their kitchen table if they choose? I can help you draft the specific wording of such a petition if you need it.

WIth your effort, the help of others, and the tools the PPA can make available to you, hopefully a positive change can be made. And once the first change is made, the second is easier, and the third easier still....
