50NL...weird preflop spot with AK in the SB

Pretty much why I hate AK so much...all the options seem to kind of suck

No history with BadtheBeater, I believe this is his first hand at the table.

I've played with jfocus for a while...I haven't seem him get out of line yet, pretty standard TAG...but I believe he is capable of making a move with slightly sub-premium cards if he thinks BadtheBeater is weak, which is possible given the size of Bad's raise.

My image is LAG, although BadtheBeater wouldn't have any concept of how I play

Folding is obviously incredibly nitty in this spot but calling sucks and 4betting seems too much like I'm turning the hand into a bluff...sigh hate this hand.

Anyways, thoughts?

OK so its limp/limp & Bad raises 5.5x (3 + 2 for the limpers + a taste for show) - that looks standard - he says he has a hand. jfocus  then repops it ~3.64*Bad's bet - that doesn't look out of line for a reraise but it's kind of poor bet sizing due to the stack sizes. He's ends up close to commited as Bad's push would be offering a 40 call into a 60+ pot, getting paid to be a 3:2 dog but what a sick spot - he has to call off if he thinks he is racing NICE tourny play but utter sickness for a cash game.

In jfocus's spot I would have raised a bit more to say I'm commited and give an easy call on a push or a bit less to induce a push or give an easy fold. I really hate giving myself hard choices when I can so easily avoid it.

Now your spot. jfocus looks to be commited, and Bad is still in the hand so you have to count it that FE isn't a real factor. One or both of them will play and both have 50 so just take that if you play you'll be going to the river with 50 in. That at least make your choice of action easy - raise to 50 or fold :)

That said I think fold is the correct play and here's why:

This is a cash game & you have nice stack & loads of time to find good spots, the blinds won't come eat you alive. Yea AK is a premium hand and sometimes you'll get called all in by AQ or less but not enough. Given the action, if you play you are going to showdown with more than 1/3 of your stack in as a small dog maybe as a big dog. You can find better spots.

If it looked like you could have some FE to a push I would say raise because the FE would offest being on the short end of the race. I just think jfocus is commited here.

my 2 cents

Oh.. Well keep it simple then.  With all that action in front of you and playing out of position.. Your never gonna make enough money to justify making the call here I dont think Unless you flop QJT.

Yeah in retrospect seems like a fold, maybe even an easy one but sigh.

Fink, you didn't talk about 4betting whats your rationale for ruling it out?

I think he did - any 4 bet would commit you to the pot given the stack sizes if I'm not mistaken.

Not sure what you think is bad about Badthebeater's raise preflop that would make jfocus think he's weak.

I fold with no reads / stats and next to nothing invested.....might be a bit nitty but meh.

Are people forgetting this is a 6-Max table?  Shorthanded I'm jamming this to try and induce some silly calls with hands like AQ here (which can certainly be in the villains' range).  I don't think we are up against by KK or AA nearly enough to release this hand.  Full table would be a bit closer of a decision, but I still think this is jam sammich.

Yep any 4 bet would commit you & given the action I think jfocus is commited. If you are ready to race off more than 1/3 of your stack you can move in. This is a cash game and you can find better spots so just fold.

 such an easy fold.

flatting here is out of the question for obvious reasons stated above by fink.

yes, this is a 6 max table but you have absolutly no reads on badthebeater and you are facing a standard 3 bet from a TAG in position.  if he is any sort of thinking tag he probably isn't doing this with the mid-bottom of his 3 bet range to somebody who just sat down.  if you want to embrace variance, shove but dont be suprised if you are 85% of the time racing against QQ/KK if you get called.  find a better spot or wait till you have reads.  sure, AQ is a possibilty but i would almost always count that out of a TAG's range in this particular spot if you jam and get called.

Ive played maybe 20 hands of 6 Max Cash in my life. So Maybe your right. Shoving I guess isnt horrendous..  But ive noticed in general FTP cash players especially at 50NL are nittier than the standard cash players.  I dont use HUD.. So in general in this spot with no reads I would fold pretty easily.. I would look for other info. Like maybe if any of the villans have an Iron Man Medal or something.     I dont know about 6 max but in general most players dont 3 and 4 bet light at 50NL.. They are much more exploitable post flop.

When you are this deep why invest 20ish BB with a hand that may be crushed anyway.AA and KK are definatly in his range so its a fold for sure.

I just spent a couple of weeks watching videos on StoxPoker.  Seems to me most of the instructors would have shoved and worried later about AA or KK.  "Deep stacks" are exactly the reason you want to get your chips in with AK, right??

depends on way too many aspects of the game to give yes or no.
