Donk or right play?

hey all its me again. thanks for reading

this came up in a cash game the other night and i wanted your opinions about if my play was right or wrong based on the situation.

2-4 NL Holdem Cash Game

UTG folds

tight player calls $4

villain raises to $18

chip leader calls $18

I'm on the button and look down at As-6s. I've already blown through $500 and was on my second buyin. the villain was raising pretty much every pot he entered and is usually the hyper agressive one at the table at these games. i decide to call the $18

folded back round to the tight guy who calls.

FLOP: Ks-8h-5s

tight guy checks

villain bets $32

chip leader, myself and tight player all call (at this stage Im sure the tight player has top pair with a decent kicker, maybe even 2 pair, the chip leader was probably on something like middle pair or a smaller flush draw and he was pretty content to hang around in multi-way pots throughout the session, the villain I thought had maybe a middle pocket pair or a king and a weak kicker)

TURN: Jh

tight guy bets $50 (seemed like a tester bet with top pair or something)

villain bets $230 (just under pot size)

chip leader thinks for a while and folds

I re-raise to $460 (If i shoved I was afraid that it would look weak and that he would be more willing to call me and i figured a min raise would seem "enticing" like i was trapping him. figured that if he folded I'd take down a decent sized pot and even if he called I had a couple of outs to make the nuts)

tight guy takes a long time and decides to fold

villain goes into the tank for a couple of minutes then decides to call

chip leader folds

RIVER: 8s

villain checks

I shove my last $180

he calls with Kd-Qs and I rake the pot for just about $1350

if i played this like a donk be honest! i really appreciate all constructive comments, would also like to know how you would have played in this situation and what hand ranges you would have put the others on.

I think you're more experienced in the game than I am but here we go. I think your play would be fine in a heads up pot but multi-way flush draws are harder. Especially with the tight player sticking around he might have been slow playing a set, but I wouldn't worry as long as it works out all right in the end it shouldnt be a problem. You got paid off and you still realised you made some mistakes, Suited aces always get me trouble sometimes I might even fold on the turn depending on my mood for that day

Maybe it was a bit like a donk. If I'm in a drawing type hand I want two or three others in it with me. I think the only thing I maybe would have done a bit different was a AI on the turn.

The reason that I would have done it this way is to either end the hand or force all the chips in before I do hit.

This is a cash game not a tourney and the the idea is to make the most money not gather chips.

I don't play this high so maybe there are some advanced concepts that I do not know about that are going on.

First, I think you can fold your suited ace-rag preflop. I don't hate a call here though in position against an overaggressive player in a multiway pot.

On the flop, your villain bets out for about 1/2 pot. Fortunately for you, the bet is small and the call from the chipleader gives you somewhat decent odds to catch a card. If the chipleader folds, you could raise here on the flop with a semibluff and either take it down or get a free river. But, with the other call (and with the tight player still to act), just calling is fine.

So, up until now, you've played a little donkish, but not terribly bad.

The turn is where you totally blow it. Our aggressive player may be crazy preflop and he might take an aggressive stab at the pot on the flop, but he really isn't going to commit another $230 here without some kind of a hand. His range does include KK, JJ, 88, 55, AK, KQ, KJ. At this point, our villain is pretty much pot committed. He'd have to be a moron to bet $230 into a multiway pot without some kind of a hand. He has to AT LEAST have a K with a decent kicker and very well could have KJ.

So, you essentially put into play $640 (160 big blinds) with very little fold equity and either 9 outs or 12 outs if your ace is good. This puts you at about 20-25% equity in the hand.

What was your plan if you blanked the river and he checks to you again? Are you jamming there?

Anyway, I think you can very easily fold the turn. The dude just made a serious bet into a big pot and you're just holding a draw.
