Omaha hilo hand six handed 05.1
By Lafaena on 05-13-2008 7:11 PM

This is Omaha hilo hand i played a while ago

Im in the big blind with the 10 c 9 c Ad 6h

The small blind is a loose donk playing any four preflop and draws to any draw for any price on the flop etc. Hes also seems too be overvaluing hes hands if he makes them(like low end of straights, sets on bad boards, bad lows, etc). If he makes hes bad draw, hes not folding. One thing ive also noticed is that this player would allways bet the pot when strong, usually pretty fast like hes pressing the bet pot button. No bluff, straight forward callingstation in other words.

One player limps from middle position and villian completes i check

Flop is Qc Jc 7d

giving me an OESD and flushdraw.Only a backdoor low so the best high hand is likley too scoop at a showdown.  Villian checks and i bet the pot of 3 bucks. Maybe i should be checking here as the limper coulda have three jacks or queens, but he folds so i guess he had some lowcards. The villian, however instacalls and i put him on some kind of draw(hed be calling with an openender or wrap here)

Turn 5 c

Now he leads out and insta pot bets at me. I call putting him on a flush altough im clueless as too how high. Feel like he would bet any flush there and i can beat all but two of them. I do also have a bad emergency low draw now.

River 5h pairing the board

He insta bets the pot again(12 bucks), i fold thinking he has to have the nutflush. Hes a donkey but i didnt think he would be dumb enough to bet anything i could beat at that point when the board paired like that. I was wrong as he showed me his cards, the a seven high flush. I think he didnt notice that the board paired or something.

comments are very welcome

I have played over a million o8 cash hands to build my roll so i feel somewhat competent to answer this. These are exactly the players u look to make money off.u shoulda went with your read and and got it all in on turn.Like i said i've played a lot over the past years so i recognize the regulars who know how to play and i would have folded king high flush here on the turn to 1 of them.It is funny how when a new guy comes to play its like blood in the water.Game selection is 1 of the most important things and these are the overaggro atms u look for.

I would have done the same thing.  Although your read was correct, you have no idea how high his flush is.  Even though he's a bad player, calling station, etc., this does not mean that you have him beat.  For all you know he could have had a set of fives on the turn.  Don't agonize too much over this hand.  Next time you will have the nuts and extract a lot of money out of him.  Make a note on his play and look for him at the Omaha tables.

^^^if u only play the nuts u are transparent and easily exploitable.i agree it is a tough decision on the river ..thats why i woulda made up my mind to go with it on the turn.if your playing within your bankroll it shouldn't hurt dropping a buy in going with your gut.

He did go with his gut--that's why he folded.  Besides, who plays the nuts only?  Yes, you certainly would be transparent and easily readable if you did, I agree.  Sometimes you have to take chances.  On this particular hand, the poster didn't and I wouldn't either.  There are just too many hands where you'd be beat, even if the donk was the worst player ever.  Bravo for you if you would.

I'm just saying you gotta get his money before every1 else. And in this pot u have him isolated on the turn with a strong hand.

I disagree Mc, I play a lot of plo8, some good some bad.  But this is not the hand he wants to take someones roll with.  10 high flush with that board is not a strong hand regardless of who is making the bet.  Fold and wait for a better spot.  You played the hand fine.

Well i guess i am in the minority but once i lose respect for a players game i have a hard time giving them credit.Until they prove otherwise

i was calling the river for sure, but then the board paired and i got cold feet. His instabet pot bet on the end felt like the nut flush there. Felt like he would atleast think a bit without a big flush of a fullhouse, but i guess he didnt put me on anything. Raising the turn is probably the strongest play here, minraising for info perhaps and valuebetting river. folding would be rather easy, if he where  to come over the top of my minraise on the turn. If called my min raise a small valuebet would probably be the way to go, although i would only do that against complete stations.

Nope, no mistake, you've got a diamond on the flop.
