That's a play that I can't make. Even if I think I'm ahead I probably would lay it down, but I'm no where near the level of player you are. I would like to hear what your thoughts were. You obviously felt you were ahead. I'm usually the "find a reason to fold" guy.

That's a slick play actually. You can't scream "I have you beat" any
louder than throwing your case chips into the pot like that. If awwnutz
donest' make that move he may have to show down a losing hand and he'll
be in rough shape with only about 8 rounds of chips left in his stack.
with a bigger stack it woudl be a really crazy move, but with the stack
that awwwnutz had it's a nice move.

I didn't even look at the current blind levels, I saw you had approx. 1600 in chips and thought it was very early since you usually have many, many more. I would have went all in pre-flop, which probably wouldnt have gotten any calls. Do you think it's more correct to play as you did and try to get at least 1 call at the expense of getting out ran by soemone with AJ or to push, as I would have done, and maybe only pick up the blinds?

It depends on where you are in the tournament really. You're way of
doing htings would cut down variance some if you think no one would
call, but his way increases variance and gives him a shot at winning a
bigger pot. I wouldn't push right off the bat, because you will only be
called by a big hand and you want some chumps in there with ya. If you
get raised preflop then pushing is certainly an option.

Thanks for the reply, I'd also like to hear what you think of my play in the thread a couple spots down. Don't remember the title. "Do you ever do this" or something like that.

I almost always bet on the flop in this situation, anybody else?
You took control PF with the 4x bb raise, everyone could certainly think you had AK/AQ right? then if you get raised, easy fold
and if mrlittlehead had the Ace, why didn't he bet the flop?
TheDean had 77/88?
mrlittlehead had... TT/KQ?

The problem with pushing all in is that he's already in not-so-great chip position with only 16x the big blind. Hands like AA, KK, QQ don't come around that often, and you certainly want to get some chips when you have them. You don't have the chips to win a lot of hands postflop or bully the table, so you really need to take a chance to try and win a decent sized pot when you get that big pair.

I make this play every time too. After your raise, your basically representing Ace/King or Ace/Ace. Having Q/Q to back you up is nice as well.

no, I think he played this hand correctly. You need confirmation,
if they check the flop, it could be because they hit a set/ or an A and
want to see where they are/ slowplaying. Depends on the
player... Then on the turn, if it checks around again, your hand
is probably good as is, and you'll happily check down a river and have
Q's hold. Nutz checks, the guy tries to make a posistion steal
after two checks around and I think it's unlikely he had an A and Nutz
was either good as is, or he laid down a weak A. Well played.

Yea, I liked the play. It seems like an A should have bet the flop, and if Nutz gets called he has outs to a nut hand on the river. That seems like a good time to make a move to me. On a side note, I have been catching some bluffs lately where the player(s) are all-in it's pretty sweet when u call it -- after reading it as a move.

oh is it ever... not to get off topic but I'll tell you one I had
recently. playing a step 5 ($1000 tournament) which is pretty
sizeable compared to my bankroll, stepped up to it from the $200.
So anyways, I have like 900 chips blinds 50/100 I bet 250 edit: (I forgot to say my hand... :/ pocket 9's), the small
blind calls my bet and has like 450 left on top. Flop comes JT2
and he immediately pushes. I think about it, figure that he
thought he wouldn't be able to push me out of the pot pre-flop so he'd
just push the flop regardless. I call he had 3's. I ended
up losing anyways when my K's got 2 outered on the river by 4's but
what can you do...

After the flat calls pre-flops and then the check around on the flop, the only player I was worried about was TheDean. I felt pretty confident that the button guy did not have the A. I don't think there is any scenario where he should check it based on the board draw possibilities. The turn card was a very nice card for me. When the button made his 600 bet, I felt it was a feeler bet. When the EP folded, I felt like I was good.
BTW, the only hands that I "made a move" on would have been weak aces or KK. I was probably good the whole time, so the "play" may not have been that great. I was very satisfied with the "read", though. Obviously, my chip stack was a little on the puny side which always makes these tough all-in plays easier - it's not like I was giving up great tournament position.
I think my play ended up being the "perfect" play because I collected an additional 600 on a hand that everyone would have folded in deference to the A on the board.

I hope ur joking. I dont think any decent player would consider folding this hand once its checked around on the flop and then thedean checks the turn. Maybe im mistaken though. I normally bet there on the turn, but if I have a read that the guy with position will likely make a steal bet if I check to him, then I don't mind checking there. So, easy call with all those checks on flop and thedeans on the turn, but good read to check the turn to let the guy acting last take a stab (since apparently you thought he would do that right? otherwise the turn check clearly cant be right)
