So I was playing a little SnG on party poker today and had a big chip lead when this hand occured.
I had K Q on the small blind with two limpers in front of me.
The flop came A Q 5. So I flopped middle pair, nut flush draw.
I make a pot size feeler bet. The big blind calls, and the other limper folds.
I suspect he might have the J or 10 of .
The turn is a blank. I decide I'm going to make a bet small enough to give a flush draw the right odds to call. So I bet a third of the size of the pot. He calls. The river is the 7.
NOW THE POINT: Do I check it to him and let him try to make a bluff or do I bet out and hope to get a call with the nuts?
If I bet out, I can only hope to value bet the pot and he's either going to call, fold (i don't suspect he'd raise here with the T or J high flush). He can't possibly call if he isn't holding a spade.
If I check, he could make a bigger stab then my value bet by trying to buy his way out of trouble, or check it back.
Which is the correct option?

Good discussion..
I like the underbet because it sets you up for later hands. For example if you underbet the nut flush and get called, you will show down the nuts. Then later, if you are in a hand where you are not sure where you stand you may be able to induce a fold with the same sort of weak bet. Of course this only works if the rest of the table is paying attention.. in a $5 SnG I would go all in, because there's a good chance the J will call...

This is true, and should be known as the Daniel Negreanu set up for that reason. But is it a profit maximizing technique?

I like tbe check here and trying to let him bluff because lets look at
the situation. You have a big lead in this sit-n-go...therefore,
why would you bet against a short stack and give him a chance to fold,
when you could check here, giving him the chance to bluff off most or
all of his stack into the chip leader and eliminate a player and put
yourself in a better position to win the tourny. Personally, I know
people disagree with this play but I feel as if there is no value to
betting the river here, as if you check and he checks you have
accomplished the same thing as leadins and him folding. By
checking you give him the chance to make a mistake and capitalize on
it. He could have been on the Q high spade draw when he was
calling down, which leads me to believe that if you check the river
when the 4th spade hits, he may think that you had top pair and would
not pay off the obvious spade catch on the river. Plus, he knows
that you are the chip leader and that you aren't going to pay off a
made flush without a spade in your hand in which case, if he has the Q
of spades, he believes that there is only one card that is beating him
and he might not you on that hand. Really, you have to check here
because the pot is big enough at the river that he is justified in
moving in on you or making a big bet if he thinks that you will lay the
hand down.
My conclusion: check the hand and give him a chance to
bluff. There is much more value in picking up chips and putting
yourself in position to win the tourny with this play.

This was pretty much my thinking when I was playing the hand. My rule of thumb at that moment was, "l'll let them run into me head first", instead of looking like the biggest bully there was. But by not looking like the bully, how can you induce action?
