Possible Repost - Can I watch SCOOP from US? I wanted to watch a little SCOOP and realized that from the .net side, you can't see any of the real money action (or at least that's what it appears). Are US residents not even allowed to watch' Posted in: Poker Sites |

oh boy not this again...DOJ is onto merge, article link inside [Yeeeaaa, Reporter's privilege . . . that's the ticket. Guess I should have read Noah's post before spouting off] You have an interesting point and I don't know if the Gov't would have the ability to subpoena the name of the informant. I practice employment law now, so I don't know this type of constitutional law stuff, except for what I learned in law school. However, I seem to recall that there is a protection for protecting commercial speech and the media in particular regarding their informants. A famous example would be the Watergate conspiracy where an informant named Deepthroat ... Posted in: Poker Sites |

oh boy not this again...DOJ is onto merge, article link inside I used to work for a federal court judge and there were certainly times where high profile criminals were brought into court under seal and we weren't permitted to discuss, outside of chambers, the existence of the case at all. No one sequestered me during the pendency of the seal; I was free to hang out with friends, nothing physically prevented me from spilling the beans on the details of the case. However, if I was caught disclosing the information, I would have destroyed my career and faced federal criminal charges. I'm sure the DOJ has many young attorneys or interns who play poker ... Live 2/4 Facing 3rd Barrel on River I'm pretty sure that gjallen is right about making some move on the flop or the turn. The only thing I disagree with is that these moves on the flop or turn are done "to find out where you are in the hand." I think purely informational betting or raising is pretty bad, but often a bet or raise for value or as a bluff also serves to help define the villain's hand range. In this case, I really thought this guy was likely to have AQ+ and I tank folded the river. However, before mucking, I told him I'd bet him $100 that I had the best hand until the river. He said there was no way I folded ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Live 2/4 Facing 3rd Barrel on River We are playing with lots of $1 chips and $5 chips. Also, these guys are all internet players who have become accustomed to the smaller raises. So about 2/3s of the players here, will just make it two $5 chips for an open and then play 4 $5 chips for a 3bet; I'm not saying that's std in most live games, but it really is in this game. I am one of the guys that normally throws in 2 $5 chips, so I kept it std. These are all competent players, so no one really is calling all that light. This is not a casino, but rather a home game where I know all of the players (except this guy who was an ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Playing on Carbon while in Missouri and other states I am a resident of a state that is permitted on Carbon's site. However, I am staying in St. Louis, MO for the next week and I'm wondering if I can sign on to Carbon without risking my account. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I would like to grind some cash. Posted in: Poker Sites |

Live 2/4 Facing 3rd Barrel on River Flawed as it may be, I was not check/calling without a plan. I was check calling, because it was a very draw heavy board and I don't want to get 3bet off the best hand and I did not believe I would get value from any worse hands. I didn't put him on AJ, I actually think he's much more likely to have AQ and I don't want him to get smart and make a lay down. I honestly think that if any mistake in this hand was made, it was not making some raise or bet on the turn. I could certainly be wrong, but I definitely think the check/call on that flop is certainly fine. You say I need to lead or ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

$215 Merge HR FT - shove for value? The fact that the BB is the big stack should result in a stronger range for UTG+2, so I wonder whether we see more than 30% here. Against top 30% we are a slight dog. I probably do an impatient flip here. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Live 2/4 Facing 3rd Barrel on River What aces are played like this that we are beating' I think ATs (but not cc, because I'm sure that AcXc is betting turn), so you have ATdd, AThh and I doubt those hands 3 barrel. What jacks are really taking that line on the flop, turn & river (I'd imagine any J except QJ would either Bet/Check/Bet or Bet/Check/Check that board and QJ doing only the former)' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Live 2/4 Facing 3rd Barrel on River 2/4 NL 6 Handed hero - ~ 725 Villain - ~ 500 I'm UTG w/AKo and I make it 10 (std is usually 10-14, so its just on the low side for this game), Villain utg+1 calls (he's a friend of a reg who I just met, so no reads), button calls. Preflop, I think Villain's range is ATs+, AQo+(maybe AJo), 66-TT (maybe JJ), T9s+ (maybe 89s+) Flop comes As4sJc and I have Ks, I check and villain bets 30, button folds, I call. Villain's range is nearly always his aces when he bets here, imo, but I may be completely wrong (please help with this read if you disagree), so I think check/calling is fine b/c ... dealer etiquite? I regularly play at the Harrah's in Kansas City. One day I was playing in a pot where many of the bigger denomination chips had been pushed underneath the majority of the pot. I asked the dealer if he would spread the pot out so that I could count the chips and he informed me that he could not touch the pot further. He stated that he could, however, restate all the action on each street and I could do the math in my head. I went ahead and counted the pot myself based on recalling the action, but I thought that was really odd and asked him after the hand why he could tell me all that info, ... Posted in: Live Poker |

Live 1/2 NL Question It was Harrah's. J9, I completely agree that sticking around is the right thing to do, but I have always been very strickt with my BR management, but I've been forced to play above my roll since Black Friday. I was playing .25/.50 online with a roll of $1.8k. I now have a BR of ~$2k and I had already busted my first buyin on a ridiculous suck out vs. utg before. I was still playing good and I don't generally tilt, but I knew I would not be comfortable shipping another buyin into a pot, so I knew I had to leave. It really sucks that I can't afford to even play in these incredibly soft ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Live 1/2 NL Question Thanks, just wanted to make sure I wasn't losing it, I go from playing 5k hands a week to averaging 10. I was being results oriented, because I call and utg calls and they both chop it up holding 47. It just kinda made me sick because I am not rolled for 1/2, but its the lowest game in town. I am just really disappointed, because the way I play, 10 buyins is never enough and I'll probably go broke before internet poker comes back. Sigh . . . I really miss pstars. Live 1/2 NL Question Relevant Players: UTG = Loose/Passive playing virtually ATC from any position for a limp and calls nearly all raises. Hot streak = ~ $750 UTG+1 = Old guy. He hasn't been at the table that long, but I'm assuming he's fairly tight. ~$215 Me in BB = I'm playing TAG, but I don't expect anyone to really notice at this point. ~$250 UTG limps, UTG+1 limps, EMP limps, cutoff limps, Button limps, and I am in BB with 88. Online, I would normally just check and raise about 1/3, but live, I'm raising 2/3 and checking 1/3 (I don't know if that adjustment makes sense, but I've noticed I'm ... Carbon Poker best route for U.S players? Tyvm Posted in: Poker Sites |

Carbon Poker best route for U.S players? Signed up and funded this weekend. Play is really soft, but I'm not exactly sure why. You would think that most of the US players who can't play anywhere else would be in there, but it appears it is mostly fish at the micro and low stakes. The sad part is that their nightly $5 freezout last night had less than 120 runners. I seriously couldn't believe it but their biggest turnout yesterday was under 700 players in a single tourney (yea, I know it was Easter, but that is terrible). The other thing I didn't like is the look of the tables and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to ... Posted in: Poker Sites |

Game Selection Advice Needed - $50nl FR v. $50nl HU? ty for the response. I was kind of leaning toward FR vs. HU, but I've just won so much more money playing HU, so I wasn't sure. As I mentioned, I'm really not that great at HU, but if I avoid the regs, I'm usually very +EV over my opponents. I just haven't learned the proper 3betting ranges and 3bet calling/4betting ranges, so there have been times where I'll play someone that is better than me and I'm pretty much clueless as to how to exploit them. Its a pretty frustrating feeling, but I still get some enjoyment out of playing against stronger opponents and trying to figure out what they are ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Game Selection Advice Needed - $50nl FR v. $50nl HU? Admittedly, I haven't likely played enough hands at any of these levels to really know my true winrate, but I still need to make a decision based on this limited information to decide where I want to spend my next 10k hands or so. I just moved up from $25nl FR, so here's the breakdown: $25nl FR - 4.76 PT BB/100 (5,000 hands) $50nl FR - 1.53 PT BB/100 (5,000 hands) $50nl HU - 4.33 PT BB/100 (12,000 hands) I think I've run a little under EV in $50nl FR and a bit more above at $25nl, but I may be completely incorrect about good numbers for these stats. Here are my considerations for my ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Help out a fish plz I agree that check/calling is not the best play in this case. I think you lead for 2/3 pot for value and to give him the opportunity to define his hand on the flop. If he raises, I think you are going to call and then check/call the turn (if an ace or ten comes, I say you should check/call and then pot sized lead any river). If he calls, then I think lead into the turn for 2/3 again. Not to be results oriented, but if he has a hand like AK or AQ, he isn't going to get that much money in and you aren't going to get rivered (that is bad logic, because you have to love it when he spazzes out on ... Recent Changes In MTT Strategy I have been playing mostly cash for the past 8 months or so and decided to put in a few MTT sessions in the past few days. I noticed a lot of changes in the games and tried to employ some counter-strategies that may have some solid rationale. I'd love to hear other player's opinions regarding these changes and hear about other recent changes in the game and appropriate counter-strategies to deal with these changes. The recreational players have known for some time that 10bb stacks should be shoving, but it seems that now they are adding in 15bb resteals. On the whole, there are many more ... Playing Below My Roll Yea, I work, but haven't been making too much of a secondary income in poker lately. Had my first losing year in 2010 since 2004 (I had it coming). I switched to cash midway last year when my second child was born due to time constraints, so I'm still learning cash (btw, I still love tourneys, but I think switching to primarily cash was a very good life choice for me). I'm not as good as the solid regs at $50nl, but I have a pretty good eye for identifying the fish and the regs who probably see me as a random for the most part. I know I should be playing $50NL and definitely know its my ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Playing Below My Roll I'm rolled to play $50NL and I believe I am a winning player at that stake. While I'm in the game, I have a fairly healthy disregard for the chips in play. However, whenever I have a losing session where I lose 2+ buyins, I'll be very disappointed and have to take a couple days off. I've been playing long enough to know that going down two buyins is absolutely going to happen and is completely normal, however, I can't help but feeling terrible about losing $100. Knowing that I'm properly rolled for $50NL, I do not worry about my BR, but I still put it in terms of real things, where as no ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

New UB cheating/scandal discovered If the terms say they are held in trust, then no, you can't touch the money even if you are able to cover cashouts. That's the point of being held in trust. I haven't looked at the terms, so I don't know how the money is held. It seems to me though, that since they aren't regulated, they could have put whatever they wanted in the terms. I think it would be a nightmare to have to hold all the money in trust and it certainly does seem like a huge waste of buying power to have that much money lying dormant. Btw, I hold money in trust for my clients and my trust is an interest bearing trust. Due ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |
