Re:If we legalize online poker ....
I'd also assume that any US based site would also be required to do backup withholding, if you had a large cashout, just like the casinos do now. I'd also assume they would be required to reporting large winnings on 1099-G to the IRS.

Re:Are we supposed to claim rakeback in our taxes?
I don't think it would be taxable but you would have to reduce your total rake deduction by the amount of the rakeback or rebate.

I can't believe people were idiots enough to eliminate any future competition for the casino owners.

Re:What's the concensus on displaying your VIP status?
Makes about as much sense as bringing $4500 to a .04/.08 limit stud table, which I saw this morning.

Re:Resources for poker, taxes, and paying them?
As an Enrolled Agent that formerly owned an H&R block franchise I'm offended with your comments. I earned the same rights to represent my clients that you did as a CPA, and my work was back by a financial guarantee. Don't paint with a broad brush or I can relate tales of CPA incometence and even criminal liability for their work.

Re:What do I tell my bank when....
Tell them to either deposit the check or there is another bank down the street. I've never had a bank question checks, now my brother's rather large cash deposits from "retail sales" are another thing entirely.

Re:In My Eye
Didn't know it was a voting thing, but I'm pretty sure it has about as much effect on your play as I do. Sure wish my biggest worry was where I was ranked, if I had half your talent. As you say 35 wins, 50K on Sunday and you bitch about a poll.

Re:poker suicide
Stupid is different from criminal, which is what playing on money you don't have is, check kiting, I think it's called. However you've been a criminal since you were 13 by you own admission and your parents obviously have no concept of proper child rearing since they did not stop you or get you the proper help, it's clear that you'll be a lifelong degenerate gambler.

Re:Tax deductions
Unless you make some bigger scores just pay the tax, if you have a profit on a schedule C as a 'proffesional" you have to add self employment tax, which negates some of the other tax savings.

Actually this would be a perfect opportunity for the PPA or a "professional gambler association" to undertake.

Re:Playing online poker can cost you your job! must read 100% true
Since when will any PD do anything about "rumors"' I've enough trouble getting them to act when there are witnesses involved. I'd get an attorney involved ASAP, particularly if they threatened her job.

Re:Funniest Theory's You've Heard About Online Poker
I've just about come to the same conclusion. In every deal there is a "River" hand. For every in position AA\KK dealt, there is at least one trash hand that if taken to the river, against all poker logic, will get made on the river. So you gotta know there is a good chance the dork holding trash IS about make a one outer on the river, on top of the fact you could just be getting outplayed.

Re:Are we profitable?
I hope to be profitable. A recreational player, I've been carefully trying to get a five dollar Pokerstars freebie, into a workable starting bankroll of at least fifty. I find the article and strategy archives very useful.
