Re:Attention: Looking for Answers The game is tough and getting tougher. In order to survive, you have to do the same. Having 7 books in your poker library is really not preparation these days where you could easily have 40. You have to realize that poker is competitive. The players that work the hardest, study the most, and enjoy what they do the most are the ones getting the luckiest. Kind of amazing how that works. As far as your statistics go, you have to be honest with yourself. When did you put all of the money in with AA' Was it preflop - a true bad beat to lose to 33. Or was is after a J73 flop' In that spot, you ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Do I shove here with AT From strictly a poker equity perspective, I don't shove here. Richtegi has too many chips and he could have a real hand that AT doesn't fare well against. If he knows Richmond is a calling station, his raise means that he is perfectly fine with Richmond calling. I don't think that was a big enough raise to ward off the calling station. Position also indicates a little more strength. All of the other information that you can add to the equation makes it all much closer. It all comes down to richtigei and what you think he is capable of. Is he going to raise light' Is he going to ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:WTF Spot ITM in 750k Guarantee with Kings postflop I think this is a pretty easy call. My guess would be TT-QQ because the evidence that he's a good player rules out other hands have a ten in them. This line could possibly be a set, as well, because there is some benefit to trying to get the money in before the board scares off his customer. All in all, post-flop poker skill is really overrated at this stage of a tourney. If you fold here, you'll be way worse off in the long run. Saddle up those Kowboys and ride em to the house. Re:Discuss this tournament dynamic... I shipped it here without a lot of thought because I had reraised him 3 times and because he might think he can make me fold some pretty good hands because of the short stacks. But, in the past couple of days, I began to contemplate whether the situation of the two short stacks gives me enough information to significantly change his range for his 4-bet. Or, should I have been cognizant of the tourney dynamic and just flat called preflop in order to minimize the chance of playing a big pot against the chip leader when I had 3x the other two stacks. To win a tournament you have to get heads ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:1st hand of wednesday 200K.. is this ever a fold? I keep scrolling back up the screen and re-reading the hand. Tough spot. This is still PokerStars and a lot of bad players can buy in for $300. Only a pretty nasty draw out has you beat. I tend to really discount back door flushes and gutter ball straights and will take my beat like a man. I probably call there. It's online poker.... 300 bucks.... I don't mind the small bet on the flop because everyone is so aggressive these days. With the call in the middle, a lot of players in position would raise really good drawing hands to build a sweet pot. I would think AdJd or KsQs are the ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Quick Question I would say $10,000 in winnings; $500 in buyins - if you are filing a schedule C... Otherwise - yeah winnings of 10k on front page of 1040, $500 in losses on Schedule A... This all off top of my head, but I think it's right. Schedule C is a MUCH better way to file - deduct travel, meals, buyins, books, videos, etc., etc... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): such a tough spot real deep in million last night The AK shove gets its value from fold equity. You have ZERO fold equity here. Even worse, BOTH players HAVE to call. You are probably sharing outs and one of them probably has a pair. Easy fold. You'll have equity in the low 30%'s, so a shove is not really a bad play. I believe getting this deep is an appropriate occasion to minimize your variance and look for a better spot. N job in the tourney.. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Vegas hotel for a vegas newbie I'll throw in my 2 cents. I go to Vegas at least 6 times per year. Bellagio, Mirage, and Caesars seem to have the more serious poker players. I usually travel with a low stakes buddy or my wife. Next time we go we were going to stay at Planet Hollywood or Venetian. Harrah's wasn't a bad stay and has a great location. The Flaming O - I hated it... Imperial Palace - I hate it... Mirage and Treasure Island are OK, but the poker action is not that great. I like staying at Bally's during a Bellagio tournament buddy trip. If my wife is with me, we stay at the Bellagio or Caesars. Otherwise, ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Interesting hand from Full Tilt 1K EDIT: Now with complete HH I think this is an interesting hand the way Dyz played it. You have two options really: The way it was played is probably the best way to get the most chips IF you have Villian beat AND IF he decides to bluff AND IF he doesn't catch up. However, playing this way leads to basically playing BLIND. It doesn't matter what the Villian bets on the river, you pretty much have to call because waiting till the river to bet is such a weird line for the villian to take. I'm one of those non-math players that think other influences are at play during a tournament. I would bet on the flop for the sole ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): An Example of when to fold AA preflop.....?!? Sattelite Experts opinion please. I don't think this one is that tough because the blinds are 400/800 and you are 16/20. If the blinds were smaller or if you were even 14/20, you might think about it. One of the biggest factors for me would be the size of the short stacks - can they make people fold''' - will they be forced allin soon by the BB' Since I know the value of one of the 3 stacks smaller than you, you've got to play this hand. If you were on the button, I think you can give more consideration to folding because you have some cheap looks coming. I like the play, you were supposed to be the hero - taking down the ... Re(2): Any successful poker players ever lose passion for the game and just quit? SCT, Welcome to the club. In 2005 and 2006, I was all about online poker. I juggled my life furiously to find time for it. In 2007, I just drifted away into other things - work, kids, and getting back to a balanced life. It took me almost a full 15 months of distraction to actually get back to where I am now. Really ready to play and study poker again. This time around, I know that I only want to play a few times a week. I am going to be happy with my evaluation of my poker game, not worrying about the recognition that I enjoyed a couple of years ago. Hopefully, you have the resources to ...
