Where'd you get your screen name? A lot of the screen names on this site are fairly obvious, like brsavage, NSXT2, and SamENole. I find myself wondering sometimes where other people get their screen names though such as elfleader, soupie, and steely. So if anyone has a good story or an explanation of where their name came from, I think it'd be interesting to hear. It might even keep me from falling asleep at work. My name, as some of you may already know, is the name of the Abbe who befriended Edmund Dantes while imprisoned at Chateau D'If in "The Count of Monte Cristo". Posted in: Off Topic |

Re(1): Good guess, huh... What was your first thought when he pushed all-in on the river' It looked to me like he was slowplaying AQ and wanted to make sure he got more chips in on the river. His river bet would have put you below 2k in chips whereas if you fold you still have 3100 ish. I would've called the river all-in too, probably because I was steamed though, not because I actually thought i had a chance. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Tripped on Trips I agree with Tibby, at least in lower buy-in tournies, players won't raise with small pairs in early position typically. They try to limp in, see if they can get their set, then check raise a lot. However if you raise in late position pre-flop, they'll typically go all in for some reason. My advice would be to always raise pre-flop if there are limpers and just be wary of the low flops 8 and below. Hopefully you won't get your set over top-two scenario very often, because I don't know how to get away from it. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): What do you guys think? I have a couple questions for you if you have time. 1) What do you do if say kold limps behind you and when you raise pill folds but kold goes in for 42% of your stack. Do you still fold or do you play it with the mindset that if you happen to lose you still have the chips to play your way back into it' 2) Do you remember any of the hands that helped you build your stack up so quickly' I'm curious because it seems to me the only way I'm able to build a sizeable stack early is by taking chances and hitting draws and such. Did you just get really good hands early on or hit some flops when you ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Anybody like this one? I didn't even look at the current blind levels, I saw you had approx. 1600 in chips and thought it was very early since you usually have many, many more. I would have went all in pre-flop, which probably wouldnt have gotten any calls. Do you think it's more correct to play as you did and try to get at least 1 call at the expense of getting out ran by soemone with AJ or to push, as I would have done, and maybe only pick up the blinds' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Anybody like this one? That's a play that I can't make. Even if I think I'm ahead I probably would lay it down, but I'm no where near the level of player you are. I would like to hear what your thoughts were. You obviously felt you were ahead. I'm usually the "find a reason to fold" guy. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Does anyone else ever do this? Early in a small buy-in tourney, maybe first or second rotation. I know the limp utg was a poor play. That said, early in tournies that have small starting chip stack, 1k or less, I like to build a stack quickly to get rid of the feeling of "being behind" until I can get a playable hand. So when this hand came up I knew I was a little behind, but I was willing to take the chance. Does anyone else take this chance or was it just a terrible play. Re(1): Bodog Q Start with 1k chips and blinds aren't terrible but aren't great either. It does seem to be pretty easy to double up early if you're willing to gamble but everyone else gambles too so you risk going out early. I'd say their tourney structures are middle of the road with UB and Stars being good and Pacific being poor. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Stupid plays that lose tournies. I don't post much on here but I had an idea a few days ago, and reading Gator_Nutz post made up my mind to go ahead and create this topic. It might not get much of a response, but I thought it was a good idea so here goes. We read a lot about good plays, great laydowns and perfect bluffs that put you in position to win, and while it takes many good plays to win, it only takes one stupid play to lose. So I'm asking anyone who makes a bonehead play to knock them out of a tourney when they know it's the wrong thing to do to post their hand history from said hand and explain why they knew it was ... Re(1): Reached my second of 4 goals today for NL ring games. I'd like to hear about it also. BTW if you like reading about other peoples success to give you something to strive for go to and read his blogs. He makes most of his from playing sng's, but i thought it was interesting to get a little inside info from a very successful sng player. It's always nice to hear about other players having success and reading on how they do it. Posted in: Poker Discussion |
