9th Circuit: California Gay Marriage Ban Unconstitutional There's been proof that such behavior exists in animals other than humans. This may not prove that it's not a choice for humans but I would think it has to make one likely to believe that it's not a choice, no' Posted in: Off Topic |

Back to the future help needed ITT. the scene obv happened as everybody said unless he's trying to argue some technicality. either a) that it was in a sequel or b) when they stopped bif from getting the comic book, he was no longer his rich 1985 self, i.e. that 1985 with the black family living there "never happened". but yea, obv you're right Posted in: Off Topic |

**Official Survivor: South Pacific (Season 23) Thread** so cochran could've gone 1 of 2 ways. this is basically what i see as the consequences of those decisions. vote with upolu - become 7th person in 7 person alliance, allegedly obtain "promises" of final 4 alliances (which I can't imagine anybody would have faith in at this point), piss off 5 Savaii members that i think will all be on the jury (we're at that point if you think it'll be a 9 man jury with final 3), avoid rock pulling vote with savaii - a little more complex, he has to do the rock pulling, he doesn't piss off Savaii members (although they might already be annoyed in him for ... **Official Survivor: South Pacific (Season 23) Thread** I think you mean Keith+Whitney. I don't see them as being super powerful at this point. Sure, a pair is a great thing to have and they are still in the main alliance. But it seemed like they were at the core of the Ozzy/Elyse/Jim/Whitney/Keith alliance. Ozzy even trusted Keith enough to confide in him that he found the idol. But now they've switched to another 5 person alliance where I no longer see them as the core. I think Jim is the core now. Jim could easily align with Cochran/Dawn to become a powerful 3 person group (I'd imagine Jim would be more likely to see with Cochran/Dawn ... Posted in: Off Topic |

**Official Survivor: South Pacific (Season 23) Thread** I definitely agree that Elyse doesn't provide some huge strength in immunities (in fact, I'd imagine Cochran would be helpful in the mental aspects in challenges). So I'm with you there. And we're on the same page with not blindsiding Ozzy. I definitely think limiting Ozzy's power was important but would've been so much better, imo, to do it closer to the merge. If Jim/Keith can agree that Ozzy has lots of power, they could plan to blindside Ozzy as they get closer to 10. As long as Jim/Keith/Whitney are on board to do it a couple of tribal councils later, then Ozzy wouldn't have the ... Posted in: Off Topic |

**Official Survivor: South Pacific (Season 23) Thread** In regards to who knows Ozzy has the idol, we've seen Ozzy tell Keith and we've seen Keith tell Whitney. That's it so far. So based on what we've seen, Ozzy doesn't know that Whitney knows and Jim, Cochran, and Dawn don't know. But it's always possible the show just didn't air if more information was passed along. And Ozzy having the idol makes this such a terrible move for Jim/Keith/Whitney. I'm assuming Ozzy plays the immunity idol at the next tribal council (it would be really silly of him not to after he got abandoned like that, even if he's such a help in immunities) and he'll ... **Official Survivor: South Pacific (Season 23) Thread** Exactly. I'm not sure why people think Ozzy would be willing to keep the line of communication open. Obv Keith+Ozzy discussed before the vote what was happening and what happened* was that Keith told Ozzy "i'll vote Cochran." then Keith votes for Dawn - so he obv didn't keep his word and of course, it cost Elyse to get out of the game so it's extremely obvious Keith was in on the plan so no way Ozzy trusts him after that. i loved watching the move on TV, especially bc I want to see cochran go far in the game, but i think it was terrible move by keith, whitney, and possibly jim. they went ... A Serious Thread, RE: My Marriage this is pretty much what i was thinking. while having a good job, hobbies, etc. are important for me, my connection with my wife is above these things. i can't imagine being away for 2 years personally, much less when having a kid. to me, those things would be above a dream job. with that said, i think you can have a family and still work towards most dreams but, as you're already aware, there has to be sacrifice. for example, your dream is go to oxford your mba. you've mentioned oxford is your NBA but is the difference between oxford and, say, university of chicago so much ... For all you baseball fans... building a franchise around one player, i'd automatically rule out pitchers and catchers. seems like injuries are too common to pitchers that i couldn't make one my cornerstone and catchers decline too early in their career most of the time because of all the wear and tear. i'd be taking tulo or longoria myself and leaning longoria. longoria is a sick sick offensive and defensive player and has been one of the top players in terms of WAR the past couple years. hard to pass up a guy like tulo at SS as well. i'm assuming this doesn't take salaries into account the way it's currently being ... **"Survivor: Redemption Island" Official Thread** actually, even though he played the 2nd game before the 1st game finished airing, russell did know he lost. there was a confessional in HvV where he stated that he lost the prior season but now had a 2nd chance (i'd guess it was his opening confessional, i don't remember). so he knew - maybe the jury talked to him and told everybody their votes' so he didn't get it from the first time. not sure we really had the opportunity to see if he learned his lesson after the 2nd try. but yeah that tribe made a HORRRRRRRIBLE decision throwing that challenge. couldn't believe it then and still ... **"Survivor: Redemption Island" Official Thread** Tina clearly does not belong in that group. Tina was actually a pretty aggressive player (especially considering it was only season #2) and, if anybody was the follower, it was Colby. Tina engineered the Mitchell boot, she said when it was time to get rid of Jerri, she made the bold and correct decision to step down at the F10 immunity challenge after standing on that pole for 10+ hours because she knew she was safe and Keith was not (was going to be a 5-5 tie with past votes a tiebreaker), and she was the one (granted, allegedly since it wasn't on TV but supported by multiple players) who ... just kill the kid already...what a disturbing piece of news I think the key word/phrase that I left out is with "reasonable expectations" and is why I used calling 911 as a specific example. I think it is more than extremely reasonable to expect a fellow human to call 911 when someone is having a heart attack in front of them. It is not extremely reasonable to expect a person to dedicate his/her entire life to studying medicine to become a doctor to account for all situations. Obviously what are "reasonable expectations" is open to super interpretation but I think we can get close to consensus that calling 911 is a reasonable expectation (at ... Posted in: Off Topic |

just kill the kid already...what a disturbing piece of news yes i do. the murder is a very obvious example of directly taking somebody's life. the person's inaction in scenario A indirectly takes somebody's life. the consequence of his inaction in scenario A ends up with the same results. i'm sure what drives my opinion is that life is the ultimate right in my books and i think it deserves to be protected as much as possible. don't expect you to agree with me, just explaining my view. and hey, on the bright side, at least you know i'd help out if, heaven forbid, we ever ran across such situation. just kill the kid already...what a disturbing piece of news your comment seemed to focus on the stealing, which is not what i equate with murder. perhaps you didn't mean that but that's why i thought it was a sick interpretation. what i am saying is that this act was a 100% blatant disregard for human life. in my books it doesn't get any colder than seeing a man die in front of your eyes and not caring/not doing anything. being OK with that (or at least OK enough that you choose to not call for help if you want to get super technical) is as immoral as i think one can be. agree to disagree i guess. just kill the kid already...what a disturbing piece of news sick interpretation. what i think is that a person who could've done something so simple as calling 911 for help when another human being is dying in front of his eyes but chose not to is as bad as someone who knowingly kills someone else. Will a person ever run a sub two hour marathon. I know this wasn't intended by your post but don't elite runners draft for each other, similar to biking' Another advantage to today's runners putting up times that runners in the past could not. Also, from everything I've read, ancient Greeks were most interested in short distance running for speed whereas only a few runners trained for long distances for communication purposes. Add on top of that, you're going to utilize your energy over the distance you need to cover so if ancient runners weren't specifically gunning for 26.2 miles, it seems to reason they were not utilizing their ...
