Re:Soccer on ESPN Slugger, to start, gotta say I love your posts. For the fouls and what not, it's very very dependent on the referee. It's like in basketball, players go up for layups all the time and there is contact. Sometimes its called, sometimes it's not. Also, the reason that players go down like they were shot by a sniper is because unlike in basketball, points (or goals) count for a lot more. When only three goals are scored a game, each is important and that in turn makes set pieces (free kicks) important. If a typical soccer score was 10-8, players would fight to stay on their feet for ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:First serious bet you ever made This wasn't the first bet I made but it's the one I remember. Throw in 3 $5 chips making a $12 raise in a casino. Guy to my left throws in $12 even. Before the flop the dealer ships $3 change to the other guy, not me. I'm at the end of a 18+ hour session and have not been running well. I throw a hissy fit about it and the guy to my left decides he and the dealer are correct. He offers to bet me on it so I, being the 18 year old dumbass/baller I was, pull out a bill and throw it on the table. He matches me and I call security to check the tapes. So I'm writing a philosophy paper... And we have to come up with a theory that explains the creation of the pyramids and other such ancient monuments in response to some ridiculous theory provided for us in the prompt (some bull about aliens). The idea is to compare the strength of the arguments. My alternative theory is as follows... An alternative theory to the existence of gigantic architectural masterpieces is simply that Chuck Norris created them and in some cases, such as ancient Mayan ruins, destroyed them at will. For proof we need look no further than asking the legend himself, for Chuck Norris never lies, but for ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:Have you had a moment where it was "wow, I'm getting old"? My I'm getting old moment was earlier this year when it occurred to me and some friends that high schoolers actually become legal towards the end of senior year. Kinda hit me that some girls born in 1990 are now legal when some high school seniors visited my college (obviously recruits for one of the sports teams). I'm 20 years old. PS No, I did not sleep with any barely legals and no, I do not plan to. It just makes me feel old. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:The main reason American sports leagues are better than European football. We've all heard the opinions this forum has on flopping in soccer (which I agree with) but how can you sit here and say they don't train hard enough' Donovan McNabb is a fucking pussy in comparison to these guys. If his position demanded anywhere near as much out of his body as soccer players he would have been on the ground cramping, not throwing up like a little b****. The reason these guys are lying on the ground is because they've been running for more than 90 minutes while fending people off (which takes a lot more strength than most seem to think) and how many breaks do they ... Re:The main reason American sports leagues are better than European football. You, sir, are an idiot. The Super Bowl is not the most watched sports event each year. I've grown up here and loved soccer since I was a kid, having nothing to do with foreign parents. My dad started playing after I did for fun so I like to think I have a somewhat unbiased opinion. With that being said, I'm so fucking sick of all these fucking Americans believing that there is nothing outside our country. The game today was most likely viewed by more people than the Super Bowl was and I can guarauntee it would have been had both the teams not been English. You put Barcelona in that ... Essay Topic - $5 on stars to winner I'm required to write an essay for my ancient Roman History class that can be on anything in Rome. I'm looking for some interesting, entertaining, outside the box ideas. Can't be a biography. I'll ship $5 on stars to whoever suggests the essay topic I elect to write on. Note: it has to be 5-7 pages and what I write about should be significant, so if you throw out an idea like Ancient Roman Orgies, I need a significance to go along with that, like it improved relations between politicians :-) Posted in: Off Topic |

Re(1): Favorite mixed drink is.... Don't know who said it, but bartenders have time to mix drinks. Vodka with cheap Mango Tangerine punch before lecture every morning FTW. Best drink I bet no one here has had is a Raw Sewage. Don't have it if you care about looking manly but it's Vodka, Triple Sec, filled with pinapple juice, floated with Grenadine in a rocks glass. Soooooooo good. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re(1): Manly/Feminine Drinks As someone whose going to be a bartender when I turn 21 (already certified and all), I can definitely say that a Long Island Ice Tea is not manly. If you want to look manly, you order an Adios Mother Fucker. It's the exact same thing but with a bit of Blue Curacao instead of a dash of Cola. Now that's manly. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re(1): Rankings: 60 Most Difficult Sports The rankings are alright. Clearly pretty biased though. Anyone claiming baseball is tougher than soccer is lacking intelligence. Also, basketball should be way down the list. (like barely top 10). I'm not really clear on how they can say that basketball takes anywhere near as much endurance as soccer (I have played both completely). One is 90 minutes of steady jogging/running with a couple solid minutes of dead sprint. One break during all 90 minutes. The other is jogging up and down a court with very little more than a few quick step bursts (which you better believe you have to do ALL the ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Interesting Economics/EV questions... Any pros want to comment? (all welcome) The St. Petersburg Paradox This is a question that I was given on my financial economics problem set. I'd like to see what people respond here. Consider the following an investment. How much would you be willing to pay for it' You flip a coin until you flip heads. For every flip it takes you to flip a heads you make $2^N where N is the number of flips. For example, if you flip it once, you make $2, twice $4, three times $8, etc. How much would you pay' NOTE: For those of you too lazy to do the math, the expected return on this investment is infinite. In other words, mathematically, you ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(5): Which sport requires the most athleticism??? First of all, I don't seem to see too many basketball players being listed below 6 2 (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not too big a fan). Also, slicing through defenders in basketball requires you to juke with your feet, body and hands to get through players. That takes a lot. Now take that and try to slice through players with a ball at your feet. Now you have to move your feet and body through the players and keep the ball under control while moving. It's a lot more difficult. Jumping between players with the ball in your hands is cake compared to that. Note, I have a lot of respect for all ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Re(3): Which sport requires the most athleticism??? "Not everyone can sprint up a court at full speed while dribbling a basketball, slice through defenders and finish with a two-handed dunk." Um... first of all, how tall do you need to to dunk' While most players have insane jumping ability, few are average height (6 foot) and dunk, though there are exceptions. I hate to break this to you, but almost any athlete can dribble a ball down a court running close to full speed, it doesn't take much. Slicing between defenders is pure ball handling skills (assuming the player is already an athlete). Now take soccer. How many ATHLETES can take a ball ... Posted in: Off Topic |
