Family/friends against my decision to not do a 9-to-5: How do I make them understand? "The money doesn't matter at all. A real job helps to face the real challenges of life by going through numerous situations in a workplace which staying at home all day winning easy money doesn't achieve. One needs to get out of their comfort zone and be ready to tackle real-life situations, get real work experience, etc. to shape up as a complete and polished human-being." I apologize for not completely reading every post and going on a bit of an off topic tangent. They believe that somehow if you go to a real job you will have more "real life" experiences and thus learn to get over your ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Family/friends against my decision to not do a 9-to-5: How do I make them understand? I think that was my point. Alot of people look down on poker as somehow dishonest but I don't view it that way. In fact, I view many other "normal" jobs to be full of dishonesty and deception. Or at least, I think if you're going to call poker dishonest you should call those jobs dishonest as well. I was mainly sharing my own experience and outlook - I may have gone on a tangent that is slightly different than the OP but I get annoyed when people look down on what I do. Regarding the OP, I think it really depends on if you're making enough money and are treating poker like a business. I ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Family/friends against my decision to not do a 9-to-5: How do I make them understand? I believe alot of people have misconceptions about "normal" jobs contributing to society. I would say that most jobs in a capitalist society are mainly about taking and coercing people into buying things they don't want etc. For instance, I would argue that the majority of those in the advertising business spend their lives trying to associate their products with things that have nothing to do with the product they are selling. Most advertising is basically a lie in my opinion. If you are a day trader or invest I believe that nearly every time you profit someone else loses. Investment banks ... Posted in: Poker Community |

One of the sickest tables I think I've ever seen: $2100 SCOOP shootout I regged for this tourney and then looked at the field and unregged. The 100 person cap basically made it so there were < 3-5 legit fish in the whole tourney. This tourney might be the toughest of the entire SCOOP. Posted in: Poker Community |

Is there another site that tracks MTTs besides OPR? As much as I miss being able to look people up I think I agree with star's decisions. Nothing makes me more mad than seeing someone mention someone else's stats at the table. I makes no sense for people to be rude to fish, casino's give their whales free rooms, drinks, food etc. as profesionals its our job to make the fish feel welcome. Not having these sites will probably keep more fish playing which is invariably good for winning players. Having a -250 roi is impossible. Posted in: Poker Community |

Major rankings changes coming 8/1 Like I said, if I could go back and not make that post I would man :(. To be perfectly honest I got rly spun out in Mexico and wasn't thinking clearly. I am now though. Lesson learned - I stay away from the pharmacies. My intentions were just to get a friend of mine who I know is one of the illest some recognition cause I'm proud of him. However, I was so out of it and delusional at the time that I went about incoherently and stupidly without thinking about how it would be perceived. That being said, its not like I had any personal gain from it so hopefully people will forgive my being a ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Major rankings changes coming 8/1 *embarassed face* Not sure how I feel about the changes. Was semi-trolling and intoxicated all the time in mexico when I whined about the pro poll - my bad. The rankings are always going to be arbitrary in some way or another. I really don't mind things how they are now. ROI isn't necessarily indicative of skill either. I think a Pro Poll that was weighted slightly less would be good or less scores counting. However, I think making less scores count would put people who run hot one sunday way too high. Meh... Why Weavel's (betudontbet) Pro Poll should be much higher I'm really not sure because so many of the best players can't put in full schedules anymore because they spend 1/2 their time in America. I think part of why I started the thread is because I was depressed by the alot of top players in the pro poll who I think are good but not great. The most objective pro poll would be one that had average ROI, whoever, that information is too personal to include so I think it isn't possible. But, it forces those who do the pro poll to do alot of research on players. Most pro pollers will most likely either vote for their friends, vote based on a very ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Why Weavel's (betudontbet) Pro Poll should be much higher yea man, i talk too much :( Like maybe about 10x more than was necessary in this thread... Was being rly high at the time of the five super long posts an excuse' hella boring thread imo rly.... just i think my boy davids rly good and but am prolly showing favoritism since he's one of my best friends, so gotta apologize for that. But,i think the pro poll is broken, and I'm mainly sorry that I wasted my time writing so many words in a row just saying the same thing. Got all paranoid and over-analytical and shit. Why Weavel's (betudontbet) Pro Poll should be much higher I don't think he cares very much tbh... However, being number 1 has helped alot of people with sponsorships, coaching prices, etc. So it means something slightly better than lord of the crabs. He already is lord of the crabs anyway. Man, I want to apologize but I'm having a hard time finding a reason. Why accept something that is messed up' Why wouldn't this forum be about discussing the merits of each player. I'm allowed to have an opinion, that I admit is somewhat biased because of friendship. You are also just as welcome to make a post talking about how awesome you are and why your ... Why Weavel's (betudontbet) Pro Poll should be much higher Also, I see that you are in a very similar situation 1banditpanda which would explain your annoyance at my post since it was intended to persuade people to vote weavel a little higher. In retrospect, perhaps I shouldn't have done it, but I've also never seen a player quite like David, and think he's really sick. I was also motivated by the fact that I looked at the top 10 and it looked like there were alot of medium strength regs on a heater and putting in a ton of volume. I think you're really good though 1bandit, nothing against you or anyone. I just know from watching and talking poker ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Why Weavel's (betudontbet) Pro Poll should be much higher Good point. Having a hard time disagreeing with that. Its just very rare that the big high stakes cash guys do play tourneys but they usually do fairly well in them. Eh, actually, how many bracelets or tourneys you've won has alot to do with how much people respect you as an overall poker/cash player. Phil Ivey for example. All I know is that I respect the guys who can play any form of poker or any form of nlhe holdem more than most mtt guys who just play systematically. But perhaps I was giving those other facts a little too much weight. The main point was that this kid can play 2 card hold ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Why Weavel's (betudontbet) Pro Poll should be much higher Well yea, even the pro poll almost always works in my favor I'm speaking out against it because it only really works for people have longterm success. Right now so many people are in and out of playing and unable to put in their usual volume cause they're in the US. I would only rate 2-3 of the current top 10 in my top 25-30 mtt players. Some very well may be but I just don't have enough info on them to be sure. But yea, my I think the pro poll is flawed,. And, I haven't claimed to be anything but biased cause the guy I'm talking about is one of my best friends and I got him into tourneys as ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Why Weavel's (betudontbet) Pro Poll should be much higher When you say lame did u mean me basically riding David's penix and talking too much about his personality or did you mean my reasoning for him being voted higher' One hundred percent agree on lameness and irrelevancy on that point. Was a little inebriated at the time and I think he's awesome. Maybe I'm gettin lamer with age... Am still 100 percent certain that winning in cash games means you are good at deepstacked poker. Do you believe a person should play different in a 10/20 level with 3000 chips than at 10/20nl with 3000' Could see arguments for tightness for tourney life but I think ... Why Weavel's (betudontbet) Pro Poll should be much higher I imagine most good cash game players who suck at tournaments do very well in the deepstacked parts of tourneys and then are clueless how to play with 10-40 bbs... Nevertheless, it says something about his post-flop skill which is applicable to tournaments. I think we may just have to agree to disagree here. Almost everyone who plays poker professionally agrees that there is more skill in cash games than tournaments and that it would be much easier to teach someone beating 10/20 nl how to beat tourneys than it would to teach someone beating tourneys to beat 10/20 nl. I don't want to get into ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Why Weavel's (betudontbet) Pro Poll should be much higher Man, tbh I don't really know. Its v difficult when alot of the guys who i consider to be the best arent even actively playing online and black friday changed teh dynamics of everything. I personally think flush entity plays v well and is deserving of the number 1 spot but I have a hard time determining an objective way to use my pro poll as well. Its just hard to rate so many people with similar skill sets above or below one another. I tried doing mine the other day and got rly frustrated. Firstly, there were a number of people with high scores who I had little to no history with and secondly ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Why Weavel's (betudontbet) Pro Poll should be much higher I disagree... I think those things all determine how good he is overall at NLHE poker and therefore tournament poker. I actually am a little surprised that people would think that those other things are irrelevant. Him being able to beat high stakes cash means he can hand read and plays post-flop better than most tourney players. Beating sngs suggests an understanding of push/fold and bubble situations on a higher level than many tournament regs. The pro poll should be there so that skill is acknowledged, all of those things point to an elite level of skill. I think the pro poll is really ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Why Weavel's (betudontbet) Pro Poll should be much higher Hey p5ers, My good friend Betudontbet has been on a huge tear recently, its almost every day that he wins a tourney. In fact, he has the number 1 sliding plb score in the world right now. But he's getting no respect. Some people might not like him cause he says goofy shit in the chatbox at times, but if you knew the guy you'd realize its just funny. He just doesn't care.... He's one of the crustiest, smartest, funniest, most original guys I ever met - he also has a huge heart and would give anything to a friend who needed it. Pocketfives Training Discussion: Hand vs well known villain Rather than write my typical over-indepth response I'm going to have to say that versus Moorman I'd c/c and then c/c anything but a J, Q, K, or 8.... I just think his flatting range is most likely going to include two weakish broadways more often than suited connectors versus a player like you. And, although i do think he would bet 2 pair on the turn, I believe he would also raise all of those 2 pairs on the flop. Also, all of his 8x hands would have a pair and an oesd and I assume he'd raise those hands on the flop as well. T97dd isn't the kind of board people slow play strong hands on ... Horrible 5bet shove spew? These sorts of spots are really hard to say whether they're good or bad since its all about game flow and player reads. With those reads I don't hate it, I've seen plenty of mtt regs 4 bet fold in these spots. Think your sizing is fine too. Posted in: Training Forum |

Could I have played it differently really hard to fold there pre getting such good odds, you could probably fold if he was tight and made it a larger size. Its pretty common to 3 bet small these days though so you can't put him squarely on QQ+, AK or whatever. I play the same. Posted in: Training Forum |

Should i have shoved?? 3 bet stats are misleading over a small sample size, this is where huds can get you in trouble. Regardless of the fact that his stats would point to him being very loose aggressive, this isn't exactly the spot where people are 3 bet folding very often (UTG+3 vs UTG+1). Also, as previously mentioned, when you have 20 big blinds effective stacks you want to raise much smaller (like minraise or slightly more than minraise) as it allows you to have more utility with ur stack and make your steals much more profitable. If you are going to be opening as loose as A9 from EP you definitely should be ... Posted in: Training Forum |
