Re:Judge freezes payments of online poker Hey Engineer, I looked up the U.S Attorney for the Southern District of NY and his name is Lev Dassin. Apparently, he has no political affiliations though he was appointed during the Bush Administration. He became the "Acting" U.S. Attorney when the previous Attorney resigned in 2008. Basically, he is a placeholder until Obama appoints someone else. Usually, placeholders don't try to set policy or ruffle feathers by keeping a low profile. But, according to NYTimes articles, it looks like Dassin is trying to establish a name for himself. So, I can't help thinking this ... Posted in: Poker Legislation |

Re:stars cashout question If by direct cashout you mean check--then, very fast. I cashed out twice this month and both times had the check within 2 days. I'm from California where the processing center is located, so that may help. It may take a couple of days longer for other states. BTW, the checks were from the same banks I have accounts with, so neither check was subject to a hold. :) Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Please voice your support for establishing adequate representation of the industry we fund! Chris, I am not sure how feasible the idea is. By analogy, let's look at baseball. Originally, baseball had a Commission governing it which proved very ineffective in light of the BLack Sox scandal. To avoid federal regulation, the owners scrapped the Commission and instead elected a Commissioner. The Commissioner is actually an employee of the owners though he has made some decisions adverse to the owners. Here, we can see that the KGC is as ineffective as the original baseball "Commission." But, I do not see the owners (the poker sites) having any motivation to agree to ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Anyone having connection issues on FTP? Haven't played on FT in a while and played for the first time today. Will never play there again. It was extremely slow and kept freezing my screen. I turned off all other programs, including HM, and still kept freezing. In fact, it timed me out of a hand where I had a set. :( I looked at the Windows Task Manager Performance window and it had a really weird graph--cpu usange would vary between 100% and 7% in a very coordinated fashion. Maybe their latest download had some sort of device to check for usage of illegal programs or something and it used too much cpu's' Went over to PS and ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

109 FO--SB v. BB, Putting BB on Reraise range The BB’s VPIP/PFR are 20/15. We had only one run in where I raised JJ from CO and he reraised allin from button with AQ and won the flip. An orbit ago I folded 47o from the SB when folded to me. Not sure if any of that is relevant but may make him see me as raising more likely with a legit hand. Folded to me in the SB and I raise KJo and he pushes. I’m getting close to 1:5 to 1. What range do you put him on' Is this a call or a fold' I folded but am thinking that his range has to be close to top 30% of hands and then, it's an easy call. Too tight a fold' Thanks for any input. POKERSTARS ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Sun. Million--20bb's w AA and UTG raise--best play? I have a little under 20 bb's and UTG has approx. 20. His poker tracker numbers are 18/14 and he seems pretty tight in ep but continuation bets 100% of the time and often 2 barrels. I had a tight image but was just recently caught making a move. UTG raises and I have AA. Giving him a range of 88+. AJs+, AQo+, what's the best move to maximize the amount of chips I win' In the long run would a smooth call or a reraise make the most money against an UTG's range' POKERSTARS GAME #15358504761: TOURNAMENT #76753805, $200+$15 HOLD'EM NO LIMIT - LEVEL XI (750/1500) - 2008/02/17 - 19:20:19 ... Re(1): tough spot 109r The turn card did not really change anything--i.e., it's not a scare card or gives Empire a draw to semi-bluff. As such, he has to assume that if you called his flop bet oop, you most likely will call his turn bet. And, he should expect that the river bet will also be called. So, I would put his range more towards the KQ, 22, 66, etc. and less towards a bluff. But, if Empire has played you enough and knows that you check/call with a weak king, then it could be a three barrel bluff to push you off your weak king. If Empire is a cash game player, he can read your hand here pretty easily. I lean ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

What's the better play for him' Does he come over the top of Tmay, trapping his dead money, figuring Tmay can only call with a monster since there are 2 shorties left' Or does he just call and check it down, hoping to eliminate the short stack so close to the serious money' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Mid Stakes MTT Group thread ^^^^^^^^^ Agree with Milky. Setting up a webpage should be one of our first priorities. It would make organizing subgroups easier, get us going on strategy talks, etc. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience in that area but do know a couple of people who might be able to help. I'll email you Devil42. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): I want to teach somebody. Hi Damage1, Here's your chance to test your methods. I have been playing MTT's for a few years (anywhere from $20 to $100) with some successes. I have won a couple of $50 tournies and have made the end game in a number of tournaments. But, I feel my end game needs some work and that I play too tight at times. I am trying to open up and play more aggro and lag but, it still is a work in progress. I would really appreciate guidance by someone who understands making moves and experiments with them--especially post-flop where I think my play is definitely too conventional (ABC). I work ... Re(5): Another tricky MTT situation What Gus said. Without knowing the villain's betting habits, you have to guess what he has. I think too often you will be either dominated --AK--or flipping with 99-JJ (and, as Gboro said, there's the risk of a premium). If this is a low level tournament (guessing because of the villain's bet), then you are probably one of the better players at the table and can wait for a better opportunity to get chips. I prefer fold to shove but it's close. Only thing I don't like is a flat call OOP for that many chips. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Who agrees this is an easy read and call? Have to disagree that it would never be AA-KK. The UTG raiser only has 12 bb's and a tight player reraises him from MP, suggesting you have a very strong hand and will be coming along for the ride if reraised. And, by pushing, frari may get you to think he has a hand like AK and get you to call with hands that might be more cautious if he played AA-KK more trickily. (Plus, any reraise by frari, commits him and the caller, so a push seems appropriate). Not saying he definitely has AA-KK, just that you can't say he NEVER has it. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Final Table Tough spot with AK Yan, You are getting over 2:1 pot odds. If Icash does this with JJ+, Ako and AKs, you are getting actual odds of 1.5:1. If he does it with QQ+, AKo, AKs, still getting 1.6 to 1. If he does it with KK+, AKo and Aks, still getting 1.7 to 1. You are only failing to get proper pot odds if he does this with QQ+ and never AK (and even with QQ, you almost have pot odds; you have to go to KK+ to have really bad odds). I just don't think you can give up these kind of odds, especially when if you win the pot, you have a stranglehold on the table. I can only see folding if Thunder, urself and Icash ... Re(1): bizzare hand from Turks And Caicos The bet/call v. bet/fold may be a lot closer than people think. When you just called the min-raise on the turn (with flush and straight draws out there), you are saying that you like --but don't love--your hand. A stronger hand would have used that opportunity to reopen the betting. People can be pushed off of hands that they only like, especially when it's for a good portion of their stack. Re(1): Justin Bonomo's article in Sept issue of BLUFF I think the OP makes 3 false assumptions in his post. First, he claims that because JB cheated in the past, he is still a cheat and will always be a cheat. Second, Because JB cheated in the past, his articles don't have any worth. Third, that only 18-22's are interested in reading his articles. It appears that JB has genuine remorse for his past behavior. People can change--BR provides an excellent example of how someone grows from admitting his or her past mistakes and learning from them. So, your first assumption does not have any evidentiary support. But, even assuming that JB doesn't ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): really weird 2 pair hand from mulligan Another possibility. He does have AA or Ak with the Ad. He guesses you either have a flush or otherwise have him beat (set, 2 pair). So, he knows who you are and knows that 1) you have only seen him show down the nuts and 2) you will calculate your pot odds and will assume he's not bluffing when he's giving such great pot odds; 3) you don't hold the nut flush. If he's sure he loses the pot if he folds/calls, he may just bluff here, knowing you are good enough to fold. I think you're behind but because there is a strong enough possibility he is bluffing, ya gotta call with those pot odds. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Trying to pull a bel0w Just quickly doing the math, you are giving filliest almost 2.5:1 pot odds and he has you covered. If he's aggro, he's probably a gambler and likes those pot odds. You are showing great strength putting in the third reraise but he may not be able to resist those odds and may call you with more hands than you expect. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): *Serious Discussion* BeL0W's style in NLHE MTTs I'm not sure I would characterize this as a TAG v LAG debate. Maybe it's more a gambler v. non-gambler debate. There was an interesting hand from the PPT last Saturday involving T.J. Cloutier who is regarded as one of the premier TAG players. I don't remember all the details about blinds, etc. but T.J. is in the BB with 9T and calls an early position raise by Noli Francisco with AQ (suits of either hand not relevant). Flop is QJx. T.J. check-raises Noli and Noli pushes all-in. T.J. is the table chip leader and Noli is second in chips. Sorry I don't remember the exact amount of the bets but ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Any Two? Discussion Hand from WPT Final Table With an M of 2 and such a short stack, I don't think he has any fold equity against any of the larger stacks. So, do you really want to be called with 3 high' I ran 2d3d v. a random hand in poker stove and a random hand was a 64% favorite. Re(1): Sheets, bad reshove by me, on your button raise? Sheets, One question about your basic assumptions in this hand. You are assuming that a 3XBB raise is inviting action. But isn't a 3xbb raise more likely to curtail action than invite it' A 3xBB raise is almost 40% of your stack. You look pot-committed and any reraise gives ya great pot odds for calling. So, wouldn't a blind with 22-66 be more likely to fold to a 3xbb raise, thinking that you are begging for action with a strong hand' I think a blind is more likely to put you on a broader range of hands with a push than with a suspicious looking raise and will be more likely to call a push ...
