welp..here we go.
I wish I could play disc golf again. That would mean I don't have any responsibilities again like when I first played in the mid-nineties. Great game.

Not Quite Threadworthy (OT's Dumping Ground) - May 2012
I'd guess what I'm trying to say is that I would be happy with a single and another beer. If this was a mens' league, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Best Credit Card Company/Supplier?
I have the Amex Premier Rewards gold card. It is $175 year, but they give me 30,000 bonus points for putting at least 30k on it each year, so it sort of pays for itself. Also has double points for gas/groceries and 3x points for booking air travel. Customer service is great with Amex and you get other rewards such as purchase protections and double the warranty for anything bought with the card. But it's not a credit card and needs to be paid in full each month, so if your a high user and can get the 30k bonus points, this card makes lots of sense.

What percentage of your monthly gross income do you pay for your mortgage?
We certainly don't worry about money and eat out a lot at nice places. We did buy a new car last summer. 2011 VW Jetta Sports Wagon. Even thought I know I can afford another car, just hate car payments so I will continue to look like a tool in the 2000 Honda Civic.

What percentage of your monthly gross income do you pay for your mortgage?
That is roughly what we charge each month. Needs to be paid off each month.

What percentage of your monthly gross income do you pay for your mortgage?
Gross income is right around 12k between the wife and I. Our mortgage payment is $1920.00/m which includes escrow. So yeah, living pretty large. Also drive a 2000 Honda Civic to further underscore my cheapness. Now if I could only get rid of that 3k month Amex bill.

Its been a while since we had a Pet Peeves thread
Go read beer reviews of Bud Light, or Coors light, or Miller Lite. You'll read a lot of descriptions of it lacking flavor, which was my original statement.

It's called flavor. But don't worry about it, a lot of people don't like flavor.

Non-Partisan Political Question: Social Security & Medicare
Yes, it was supposed to be kept in a trust and used only for SS funds. I believe Johnson was the first to start drawing from it with IOU's. So now the trust has all these IOU's from the treasury that can't be monetized in anyway and the only way to pay it back it to crank up the presses.

Non-Partisan Political Question: Social Security & Medicare
Obviously changes will have to be made and eventually they will be made. You'll see the cap raised substantially on the amount of income that can be taxed, means testing for benefits when you retire, raising of age to receive full benefits, reduced benefits once you do retire...etc. I suspect it will still be around past 2033.

Does this analogy of taxes make sense?
I'll have to check. I know the bottom two brackets did not change % wise, so not everyone got a lower tax rate, maybe the income threshold did change though. But that changes every year by a thousand or so dollars. EDIT: It seems the 10% bracket was created with Bush's tax cuts, so I see what your saying.

Does this analogy of taxes make sense?
Part of the problem is that there are too many tax breaks and loopholes. End those and create a flat tax. Here are some that I qualify for: Married Having a kid Paying a mortgage Childhood care Health care Education Investment loss Charity donations I pay about a 12-13% effective federal income tax rate. A rather large % end up paying nothing in federal income tax with all the deductions.
