Harrington's M I usually use M until I'm under 20BB or so, then I switch to BB. I have a more general question about M though...I've read Harrington's books multiple times, and his discussion of play in the Yellow and Orange Zones is VERY limited. I understand that small pairs and suited connectors go down in value, because you're not getting the implied odds, but I'm not exactly sure what goes UP in value. Obviously you're willing to play AA down to the felt at this point, but I've seen advice for these Zones range everywhere from "tighten up" to "loosen up". Harrington does say to play your high cards ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

can someone give me an example of a "marginal spot" ? Think of a marginal spot as anytime you kinda sorta think maybe you might just possibly have the best hand...or not. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

TAKE ACTION: Let's Send the All-New PPA Letters to Our Lawmakers -- It Takes 60 sec! Um, you might want a different letter for players in Washington, kinda doesn't make sense that they would embrace the Federal bill while the state has a law on the books making playing online poker a Class C felony. And, not real keen on giving the AG my name and address, just in case. Other than that, right there with ya. Blue Posted in: Poker Discussion |

U.S. players not allowed to deposit with Visa or Mastercard anymore??? Just give it a little time...Stars and Tilt blow WAY too much $$ advertising in the US market to not figure out a convenient workaround. Everybody stop freaking and chill. F the GOP. Blue Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:What do you do to get focused? Amen. I'm an RN in an ICU. Adderall can cause heart rate and/or blood pressure increases--short term, no big deal; long term, it can cause you congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, heart attacks, etc. BTW, for those of you out there on Adderall...Adderall + booze = like a jillion % increase in your risk of heart attack, stroke, etc. And I'm not talking about when you're 75. I'm talking about you take Adderall today, you get drunk tonight, you pass out, have a stroke in your sleep, and you wake up and can't talk and can't move your fucking left side. Yeah, ... Re:Sample Sizes & determining "true" ROI Thank you. That sounds, intuitively, about right...guess I'm gonna have to find some kinda stats program that works with standard deviation or else get a book and break out an abacus and a slide rule, lol. Peace, Blue Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Sample Sizes & determining "true" ROI Yes, an estimate. Like I said, to X% confidence...that's the best statistics can really EVER do, and that's all I was asking for. And I think you'll need multiverses to ship the Million that way. Peace, Blue Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Sample Sizes & determining "true" ROI Hey guys, Anybody know the numbers (or got a link to an online calculator) on how big a sample size you need to have X% confidence that your actual ROI is close to your "true" or expected future ROI' For instance, I've played about 600 DoNs and have an ROI of around 6%. I'd like to figure out how big a sample size I need to be confident that that ROI will hold. I know it can be done with standard deviation & whatnot, but it's been a damn long time since I've had a statistics class. Mainly interested in the #'s for DoNs/single-table SNG's, but would be ... Re:What do you do to get focused? First...dude, just saying "(I'm a big time degen)" and leaving it at that...that's no good. Never mind what it does to your bankroll, being on that rollercoaster won't just wreck your BR, it'll wreck your SOUL. I doubt there's much that could destroy your motivation more than making a couple big scores, and then blowing it all (or a bunch of it) playing too high. If you can stop doing that on your own, do it. If you can't, maybe you need to check into Gambler's Anonymous, or at least find a couple trusted friends who will help you keep yourself in ... Re:hand in microstake tourny Unless you know the guy is a maniac or is capable of 4-bet semi-bluffing with Ax of spades, he's gonna be showing you 22 (or AT) pretty damn often. After his 4-bet, you're looking at putting in 1340 to win 3790 (after he puts in his last 300, which of course he will). So you need to be better than 35% to win. You've only got 2 outs regardless of whether he has AT or 22. That gets you about 9%, but I don't see where you can find the other 26% you need...no way an unknown is showing up with air or a flush draw that often here, IMO. Even if he has the flush draw 1/3 of the time ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:common preflop spot, opinions? Hey Zen, I'm no master, but if you limp on the button here, you have several potential problems, of which these two jump to mind: 1.) Either blind may read your limp as weak (and since you ARE weak, that's bad), and raise or shove on you with ATC or close to it. Then what' 2.) Let' say SB fold and BB checks. What's his range' When he check-raises you on an A-8-3 flop after you've let him see three free cards, and he can have ANYTHING...then what' Friends don't let friends limp on the button. Re:New P5s beta I really dislike the removal of the sortable rankings from the main page. It may be stupid, but I like logging in and seeing I'm ranked #3 or whatever in my city. Not a big fan of the huge rakeback ads on the right, or the big training site plugs, but I know the bucks to keep the site going gotta come from somewhere. And the new color scheme is too flat. Too much white and red, not enough shading and stuff to break it up. No errors for me, but not feeling the feng shui. Blue Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Unemployed If you know ICM and can play tight, try $5 DoNs. You've got 60 buy-ins with your roll, if you can do 10 tables at a time you'll probably be pulling down about minimum wage. Put in 60-80 hours a week, avoid tables full of regulars, and you could do OK. With your roll, I think that's liable to be your best shot. Good luck man...hang in there. Re:Calling off with AKo In a $1-$4 MTT, how many ppl shoving there do you think fit your "very tight" villain category' In all other instances, you're like 52%+ against villain's range...so unless you have a "very tight" read on villain, you have a +EV call. Every now and again he'll have Aces or Kings and you'll be unhappy, sometimes you'll have a flip, sometimes he'll have AQ, AJ, or A2 and you're happy, sometimes he's got J4o and he's shoving because he's realized he's gotta go take a dump. Re:8 year old won 500k??? Waitaminute...the article said an UNCLE created the account. So why in the hell would the family tell the site an 8 year old was playing, and/or how the hell would the site ever find out it was the 8 year old playing and not the uncle' I mean, this could happen...there are 8 year old kids who are chess masters, for God's sake...but if it did, somebody in that family needs their tongue cut out for running off at the mouth about the 8 year old being the player instead of the uncle. More likely...it's BS. Blue Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:HUD programs vs Old School Look at it this way..."old school" players never played 24 tables at a time. If you multitable, I think you'd be a fool not to use a HUD...but as the poster above mentioned, you miss out on learning to observe the table, which you'll need to do if you ever play live. Unless they come out with some really kick-ass glasses that would put a HUD over everybody's head at a live table. That would rock. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:my aim got hacked....what to do now? 1.) Get on a friend's computer. 2.) Change every other password on EVERY site you use that uses money to a password you've never used before. 3.) Reset AIM password to your email, if possible (good luck getting help from AOL lol) 4.) Get back to your home machine. 5.) Delete AIM as soon as possible and never, EVER use it again. 6.) Find and install a reputable keylogger detector (doubt it's an issue, but just in case). 7.) Order all the RSA tokens you can get your hands on. Best of luck, Blue Posted in: Poker Discussion |
