Place your bets, when will it get solved? At first it will probably just be you playing against other people in the same state. As more states adopt ipoker legislation, they may enter into interstate compacts like they do with large jackpot lotteries, so you'd be able to play with people in a handful of other states. Playing against ROW players seems off the table for the time being but who knows. In the future it may be possible but that seems years away. Posted in: Poker Legislation |

Is this a bad shove? He's UTG+3 though, not UTG. This is a shove with 5 people to beat, but especially in a super turbo where you cant pass up spots. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Family/friends against my decision to not do a 9-to-5: How do I make them understand? One way is to demonstrate to them that you treat poker like a real job. Tell them the discipline and organizational mandates that come with being a full-time pro and that you intend to stick to them diligently. It might also be good to follow through with some of the advice in that other thread regarding overcoming your anxiety, whether it's doing volunteer work, joining a club, etc. This will let them know that just because you are doing poker, you aren't necessarily going to let yourself devolve into an asocial hermit or whatever their fears are. We all have people in our lives who think ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Running bad ? It is possible to run bad forever. Okay maybe not forever, but at least forever-n, with n being some non-zero duration of time. Obviously that's unlikely though. Seems like some combination of you running somewhat bad, the games being somewhat tougher, and your initial success coming when you were running above expectation. Not fun, but as you say you are confident that you are a winning player, and even in your downswing you're making money, so you should be well-equipped to fight through it. Posted in: Bad Beats |

12 month plan to becoming a part time then Full Time grinder online? One of the things you can do with this time is to better understand where your bread is buttered. Find the tournament type (MTT, SNG, 180-man, etc.) and the game type (Hold Em, Omaha, PLO8) at the buy-in that is your sweet spot. Consider what your bankroll will be and what sort of variance you'll be able to endure. Ask yourself if you'd rather play at the highest buy-in you can possibly beat or at a reasonable buy-in where you're more comfortable and feel less pressure. Do you want to play super high volume with a ton of tables open or just focus on a handful of tournaments at a ... Posted in: Poker Community |

Weird spot with K10s OOp I would definitely c-bet this flop. It's a draw heavy board and the villain is fairly short-stacked, meaning he is likely to stick in his chips with a ton of hands you are beating or have significant equity against. A c-bet of around 1/2 pot leaves you only needing 30% equity to call his shove, which you easily should have, unless this villain is super passive/nitty. A c-bet can also take him off some hands that you are losing to and will keep you from having awkward decisions on later streets if the villain had checked. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

KK 12bbs CO - open or shove? In general Im shoving Kings with this stack, but this situation seems like a good spot for a standard open and then proceed from there. I disagree with the idea that you need to be some kind of postflop wizard to make this a more profitable play. If you are competent and confident in a basic postflop game, this hand should pretty much play itself 90% of the time. And if even if you play it sub-optimally postflop, this can still be more profitable than open shoving. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Nash Push/Fold Questions The charts will tell you which plays are unexploitably profitable, but that won't always be the most profitable play. For example, you might be able to shove 97s according to the chart, but if the villain is a nit whom you know won't flat and will only shove with a very narrow range of top hands, then raise/fold would probably be a better option. Obviously it's not often that you have this kind of perfect information, but the dynamics and player reads can lead you to deviate from a strict push/fold game. Using the chart will be profitable even if the villains are calling almost perfectly ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Overbeat-Stay away I do play on overbet and while I'm no cheerleader for them, I have a hard time drawing too many conclusions from this one post. The OP leaves out too many details and throws in some extra ones, which makes me somewhat dubious about the authenticity of this post. And as donkiman alluded to, there may be other factors the OP didnt mention. And even if it did happen as stated, I don't know that the blame falls selectively on the skin with no fault going to the network. I don't carry any water for Overbet or any other skin, but Id just like to see more than this before I conclude my money is ... Posted in: Poker Sites |

AKs EP early in MTT I think preflop raise size is okay even for online. OP says this is early in the tournament and I dont think there's anything wrong with 3.5Xing or 4Xing early on. If you 2x or 2.5x you will often get like a 6-way pot which sucks. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

AKs EP early in MTT I think you ought to be c-betting there. It builds the pot for the times that you do hit your flush, and your hand will be somewhat disguised. If you check the flop I think you should bet the turn. And as played I think you should bet the river. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Lock Poker purchase of the Cake Poker Network Id like more clarification on this as well. I dont want to answer for the sites, but Im proceeding as if continuing on Merge will require regging with a new skin, under a new name, and a new bankroll. And that everything you have on Lock will just be moved over to their new network. I could be wrong but I think this is how it will work, and it is probably prudent to assume so. What I miss about FTP....... This and also just being able to play what I want when I want. If I wanted to grind super turbos, I could fire up half a dozen at any hour of the day in seconds. Or I could launch some 90mans. Or PLO8 SnGs. There was rarely an issue of playing just what was available. I could play what I felt like playing. Posted in: Poker Community |

Bring back PokerStars to the US - plsssss I agree with this. I am eager to see how intrastate poker in Nevada will play out and if other states race to follow. Even a multi-state compact with 5-10 states could make for some really good sites. Stars has consistently been great, but one of the things that has allowed it to be great is a gigantic player base. We may not be able to replicate that here prior to federal regulation, but intrastate/multi-state poker with consumer safeguards and some sort of a competitive market should be light years better than the merge/bovada/cake crap we have to deal with now. SCOOP29. 60th, 230 left, 70 bbs. JJ, 4-way, 3-bet AI, call or not? I think a lot depends on what kind of player the villain is and how you expect him to perceive the action in front of him. Your flat should look quite strong because youre committing to calling the guy in the BB with 300k if he shoves. And flat/folding there is just sort of unusual. He also might expect you to shove medium-strong parts of your range, so the flat just looks really strong. If he's the kind of player that will recognize that, I think this would be a fold. If not, I think you can give him a wider range that puts you at a very slight dog against him. I guess if you think youre ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

making pot odds calls from the blinds in MTT's Mostly this is not a good idea unless you are really good postflop and/or the villain is pretty bad postflop. Calling hoping to smash the flop and win a huge pot when youre that shallow and out of position is probably a leak, and one that you should be able to fix with a little discipline. There are many MTTs where I go long stretches of time without calling any bets preflop (I will either open or 3-bet, or fold). Now there are times when it can be profitable to flat, but you might try this either/or raise/fold approach just to see how it affects your game. Aggression can do wonders for your ... New Jersey Assembly okays egaming bill?? Really, whether Obama comes out in favor of gay marriage, gambling, drug legalization, etc. would have a very limited effect on his chances of getting re-elected. And it would also have a pretty limited effect on whether or not the relevant legislation gets passed. Presidential elections are mostly determined by a fairly narrow set of economic indicators.
