***Immigration Policies Thread*** My wife and I have been looking at Belize. May be a decent choice for americans as the official language is english. Cost of living is low and residency can be established with proof of monthly income of $2,000 +. Our hangup is our home here...can't afford 2 domiciles...but we're definitely exploring it. "sigh" Poker Stars and Banking So I've been reading all of the threads about payment processors getting busted, funds being seized, deposits and withdrawals not going through for US players and I'm wondering...why can't I just open an offshore account in, say, Belize, and make deposits/withdrawals that way' They speak english there. Accounts can be funded and kept in dollars. And they could care less about people playing online poker. Account set-up is quite easy and, of course, I'd report the offshore account to the IRS. Alas, Poker Stars tells me since I live in the US all of my banking must go through the US ... Posted in: Poker Sites |

Poll: Your thoughts on poker discussion as a forum As a micro-parttime-sometimes grinder-who enjoys learning new strats I have to say "B"....and yet, still "A". The snide remarks and piling on at "4" to anyone who comes in with a new idea don't seem to be as prevalent here; hence "A". The lack of new ideas, concepts (or the lack of willingness from great players to share their ideas) makes me add the "B." Of course you guys with the badges aren't "required" to share your thoughts...that's completely understood. It's your living, after all, and it would be stupid of amateurs like me to expect you to feel obligated to share your knowledge in ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Old Guy Micro-Donkery Agree 100%. The concept I was trying to convey is that too many of us micro-donks view the game from an ABC perspective instead of realizing we're transparent and many times willing to stack off stupidly. The blinders WERE, in fact, that I couldn't imagine someone calling with JTs back then (06 or 07). That made calling a raise from me with anything remotely decent +EV for an opponent. The real problem for us slow-learners is we read the books, we learn the phrases and catchwords, but we really don't read board textures...we just think we do. We often fail to put opponents on hand ranges, ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Old Guy Micro-Donkery When I started my first thread a few weeks ago and referred to playing "concept poker" as opposed to "system poker," there was an overwhelming demand (by one respondent) to "post moar!" You asked for it (at least one of you did and that's enough), so, here it is. In my original thread I referred to the ongoing education of a micro-donk (me), and how several poker books had finally begun to steer me away from desperately seeking the elusive "winning system," and going for a more meta-game approach. This is about trying to get a handle on poker concepts as opposed to rote moves. Nothing I post ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Official Bankroll Management Thread What's your strength' Deepstack or shallow' If you're comfortable with your postflop play I'd suggest the deeper stacked micro tournies for $1.10 or $2.20 on Stars. They also have some shallow stack MTTs and most of the MT SNGs are 1,500 starting stacks. With a roll that small you need to play to your strengths in not only type of game selected but starting stacks. Brann Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Confessions of an Old Guy (tl;dr) Thanks for the props, guys. Sorry about the late response but I had a full day at work to take care of. Everything I know about poker I stole from someone, so I'm not sure I have any real insights to offer. I just enjoy the game and the challenge. The real insights come from mining the knowledge of others. Seriously, how many times have you read book one of "Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time'" I'm on my 5th read and am still collecting gems. It's almost frightening how much I've learned from it (especially about folding). lol, thanks! I'm sure they'll be contacting me any day ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Confessions of an Old Guy (tl;dr) I'm old...61 to be exact...62 at the end of January. But I love online poker and am especially fond of you young smartasses who actually have something more instructive to say than "kewl." I love "Kill Everyone" (original version...haven't sprung for the Elky copy yet) and think the "Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time" series is the shit. I think the "FTP Tournament Guide" is a damned fine book and credit the "Poker Tournament Formula" with finally opening my eyes to what I call "concept" poker vs "system" poker. (Don't get excited; I'll bore you with what I mean later.) I'm a ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Am I correct ? Aimed toward profitable micro mtt players. In his book "The Poker Tournament Formula" Snyder makes the point you'll lose the most when you have a good hand out of position. I think that pretty much falls in line with what many pros have written; ie: it's easy to fold when you have air, not so easy when you have TPTK. Brann Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:MTT, where am i going wrong? Play MT SNGs. Both of the major sites have them and they're a good way to get in some volume without spending hour upon hour in a 2,500 runner tournament. Play a bucnh of those and you'll be better prepared for larger fields. Brann Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Deep in FTP 12.5gty (5r 6max) Facing 30BB shove from BB. Good or bad spot? Guess I'm a micro-donk spewtard cause I'm calling here. Just one question to pokerstove users...isn't villain's range on poketpairs actually a little wider here' I know it wouldn't change the percentages much, but don't we often see pockets as low as 44 here' Regardless, though, I'd take this flip (cause that's what I think it is.) Re:What is the bottom of your jamming range here? FWIW, if I'm the initial raiser, I'm raising the UTG limper with 55+, A9s+, KTs+, QJs,QTs,JTs, AJ+ and KQ. That, for me, is ABC poker against a bad, spewy player's UTG limp. Granted, I'm ascribing MY ABC standards to another player as the scenario is outlined, but my jam with AQ fares pretty well against the range listed above and I believe my FE is pretty good here. Re:What is the bottom of your jamming range here? A lot depends on the first raiser. Has he been isolating the spewy player' Is he generall agg or is he a nit' That would definitely affect my ranges. However, assuming he's a standard ABC type, I'm pushing here with 99+, AQ+, AJs. Brann Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:This One's For You, Old "Live Pro" I'm getting ready to celebrate my 61st birthday and I'm not proiud of my gray hairs. I'm also not offended by the OP because there's just too damned much truth in it. Many of us old-timers, pro and non-pro alike, are of an era when we played exactly as Frank describes. Here's another term to offend you..."weak tight." If you can't glean some usable info from the OP then perhaps you'd better learn to live with your playing style. Brann Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Fears of being drawn out on. (with example) Ok, I think I see where you're coming from here...but you're wrong. Hope I can explain this clearly. From a value standpoint you want your opponents to call when they're not getting the odds to do so. It doesn't matter if they hit. If you can get villains to regularly call while getting bad odds you'll earn at cash games and often go deep in tournaments. Not sure what else you'd want. (I won't get into overbetting flops/overraising pre-flop against the right opponents.) As a standard, ABC type of poker play, you should be bet-sizing enough to build the pot for ...
