Signing off post: My lessons learned from poker.
I want to make one last comment (I promise!) here to round this off. I want to explain how I made this possible. There is definitely some merit in my original post, but it's riddled with negativity and self-defeatism. It represents someone who's fed up with feeling like no matter what they do, they cannot make the grade. It’s amazing how different I feel now; the transformation since then, and this is what I want to share with you. Saying that, the real fruit in this thread is in the responses. Lenail mentioned 'balance', and this is key. From day one, the dream consumed me. My ...

Signing off post: My lessons learned from poker.
This evening, I excluded myself from every poker site I have ever signed up to, for life. This will be my last post on P5s - I will now explain why. My hope is that many of you who read this will take something from my experience, both winners and losers. While I had dabbled with the game beforehand, my journey with online poker really began in 2008. I remember it vividly. I was at work – the restaurant I worked in was quiet and gloomy. I remember having a sudden rush of inspiration about poker. I became excited about studying the game to improve, in the hope that this might lead ...

Ok, NW. Your post seemed to suggest that 4betting 98s as a bluff was a joke, which confused me.

While that isn't really the point of this post, I'm never 4betting in this spot because: 1. This player was station. 2. It is very early in the the tournament, and I think a 4bet bluff is completely senseless at this stage with so little to win and no good reason (no dynamics, but even then!). As stated above, we have the stack and implied odds to call here but as this guy was stationy, it gave me even better implied odds as I feel this type of player is not 3betting light in this spot very often at all. Therefore if we hit, boom! Anyway, the flop brought me nothing so I made an easy fold.

TT BTN facing MP open from reg w/11bbs - range assignment?
Inter = 19/17 54hs. He had been really quiet for the previous 2 orbits. He had o/f once from EP to 15bb shove, but besides that he had done very little. When he opens here, he's not folding. KQo SB facing 11bb CO shove deep in MTT
Around 70 remain. Andrew = 38/38 11hs. He had called an 11bb BTN shove with AJ and got it in vs. KQ, and lost. Assuming that the BB (16/16 32hs) folds, we need 42% here to call. I have narrowed his range slightly as we are so deep into the tournament: equity win tie pots won pots tied Hand 0: 45.703% 43.89% 01.82% 3811349028 157871062.00 { KQs, KQo } Hand 1: 54.297% 52.48% 01.82% 4557714736 157871062.00 { 22+, A2s+, K8s+, QTs+, JTs, A2o+, KJo+, QJo, J7o } I like to consider all options: FOLD: I don't think folding is terrible. Questions on volume...
While I'm not being formally coached, I review HHs with a friend of mine who turned pro a couple of years ago, so I think I have all the resources to keep improving. Like many things, I feel it comes down to hard work and persistence, and I'm committed to this. I find that I can play optimally on 5/6 tables, and still be able to keep up with my image, gameflow, table dynamics etc. Any more than that and it's just asking too much if I want to play my best. As far as duration goes, I don't think I can put in a 20+ hour session and be playing solid throughout, so I tend to play at times ...

Questions on volume...
I'm interested to know from people of varying abilities how much volume you put in per week, and how frequently you make FTs. I know this will vary considerably from those playing at micros (such as myself) compared to those at the mid/high stakes. I feel that I am currently playing better than ever, while also working very hard to improve all the time, but I am aware that it can still take a long time for this to translate into any results (especially as I don't put in a lot of volume). I can't be sure that I am playing winning poker, I can only keep working hard and remain confident ...

JJ 34bbs OOP facing CO 3b + BTN cold 4b shove 23bbs
Apologies - I was in a shitty mood at the time. You make some good points regarding my post. I simply meant that I had been active, and therefore we could open arsenal's range a little bit. Also, regarding 39% - you are completely right. My action is not the last, so this isn't actually what we may need. Haven't encountered a spot like this too many times. I just gave them too little credit, because generally I give them too much! There's not really any dynamics here to be confident that our perceived range is wide when we open. Arsenal had not 3bet me before. Lucky had not been active. For ...

AK 31bbs @A73 facing flop min raise from stationy type player 4-way
Do you think he will ever be bluffing here' Sure I know some players do very weird unpredictable things but it is genuinely worth considering in this spot' However I do agree with you regarding flop and turn play, if we are not folding we want to make sure the money goes in so a call is a decent option here.

AK 31bbs @A73 facing flop min raise from stationy type player 4-way
70 players or so remain. I have been quiet for the last orbit since the villain joined. GMS = 69/19 16hs. I had tracked his action before this hand and he had been very stationy, limping wide pre and generally playing very honest post flop. Is everyone happy to stick in here and say 'bad luck' if we run into a two pair/set' His range on the flop is pretty narrow - no real draws on the board - he either has a set, top pair, or two pair. My guess is that a set is perhaps a little less likely as I expect him to just flat here sometimes. This type of player I expect to raise two pairs ...

I had tracked his action before this hand and he had been very stationy, limping wide pre and generally playing very honest post flop. AA 150bbs OOP facing flop MR from tight player - turn and river play?
I think 2 pair is in his range, I'm not saying this is his hand. Arguably his range is quite strong here (of course, not knowing much about the player he could be doing something stupid/weird here as well), but I don't see how we can just snap fold to a MR w/AA here. I posted this HH to get ideas about turn/river play.

AA 150bbs OOP facing flop MR from tight player - turn and river play?
Very early on in the tournament, and I haven't done much so far. vik = 9/6 32hs We are not folding to the flop raise, but I wanted to discuss our plan for the turn and river. Clicking back the flop seems pretty bad - if he comes over the top again we can't be ahead and have created an gross situation. Should we be just playing the hand passive from here onwards and just re-evaluting the turn/river cards' My guess is his range here is TPGK, 2P, TTs, 44s, though this play may not even raise top pair here.
