Re(2): Superstitious Poker "superstitions can make someone feel more comfortable and play better, so if that's the case, then why not' :)" Yeah, they can work like that, a Zen type approach. Chan describes how he started with his orange, initially using it to try and overcome the smokey atmosphere of the cardroom and try and relax. Many habits aren't actually superstitious, they are just there to provide the calming of a routine. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(5): Superstitious Poker Heh, those are some nice ones. Four is bad luck in chinese culture (and one other asian culture) oweing to the fact that it's the same as their word for death, one two three death five six.... On another note, how much do you think it'd cost to ship a few dozen decks of used cards to New Zealand' :-P Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): Superstitious Poker that you might have seen at poker tables/casinos in general I'm not expecting a whole bunch of people to spring forth with all of their own superstitions necessarily, just wanted to get a few anecdotal accounts of ones that people have seen along the ways, be it from those weak players opposite them, or that they noticed walking past the blackjack table sometime. That being said, the urinal thing is funny. Sports rituals have a history in being overly long and involved... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Superstitious Poker Yeah, something that's in the general literature about superstition is that most of the widely held ones have a very low investment value, so even if there is nothing to be gained from them the potential payoff outweighs the very minor requirement of taking part - for example knocking on wood. It doesn't take much effort and what if it actually does something' I agree that in poker this can be a bad thing, like chasing because you 'just felt' a certain card was coming up, or the ultimate no-no, the gambler's fallacy, simply put "I've lost so many times in a row, the next one MUST be gonna go ... Superstitious Poker Hi guys, thanks in advance for any comments. I'm a postgraduate psychology student (also and avid poker player, PLO and MTTs are my thing) and I'm currently preparing a paper on superstition and gambling. Gambling is one area in which superstition is rife, simply by the very nature of superstitious behaviour as something that develops originally by inferring cause and effect between two events simply because they are followed closely in time. What I'd most like, in a purely selfish way, is some great examples of specific superstitious behaviours that you might have seen at poker ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): OMG?!?! YOU LIKED THE LAST ONE THIS ONE IS 83957894x WORSE! I just can't beleive how many people take him seriously, and they seem to be getting all offended. People that have never posted before chip in to tell him that he was making a bad play. I guess that it might be the first time where they've actually been able to rub their two brain cells together and figure out that this is bad play... I should take note of who these people are and try and find them on the tables, not that the conversation at those tables would be amusing, judging by their fantastic sense of humour... Damned PartyPoker! Yeeeesh, Has anyone else outside the US ever had problems cashing out of Party Poker' I decided on a whim to make a minimum deposit there just for fun. I played my $50 long enough to get my $15 bonus and then requested my $87 payout ;-) cause I decided it was an awful awful place. Anywho... 3 weeks later I finally get my cheque in the mail (I live in New Zealand) from a bank in England, post marked France (yeeeesh!). Long story short, my bank didn't like the cheque because it was a bank trying to issue a cheque in a currency other than it's own. After relaying all the documentation PP ... Re(3): What are the best bonuses/gifts for new players? About as hard as UB, maybe a little bit slower. You get points paid dependant on the rake ans it get's paid out in $5 increments. If you want REALLY easy bonuses, try partypoker, it's a cakewalk. You can go to a table and fold every single hand and walk away with a decent profit from the rake. I've found most of the joint casino type outfits to be a little shady, well, I haven't got their software to work very often. Haven't had any problem earning back the bonus anywhere yet though. Is there anywhere out there that is ridiculous' How about the 100% bonus at fulltiltpoker' I haven't actually ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Heads Up with Krazy Kanuck Ummm, did UB get his name wrong then' That sucks. : As you might expect with a handle like his, KrazyKanuck (or James Worth as he’s known to momma) lives in Canada -- Toronto to be exact -- where he recently sold a coffee company to devote himself full-time to poker. Last summer he finished second to TJ Cloutier in the $1000 pot limit hold’em event at the Bellagio. Posted in: Bad Beats |

Re(3): why on earth cant i win a mtt?!? Have to agree, with so many limpers on the flop, you need to make it expensive, I'd probably raise to at least 100 chips preflop, thin it out. Your moron, I mean opponent, probably at that stage would have only called. Make the flop really expensive and he might call, hopefully by the turn he'd have the idea and fold to your all-in. Sure he may just be a dumbass and call anyways, which is technically to your advantage as you have the lead, but in this case he won and it was bad, in general I prefer to make my opponents back away, to take steady but decent pots and grow at a rate consistent ... Re(3): tagging players Bingo, notes = servers, dots = local... I use UB on two comps, and when I first started using the second I noticed there weren't any dots and when I opened to check, bingo, there were my notes! I can't remember if it re-instated the dot colour when I opened the notes or I just changed them. Go to an internet cafe and check it out or if you want to make sure, just add the colour into your notes. I don't tend to use a huuge graduation in the colours, people are either Red - Danger Will Robinson, and I have notes that describe their play, or they're green, and my notes generally just say 'here ... Re(4): Heads Up with Krazy Kanuck He makes plenty of conspiracy posts that if sarcastic really lack the well rounded approach of something actually humorous. I know that the rake will go up with more action, but in the long run, terrible bad beats that break someone send them packing, for good. Ultimately they would be better off to let people pass little bits of money back and forth, keeps everyone happy and in the game... Posted in: Bad Beats |
