UB Winter Games Event Tonight (2/15) Is the winter games event the $100+9 at 740 EST' I do know how to read, and that is what the schedule on UB's website says, but I'm just making sure. Monday night, the event on UB's website was said to be a PLO event when in fact it was a Limit 8/B tournament. Thanks Checkitdown Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): UB Winter Games Points Hi TeeTee, I'm the unknown that's in second place, but I don't think that can be right since there have been five events (I think), and anyone that won those first 3 events would be ahead of me. I donked my way into a 7th place finish in the 8/B on Monday night, so my point total is definitely a fluke, lol. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Addiction or Hobby? What determines whether poker has become an addiction, or if it remains a hobby in someone's life' I can say with certainty that I'm not addicted to poker, but for a few weeks when I continually lost money, I questioned my motives. This is an article I posted in my blog about a week ago, and it was the first time I was actually honest with myself in regards to my poker habits. Before these past 3 months, I never really understood what poker players meant by being in a funk for more than a week. In the year and a half of playing, I'd never experienced any sort of long term losing streak. ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

bad etiquette or illegal? I have a friend who plays live a lot, and he had a hand come up tonight that I am curious about. The game was 4/8 limit, he had 15 bucks left, and he gets AA. Four others are in the hand, and after a few raises, my friend is all in preflop with the four other players who still have money in front of them. My friend then decides to flip his cards before the flop comes with the 4 players still in the hand. My question is, is flipping your cards over at this point a legal move' I know it's at least bad etiquette, but I want to know if his hand should be ruled dead or not. I feel like there's ... Facing a Reraise I forgot to save the actual hand history, but I'll try to recreate it the best that I can. Here's the situation: I'm in 10th out of 19 or 20 in a UB $30 tourney. I started this hand with about 22000 chips. The blinds are 800/1600, I'm on the button. It gets folded to me, and I'm holding Q 10 off. I raised to 4800, and the big blind, who has about 44000, ponders for a few seconds and comes over the top of me with a reraise of 4800 more. I have no idea what to do here... I'll tell you what I did do, and that's call, and fold immediately after a flop of A 7 8 comes. There was so much in the ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Poker For Profession: What Do Our Families Think?? My dad is still convinced that my luck is going to turn for the worse any day now..... I've been a fairly consistent winner for over a year, but that bad luck streak is just around the corner according to him. I think it makes both my parents angry that I can sit on my butt all day and make more than they did with 8 hours of hard labor. They have stopped trying to convince me that poker is a bad habit, though, because they know their opinions are falling on deaf ears. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(4): Betting when a player is all in I wonder if I was just kind of blinded by the fact that his play actually worked in this case. I also think that sometimes when you get to be really short stacked, you go in with hands that aren't exactly premium, because you don't really have the luxury of waiting for that kind of hand before the blinds eat you up. I am seeing your point Gabovitch, and while I'm starting to agree with you, I still have a couple doubts. In the long run, I'm sure it is a losing play, but in this situation, when both players checked until the river, the eventual bettor had to know the other guy didn't have ... Re(2): Betting when a player is all in I guess you learn something every day..... Although I do disagree to an extent with the comment of bawa "the main objective is to eliminate players" My main objective is to win. If I only eliminate one player in the tournament and I win it, that's infinitely better than eliminating 20 players and finishing second in my eyes. I guess since winning at all costs is my mindset, betting into a dry sidepot when I think the other player not all in has me beat, I guess I'd consider doing it. I've thought about it, and I can't remember ever betting into a dry sidepot without a made hand, but that ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Betting when a player is all in I had a hand come up today that I was not involved in, but found interesting anyway. With about 60 people left in the tourney, top 20 paying, this scenario came up: One player went all in when the blinds were 50/100 for probably 600. He got two callers. The flop was 778. The other two players check. Turn is a 2. Checks. The river is another 8, and ther shorter stack player bets big, the other player folds. The shorter stack shows Ace high, along with the all in player, so they chop the pot. The player that folded got mad at the river bettor, saying it was a stupid play to bet, because "you ... Question for successful tournament players I play in a lot of tournaments and always find myself eeking into the money. I always get a pretty decent stack early, then l let it dwindle and make it into the bottom of the money. I'm sick of it, and want to get a few wins under my belt. That being said, my question is, when do you start trying to really steal some blinds, get aggressive, and accumulate some chips' If the tournament structure is like the structure on UB, when would you turn up the heat' I'm sure it always depends, but I'd like to get some input on general tournament strategy, specifically, when to start getting ... Turbo Tourneys on UB What's your opinion of them' I personally liked their tournament schedule more when they didn't have turbo tourneys. The turbo's are an all-in fest after the first hour, and it seems that UB is putting more and more turbos out there each day. Less and less of UB's tournaments are catering to skill. I don't claim to be an extremely skilled player, but I don't like feeling obligated to push all-in with A2 off late in a turbo tourney. Let me know what you think. -checkitdown Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Playing against an inexperienced field I was just recently in a live tournament through the American Legion with about 215 others. My guess is that about 30-40% of the field could count the number of times he/she had played poker on one hand. In this tournament I saw people calling with A 2 when the blinds were half their stack, and I saw them fold to a bet on the flop that was about 1/20th of the pot. My question is, how do you adapt your style against players that have played very rarely, players that are very bad, and players that have a case of beer in them' I tightened up my game considerably and check raised like it was ... Re(1): Getting back on track Thanks for the posts all, I think I'm gonna take a couple weeks off and regroup. First off, the Rocky III line was perfect, what a great movie. Secondly, in reply to a reply, I currently have the bankroll, but don't want to lose much more of that bankroll, because I have other things to pay for. I can afford to lose that money, but I shouldn't lose it, let's just put it that way. Thanks again for the replies -Checkitdown Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Getting back on track A little over a month ago, I won a 17K guaranteed tourney on UB, and ever since that time, I've been in a freefall. I've been on a consistent losing streak, and if I have won anything, I seem to give it right back. My thought is since i have a bankroll to work with, I might have changed my game a little bit (taking more chances, becoming more aggressive). I also feel like I may be more impatient because since I've got a win, I need to win at everything I play now, whether it be a table, sit and go, or MTT. My question is, what can I do to get back to my old, more solid, tight way of play' ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Best Tournament Blind Structure This topic has probably been posted before, I just missed it. I'm aware that the slower the blind increase, the more the tournament caters to skill, so I was just wondering, which site do you think has the best tournament structure in regards to catering to skill' I've been playing on UB for quite some time now, and I do like their structure the best. I've tried Full Tilt, and I really like their structure as well, but I think the Antes increase a little too rapidly for my taste late in the tourneys. Runner Runner I really don't like posting on this part of the website, because dwelling on my bad beats isn't something I think is particularly healthy for my game, but this one just angers me. It isn't the odds of this bad beat that get me, it's the willingness to throw money in a pot with nothing that gets me. Here goes..... I get AK in middle position at a .50/1 NL table, 2 limpers in front of me. I bet 5.50, 2 callers. The flop is . I feel like I have a stranglehold on this hand right now. I bet 5, hoping someone will have hit the king as well, or will think I'm just taking a stab at the pot. One ... Posted in: Bad Beats |

QQ Under The Gun How do you play QQ under the gun in a cash game' I never really thought it was much of a decision until today when I had them utg and raised 3 times the big blind. I ended up winning the blinds, which was just fine with me. One of my friends says to me after I told him I had QQ, "nice take, but I don't like the raise." His opinon about QQ in a low limit game under the gun is simply limp in, and slowplay. He expects a raise to come with someone eventually, and then he will reraise when it gets back around to him. I might do this with AA, possibly even KK, but not QQ, at least not very ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): To fold or not to Fold I personally think your logic was dead on in this situation. I know very few people that would go all in with aces under the gun. The one thing that I thought I would add to the discussion is the fact that knowing your opponent in this situation can only help your decision. If this was a player you knew nothing about, definitely go for it with the KK, you'll be right exponentially more than you'll be wrong. If you know something about him/her, though, ie: he is very tight/very loose, he regularly goes all in with monsters , it can only aid in your decision. I'm sure that 99 times out of 100 ... Re(2): AK preflop in multi tourney I agree with you to a certain extent Jeff. The part I agree with you on is the fact that I am more fearful of a limp than a min raise. The part I don't agree with is your statement of the standard reraise. If he makes this raise, he'll have 1600-1900 chips left. If a reraise after his reraise is made, the best he can figure himself in is a coin flip, and it's more likely that the re-reraiser has AA or KK. If he folds this hand, there is always a chance that he can double up and be right back where he is. If he goes all in and loses, he's done. I guess what I'm saying is, I don't think it's ... Re(1): AK preflop in multi tourney Personally, I'm extra careful when someone from UTG is in the pot. When playing UTG, the starting hand usually is, or at least should be, very strong, because many players are still yet to act. I don't hate the reraise here, but you put 3100 into the pot to win 700. Maybe a smaller reraise is in order, and then when you get reraised by AA at a tight table , you still have chips with which to make a decision about whether to play or fold with. If the table was tight, then a reraise of maybe 800 or so would have accomplished the same thing as your all in was trying to do. Chances are a tight ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Advice on a hand - Yup, feel like a fish I'm not an expert by any means, but I think your postflop play was alright. You say you thought for sure the person was trying to bluff you....gotta go with the instincts. If the big blind just called, he/she could have any number of hands, and one would think that if AA or KK was one of them, he/she would have reraised. Once you eliminate those hands, the ONLY hand that can beat you is the case J: that is very unlikely to be in the player's hand. The only change in your play postflop would be not to raise all in, just reraise him the min again, or maybe a little more, this way, if he ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Handling a maniac (at the poker table) Hi all, I'm new to the site, and just thought I'd throw something out to all of you. I was playing in a sit and go earlier tonight on UB, and it got down to 3 handed. I was up against someone who would raise preflop and bet the pot postflop about 90% of the time. I eventually prevailed, but I don't think it was because I outplayed him/her. I had a very hard time adjusting to the style, because I had never seen anyone quite like him/her. I want to know how you all handle a person like that, and I'll tell you what my dilemma is. 1. If I wait for the nuts, I could get blinded out. 2. If I pick ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |
