My Well: P0KERPR033
Great well so far. Although I’m only a part time grinder, I’ve been playing online to various extents since around 2003 or 2004 and used to play with you quite a bit on UB back in the day. Glad to see you’ve had so much success because you’ve always seemed like a stand up guy. A few questions: 1. Any advice for a part-time grinder who is a capable, but not spectacular, player looking to improve (other than training videos)' 2. What do you think the most common leaks are in midstakes players’ games' 3. What are the biggest differences in terms of your style of ...

Bodog is going to block SS, pokerDB other sites... and HUDS. who is next?
I don't entirely agree with this. Although many true randoms don't know what a HUD is and are probably more worried about the sites being rigged, I have friends that play recreationally in live games and used to play online a good amount circa 2004-2006. Several of them have said something like "I heard everyone who plays online nowadays uses software to give them stats on other players' games." This is one of the few reasons cited for not playing online anymore (others being lack of time, perceptions regarding inability to get $ on and off sites, etc.) There is definitely a subset of people ...

P0KERPR033's Results on 1/24
Didn't see a thread about this, so if this is a re-post I appologize... I was looking at P0KERPR033's results because he is third in the monthly PLB and noticed that he had 20 cashes on Monday January 24th, including $74k for a win in FTP $150k guaranteed! I know that everyone is playing mad volume because of FTP METs, and that big scores (like the $74k) are what really matter, but 20 cashes in a day seems crazy! Congrats on the score man!

Playing backed or on your own dime?
It seems to me like there are several factors that play into OP’s BR management question and that the correct answer varies depending on individual circumstances. For example, the following factors are all very important to determining an appropriate BR for a specific person: 1. Average Buy-in- pretty self explanatory, the larger your ABI, the more you need 2. Buy-in Range- two players with the same ABI may need different BRs depending on their buy-in range. For example (ignoring rake for simplicity), someone w/ ABI of $60 playing half $20s and half $100s will need a larger BR than ...

Thanks for the 411! I didn't know about this either. Only $100 for me since I'm a low volume part-time player, but $100 is better than nothing...

ITT I try to figure out how many MTTS is a good sample size
Great post. Thanks for sharing. Question for m_hawk_1: Your post from a couple years ago gave the best and worst case scenarios for the 100 players over each sample size. Do you by any chance also have the profit/loss percentages for each sample size (e.g. at 1000 tournaments, 80% of the winning players showed a profit while 20% were down, etc)' Not that it's overly relevant, I'm just curious because I like to think about these things.

Best 30" monitor
I currently have two 20" Dells (1600 x 1200) and a generic Acer desktop, all of which I bought back in 2004-2005. I am considering an upgrade to my setup. I prefer playing w/ the tables as close to the default table size as possible, which means I prefer only playing 8 tables at a time right now (will play up to 12 at times though). My understanding is that default table size is 800 x 580, so you should be able to get 9 tables at close to default size on a 30" 2560 x 1600, correct' If so, I'm thinking about getting a 30" to replace one of my 20" monitors and playing 13 tables at default or ...

Help with shoving range and opponent's calling range
About 190 left in this with 170ish getting paid. No reads on villian. Keeping in mind that this is a $50 tournament (not a $100r where table dynamics are much different), what do you think about the following' 1. What should my shoving range be here' 2. What do you think his calling range is if I 3-bet shove' PokerStars Game #39144320929: Tournament #283010682, $50+$5 USD Hold'em No Limit - Level X (300/600) - 2010/02/02 19:43:55 ET Table '283010682 17' 9-max Seat #2 is the button Seat 1: patinho77 (13932 in chips) Seat 2: Cotchery89 (11509 in chips) Seat 3: KingOHammer (43250 ...

Re:MTT Sample size for determining ROI.
They should keep stats for top 5% and even top 1%. That's obviously where all the money is and these stats would be more meaningful than just top 10%. You can have a high percentage of top 10% finishes but still lose money because you have too many mini-cashes due to always having a short stack late. Being able to compare your top 10% numbers with top 1% numbers would help illustrate whether your play in early and mid stages of the tournament is optimal (i.e. if you are getting decent size stacks enough). I realize you can look at early and mid finishing percentages to help determine the ...

Re:So I saw the hangover
CLASSIC! There were def more funny parts than the trailers. Zack Galifianakis pretty much made the movie. He was hilarious in literally every scene. One of the best comedic performances ever. I also agree that the asian druglord/gangster character sucked. Worst part of the movie by far. The scene when they were in the car talking about masturbating on an airplane and he calls someone a "ra-tard" had me in tears. Obv the end was also hilarious. I might go see it again in the theater.

Re:Sigh...Do my Buckeyes have any chance next weekend against USC?
Huge OSU fan here. They don't have much of a chance IMO. Hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it happening. O-line looked terrible, Boeckman looked terrible, the receivers looked terrible, the D looked terrible on 3rd down and against mobile QB. Back-up RBs didn't look good either. I saw the line at USC -4.5 yesterday. What do you think it goes to after this game' Like USC -9.5' More'''

Re(7): Green Plastic blog
jackaaron- I would still join if you were seriously thinking about it. I was a member of both cardrunners and PXF awhile back, and both were well worth the money IMO. The only reason I am no longer a member of either is because I barely play poker anymore due to being in law school and working 2 jobs. Hopefully I'll get to play more in the future, in which case I will probably rejoin. Just my 2 cents.
