refrence material for game profitability? been looking at some of my local games and would like to analyze the structures. Anyone know of a place (or have the info) where I could see an example of a game broken down' (hands per hour, roi, rake, stack size, etc.) Posted in: Live Poker |

Recently got laid off, is trying to become a live pro inadequate? dont underestimate the mind numbing effect playing one had at a time can have on you after your 40+ hours, if it doesn't bother you and you keep your money straight, AND you have enough sample size to know your a legit winner at those games then I think you could pull it off, though 1k a week depends on how many hours your willing to play. The single most important factor in succeeding is how you manage your money, by far. Posted in: Live Poker |

live plo structure & bankroll requirements input Since black Friday I have been, as many U.S. players have, dealing with the rule changes and different structure of live play. I have been playing mostly plo at the 1/1 level, the game gets really big for a 1\1 game towards the end of the night and I love it but its only spread on Fridays. There is another game that runs a few times a week but I'm not sure what sort of bankroll I would need as its a new structure. Any thoughts on the game described below, or on bankroll requirements for live plo (or any plo!) would be much appreciated. The game: blinds are 1/2 min 200 buyin max 500. There is ... International Stadium Poker Tour - ISPT - US$ 30MM gtd I doubt they will sell tickets until the final table, like the wsop final... I know some of the Euro stadiums get up there and could handle 30k players and fans but it would be a logistical nightmare. you could set it up like railing online where there are "tables" up on the big screen but who's going to pay for that' at the final they will probably set it up like a boxing match, putting bleachers\chairs in the lawn with the last table\tables elevated on a stage or sunken at one end with a temporary grandstand closing it in. Do all casino's have this ridiculous rule?? I've noticed that table draw (getting at the good table because they always balance) is huge in how my night goes. I do a few things to help increase my chances. The floor is there often enough he knows who the fish are and walks around enough to know what table I want to be at so I made it a point to get to know all of them, I always say hello, and If I have a big night I tip them as I'm leaving. obv they are under no obligation to help but I seem to be getting better tables than I did when I first started. fwiw... I always ask the desk for a game, say hello to the floor, and if I don't ... Posted in: Live Poker |

was i greedy??or should i chop - serious opinions most people play because they enjoy the game and I assumed that was your main reason for being there. I mean I figured you werent there to light your money on fire, lol. what I meant was that you weren't grinding these for a living, should have worded that differently. Posted in: Live Poker |

was i greedy??or should i chop - serious opinions yea DKyan I didnt want to assume that you weren't doing that because there are tons of ways to get to that spot and I don't remember reading any mention of your table image at the time. It is a big leak for a lot of people so i thought it warranted mentioning. I hope you weren't in any way offended, that wasn't my intention. Posted in: Live Poker |

was i greedy??or should i chop - serious opinions once you learn push\fold you realize just how bad people are at it. if your are very good at it and they are very bad at it then you have what I consider a "huge edge" however since this is a relative statement it cannot be validated or invalidated in regards to this particular tournament without additional info, which we cant come close to having. you cant possibly know the profitability of a mtt without more information. you would need to know all kinds of factors but mostly you need to know the structure, the rake, and the frequency of the mtt. Your assuming that this is an awful ... Posted in: Live Poker |

was i greedy??or should i chop - serious opinions That has been my point entirely. In the non bolded part, it seems you are arguing that a 60$ tournament at a B&M is "theoretically profitable". Theoretically, I think this would be the least profitable tournament of any tournament that I can think of(except all in or folds at commerce, bike, etc). Terrible players play terrible structures because they can actually compete in that tournament. The good player's edge decrease as the blinds increase(that being quickly in this tourney). The answer isn't likely no, IT IS NO. And why do you doubt that was his intention' Do I think he's a 60$ B And ... Posted in: Live Poker |

was i greedy??or should i chop - serious opinions amateur players are more subject to bubble fear and will fold much more than they should, thats where your profit is. The blind speed is a factor your going to be taking into account if your any good at P\F, you will have an edge. There will be higher variance in this mtt but if your familiar with the style it can be theoretically profitable assuming the rake isnt awful which it probably is. The question here is can he play enough of them to make up for the higher variance, can he get a good enough rake to be profitable, and is he going to be maxing out his hourly rate. The answer is likely ... Posted in: Live Poker |

was i greedy??or should i chop - serious opinions There are huge edges to be had at less than 20bb's... that's what push fold is. take turbo's as evidence, if you also consider that live players play less tournaments and are by definition less experienced in the final stages of an mtt most former online grinders would have a distinct advantage and should be hesitant to chop. Considering extended Vegas trip, any tips? just kicking this around but I'm thinking about taking a month or two and heading to vegas, anyone have any tips on the best place to stay if your going to be on an extended trip' They have to have long term discounts right' I'm playing mostly low level no limit hold-em and plo so i don't expect to get a super amount of comps. I would probably put in a bout 60-70 hrs at the tables a week. I'm guessing I'll have to call around to get exact prices but hoping you guys can help with suggestions on what the best places to check for extended stay rate cuts would be. ***btw life bills (including ... 1/2 Live Play what your really looking for is called a confidence interval and you can google that till your hearts content but you'll still have questions. from what I know you are generally looking to get to a confidence level of about 95% to be "certain" but its going to be different for ever player. there are numbers thrown around like 10K, 25k, or even 50k hands to get close to your 95% confidence level. first we have to translate your hours into hands, because no one works with hours in confidence intervals. conventional wisdom says your going to average somewhere around 25-30 hands per hour live, ... Is it possible to play drunk and still play well at the same time?? (live) depends on how good you are, and how drunk you are, and how you handle alcohol but you'll never be better drunk than you are sober. there may be a point where a shot or two helps you loosen up and help out your aggression levels. Flip a coin for a double stack live? Thats a well articulated article and he clearly has an excellent understanding of tournament math. That said I think its a bit shallow as he dismiss bankroll considerations with a generic "don't play then." A year ago, particularly with the health of the online game, I completely agree. In our current environment with the inherent limitations of live poker these mtt's might represent the places you can find the largest edge, with real money considerations it becomes a completely different question. I think we as an industry tend to forget sometimes that in the end poker is about money not ... Posted in: Live Poker |

Flip a coin for a double stack live? Gags hit it on the head (with the stack size adv.) but theres also the reverse of that. If you saw the interview one of the winning poker tournaments one hand at a time guys was talking about this not long ago. In live poker there is a opportunity cost associated with getting knocked out of the biggest tournaments. Online we dont have this because there is a similar tournament always just around the corner and if you have the drive you can play a million of them in your life time. In a tournament with a great structer like the main event, assuming you hold a significant edge over the field, ... Posted in: Live Poker |

wow Phil be more of a douche tbh I think rast was the douche here. "no matter what happens I trapped him, if he gets there I trapped him" The taunting was absolutely uncalled for and nothing else had even been said at that point. I hate Phil and he was def passive aggressive but I've seen much much worse. either way he was wrong too, but I think that's just him being him, we know he's a pos already. Posted in: Live Poker |

Poker etiquette question... no, there are times when keeping a short stack around is beneficial to you. I'm thinking mainly of single table sit and go strategy but the bottom line is if you can make a case that it helped you in some way then its not collusion its just good strategy. if your doing it because "he's my buddy" that's a different story all together. this brings up another valid point, if you can check blind why cant you raise blind' IDK if thats legal or not but I do know that the shover gave the HJ additional information, so he actually helped him out. would HJ been upset if he crushed the flop and all he ...
