Re(1): double stack 180 mans on stars would be nice i was daydreaming about a stars tourney that had no blind increases (like the heads up ones) but they took a rake equivalent to the one they would take at a cash game... i don't know how it would end up looking but i had fun picturing the different scenarios. no way they'd ever do this because it's not a good idea to begin with.. and they wouldn't want to advertise how much they're raking so blatantly :p Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(6): Stars support?..think this is worth an email to them? also, i use and abuse pokerstars support. i've sent them at least a dozen emails over the years about a wide range of issues and they've always been great. response time has slowed a bit from its peak but it's still the best by far. i've probably wasted a bit of their time, to be honest, but i've also sent them emails just to thank them for doing such a great job. of all the sites i've played on, they've got the best support. Re(5): Stars support?..think this is worth an email to them? the only way to scam pokerstars or "take advantage" that i can see is if you had another horse in the race, so to speak. a buddy also in the sngs, that was going to play it through... but this isn't very realistic. if you disco and have no chance of winning you aren't really going to gain much. you're just not going to lose your money... same as if you never played at all. Re(2): proportion of winning players vs losing players hmm yeah this confirms my thought... something tells me sklansky knew what he was talking about when he quoted 5%... but this was pre-internet era and casinos rape you with the rake so maybe that is really the difference maker. Re(3): Question for high buyin players??? don't be surprised when you preface your question with "be honest because we'll know if you're a liar anyway" you might end up with a smart ass answer. i'd guess that most high buyin players started with $50 and build up slowly over a few decades implementing a conservative bankroll management regime and experiencing the expected level of luck. Re(3): proportion of winning players vs losing players i dunno about .5%... i'm a (very) modestly winning player and i wouldn't consider myself better that 199 out of 200 people. maybe 19 out of 20, but i'm definitely not *THAT* good. :) Posted in: Poker Discussion |

proportion of winning players vs losing players i've got poker tracker and i've used it on and off over a few years, never for a real extended period of time. and i've had multiple computers and operating installs, so there hasn't really been much continuity of dbs. so the sample sizes are relatively low. anyway, whenever i've looked under the summary it seems like 60% are losing and 40% are winning... is this about right over the long run' i remember reading in one of sklansky's books that really only 5% are winning/solvent players, so this seems really odd to me. just wondering if any players with a larger sample can enlighten me. Re(3): $3000 bankroll strategy i used to act like that before i got "serious" (i'm still a low limit player, and i'll likely be one for quite some time, but i'm not taking excessive risks annymore)... there's nothing wrong with it if you're doing it for fun but it's definitely nothing close to "proper" bankroll management. check out fox's bankroll management page. follow the minimum guidelines there and if you've got potential you likely won't go broke. although there is a chance! a great limit player isn't immune to 100-200BB downswings... so as your bankroll becomes more valuable (ie, it would be more painful to rebuild ...
