Re:ADVICE NEEDED ON RUNNING BAD
So you basically had one winning year at cash games (2008), which could easily just have been rungood because playing live means so many fewer hands/hour than online. The long run is veryyyy long (especially in laggy HE games) and even proven great players have horrible, mind shattering downswings. My advice is find out what game you are best at, work to get even better at it, and then play it vs. players who have no business putting chips into the pot most of the time.

Re:Razz the new game to play?
There is actually much less variance in razz than in other more popular games. This is because it's often clear who had the best hand on a given street so there's much less raising. It also means that it takes fewer hands to be almost assured a profit when you're a good player and your downswings should be much smaller. As for tilt, that's your own problem.

That's why otherwise good poker players have no excuse for how badly they usually play it.

Re:Need a new direction and looking for real advice
It's a good theory, but I know plenty of good stud players who are meciocre at stud/8 and downright awful at razz. The mechanics of the stud games are the same, but there are no shortcuts to learning these other games.

Re:Razz advice?
You can certainly play it for serious money if you're a good player, or even to augment your income as a professional, but it would be difficult to play exclusively as a professional player. There just isn't enough consistent action at the limits you'd need to play, and the variance goes up at the higher stakes tables since players there tend to be looser and more aggressive. Playing as many tables as you intend to, you may have a tough time keeping track of the upcards which can skew you reads and the maths as well, reducing your edge (presuming you have one). Your BR of 200 BB ...

Re:To all the one trick donkey no limit players!
ok, let's take it down a notch shall we boys' I think a lot of players underestimate HORSE and other games when all they know is nlhe, but if you watch top NLHE players in their prime, whether Doyle, Stu Ungar, durrrr, gigabet, etc, you have to give them (and the game) their props. And btw, I'd take some serious action on ryon in the 50k HORSE....

Re:Razz hand.. bad fold?
You should learn then. It's not that hard, and can be quite profitable.

Re:high stakes HORSE - Razz hand - calling with A2K in bring in
That's a very good read for most players, even though by 6th st there is only one 2 left in the deck for Duck to have. With a solid read like that, TT played the hand well but in a potentially exploitable way. As long as he keeps playing vs. Duck, that probably won't be a problem

Looks like TT put him on A2 in the hole as well. Both of these players illustrate why razz can be such a profitable game.

Re:Is this a shark at micro stakes Razz?
TY sir. From time to time I like to drop a tip about razz to my friends on p5's. I have one that says if you were capable of using the search function yourself, you'd have already found several threads on razz without a post from me.

Re:Is this a shark at micro stakes Razz?
That may be true for this guy, but lots of very successful HE players will sit down at a high limit razz table (or other "other" game) and try to learn on the fly. Some are conservative and open up their game as they pick up a feel for it, but others spew like a garden hose :D

Re:Razz help? Hand from tonites 4k Horse on FTP
Actually Bax does play razz, he just doesn't play it all that well. He FT'd the WSOP razz event a few years ago, but freely admitted to not knowing what he was doing. Since then I've played vs. him a few times in online tournaments and it didn't look like he improved very much. In fact, there are plenty of players on the p5's leaderboard (which of course is 99% HE based) who would admit they still have a lot to learn about razz. Of course, some think it's too simple a game to bother learning in depth, but if they ever play it (or HORSE), they will eventually realize ...

The forum there has a lot of discussions on all stud games, and there are reviews of many books there (and in the books and publications forum too). Some coaching sites offer videos on these games now as well. GL to you and keep ridin' that HORSE.

Doesn't seem like he has that hard a time finding action when the games are running, unless he is looking for HU. The games at his limit just don't run that regularly. Incredible achievement tho, gg yuvee.
