$50+5 satty to the FTP Sunday Brawl
11:30 EST, anyone play in this' How hard is it to get a seat' I won a seat to the satty, but don't know if I should play it or unregister. Problem is I am not very good at Turbo's. The $14 game to win this seat was a Turbo also, but that game is a complete joke. Wondering if the $50 game is just as soft or not. I'd like to play in the SundayBrawl one time, but it's out of my bankroll range (we can discuss the bankroll merits of winning a seat and still playing it another time, I just want to play it once.) Play it or is it just a bad idea all the way around' Thanks for any ...

Re:Man, what is it about MTT's that no matter what you walk away pissed
I understand the posts about turning $5 buyin to $500, but still, the win was right there if that river doesn't fall that way. Think of it like this, if I win that hand the other person is in pretty bad shape and out in a few more hands. That makes the river 4 worth about $380 since second paid $880 or so. If it's about winning then thats why the four on the river sucked. If it's about the money then $380 is why the river sucked. It just seems like I shouldn't have been so upset to win $500 and thats why I posted this. Most disappointing $500 ever I guess.

Man, what is it about MTT's that no matter what you walk away pissed
Unless you win of course. Honestly, if you have read any of my posts recently (why should you') you would know I have been running horribly. I'm a low limit player and played the Early Doubles today, busted out of the B game getting near the bubble, went deep in the A game. Busted out third when we got it all in after an Ace hits the flop, me holding A 10 and other guy had A 4, when he rivered a 4 I wasn't thinking at all how making third is gonna help my roll that has been crushed lately, all I can think about is that million chip pot and surviving 1200+ players only to have that ...

Re:Not a bad beat thread, seriously wondering if I should give up
I have only played on-line for about 5 years now, but I just don't ever remember (live or on-line) running THIS bad. With the hands I have been dealt you hope and pray you can find enough retards to call and pay you off, but they keep having more miracle cards appear than Houdini recently. Frustrating doesn't begin to cover it. I honestly think last night was the first time I actually punched something out of frustration in over 10 years, these cards are sick.

Re:Not a bad beat thread, seriously wondering if I should give up
OK, then what are the odds of that 9th spin being Black on the roulette wheel' Are they still 50/50 (minun the green 0's) or does the player now have an enormous edge betting on red' I would say the odds are still 50/50 reguardless of what has happened previously so I should still be a 70/30 favorite with AA vs 22, right' NOW to further illustrate the point, what are the odds (using your example) of busting out of 4 games in a row holding a 70/30 edge when the chips go in'

Re:Not a bad beat thread, seriously wondering if I should give up
Maybe this is what I don't understand so well. When someone says they are going to bet on Red at the roulette wheel because the last 8 spins have been black people say it's a bad idea because the odds are still 50/50 as the wheel doesn't remember what came up last. Poker players on the other hand use examples like the one quoted to explain away variance. Reguardless of how many times I get it in with AA vs 22 shouldn't I still be just as big a favorite to win the hand instead of getting knocked out'

Not a bad beat thread, seriously wondering if I should give up
When you bust out of a tournament how often is it because you had the best hand when the chips went in and you got drawn out on' I kept track of the last 30 games I busted out of, which was 30 (go figure) and in 22 of them I was a big favorite, 4 of them I was a coin flip favorite (held the pair vs offsuit Ak/AQ), in 1 game I had the same hand as my opponent and he got four cards to a flush, the other three I chased draws that did not get there. Is this pretty standard or is God telling me to quit' the last four in a row were all two-outers on the flop (smaller pairs making a set). I just ...

Re:Stars
I very much believe this. Stars is a BUSINESS, an unregulated business in business to make money. They, like any business, will seek every avenue they can to make money. What is the risk of getting caught cheating your customers' People still play at UB after they got caught red-handed doing things you say would never happen. If you think Stars is completely honest, well, I can't change your mind and won't try. I'm just saying don't think just because they make all that honest money that they don't seek more on the side.

Re:Stars
I am not going to offer up proof that Stars is rigged, but this thinking is WAY off base. Greed is a horrible thing. Just because someone makes a shit ton of money does not mean they don't want to make a shit ton more. I mean, you'd never see something like that happen at UltimetBet, right' (/sarcasm of my own) Greed makes people do funny things. There is no way every card that Stars has dealt is completely random and on the up and up. They have restructured their payout schedule to make sure more donks have money in their accounts, don't you think they also toss them a card ...

Re:Who plays poker tourneys in Wheeling?
I play at Mountaineer almost every weekend and they have a nice $1000 buy-in deep stack every month. Satty's run each Friday and Saturday, probably more than that too. 1/2 NL cash games are soft, you just have to not get beat by the dealer basically and you can pay off your mortgage. I am a winning player there, and that says a lot.

Re:WHOSE HELP WOULD YOU SEEK IF YOU WERE AMONG THE NOVEMBER NINE?
Nobody. While I won't say the Main Event is a complete luckfest I will say that luck plays a MAJOR part in it. Nobody is "good enough" on skill alone to get there. I would think the final table will be a bit more about skill, but still. You are playing with limited knowledge against unpredictable opponents. The cards will decide it.

Re:1/2 live NL advice please
Maybe I am wrong here, but I think you are giving the other players too much credit. I don't think they bother to put you on a hand, they typically can't see past their own cards. To most of these players, pot odds be damned. I can't tell you how many times I have heard another player say "you can't fold a flush draw just because someone goes all-in". Umm, yea. This is in WV where there has been poker for less than a year, I am trying to wade through a mine field here. My biggest enemy at the table is the dealer.

1/2 live NL advice please
I'm not looking to crush the game, just really want to survive and have a chance to leavve a winner. I have a basic knowledge of the game, but look down after two hours and am stuck half a buy-in without really getting involved too much. Usually play tight, get AA of KK cracked and the night goes downhill from there. Now I realize you can't change someones game in a single post, but if you could off one or two pieces of basic advice to a losing player what would they be' Stuff like: Only play top 15 hands, don't chase draws, worry more about position than anything, etc..... I ...

Thanks. I am playing one now on FT and there were guys shoving 10K+ stacks with suited Aces and calling off their stack with gutshot and underpairs. I know we would all like 100K+, but 10K seemed like enough to get through the first hour. Wanted to be sure.

I know the answer is "as many as you can get", but how many chips do you try to get in the first hour' I guess a better question is how many chips do you pile up before you quit gambling and get back to playing solid poker' Thanks

On Full Tilt I bring up the lobby page for that tourney and wait for my name to appear on the "finished" list. On Stars I close my eyes (beat myself in the fucking head with a hammer for playing on that fucking site) and wait to hear the bling. No bling means I am still alive, I always hear the bling.

Re:Let's ALL send this letter to John McCain today. Thanks!
To all those who think this won't make a difference, please refer to the NRA. This is (or at least was) a bunch of rednecks who want to tote guns around in the back of their pick-m-up trucks. They are now a very powerful voice to politicians who KNOW they need that vote. I really don't care what your stance is on guns, the fact remains people (and not bright ones) can carry loaded weapons around because of these people, all we want is to play poker.
