Thanks and goodbye
Your last post was four years ago...which is like four decades in internet time! Your contributions will be missed! Of course you probably distracted some of the folks to take shots at you as opposed to the new guy, so congrats on that.

Any interest in picking a horse or 2 for the ftops 2 day(event40) or the main event?
I'm probably in, but can you explain exactly how the winner is determined' I thought I saw last-longer, which is fine but that wouldn't require much effort to calculate the winner.

Online players/live players...give me some ideas
Agree that bad beat jackpots are generally a good thing for casual players....kind of like the stories that get passed around about slot jackpots, it creates interest and intrigue for people who've only played home games in the past. I like the idea of being able to 'run it twice' at low-limit games just as it is allowed at higher levels. Seems snobbish when the house says they only allow it in the bigger games. I don't think it would slow down the game enough to offset the upside of having the option. When it's so common to see it on TV these days, it's a cool option for live play (and ...

dispute between me and bakes
NEW SOLUTION Since neither guy had malicious intent and both guys have to claim at least partial fault.....how about Bakes just freerolls MattG for a 25% stake of his $10k Main Event (or 50%)....with a max payout set at $100k or $200k. Both can feel decent enough about that without exchanging "hard dollars," can both admit they screwed up, and can move on with their lives with a chance at a true win-win situation.

Day job, young family and poker
Good discussion, as this is a really tough balance for a lot of people including myself. I've found the 45-man sit-n-gos to be a really nice fit. It's a 2-hour commitment, I can fire up several at a time, and there's a nice rush when you make a final table. The 24+2 on FTP has quite a few bad players, and the 69+6 is beatable as well. Obviously you don't get any deep stack play, but it's a nice middle ground between MTTs and your standard 1-table SNG.

FTP step question for ftpdoug
Good rant. Sorry to bring up a sore subject, but I agree that there should be more flexibility given the amount of promotion the sites put behind them. I hope the sites aren't intentionally designing the program this way to encourage more "lost" money in the system because of the breakage involved with tickets not being used. FTPDoug - any answer to my original question' Can a first-time winner unsubscribe from a WTP seat if they sattelite in through the steps' And receive tournament dollars' Thanks in advance.

FTP step question for ftpdoug
I just noticed the step qualifiers rolled over from WSOP to WPT packages. Can players still unregister from these qualifiers to receive tournament dollars' Or only if winning multiple packages' Thanks. Need to know because I wanted to step into WSOP, and couldnt play in WPT. By look at rules, I'm guessing this isn't possible'''' Thanks.

PokerStars final table replays?
Does Stars still run the replays where you can see all hole cards for the ENTIRE final table' (where it runs on a loop within the tournament lobby) Or do they only show hole cards for the edited versions on PokerStarsTV where you only see the bustout/big hands'

Re:DuckU is not Real
Good stuff Greg. Impressive display of grinding that shortstack at the final table. Too bad about the TT<44 hand, would have been a lot of fun watching you play deep-stack poker with so much at stake. Oh, and I think I may have seen DuckU the other day. It was a guy wearing green and yellow, shanking a replacement 2-iron, and yelling "Swiper! No swiping!" It must have been him. LOL at stpauli111

Re:Flexibility of Tournament Tickets???
Asking about FTP. But sounds like my findings were accurate, and the site is making some extra dimes by doing exact tickets instead of tournament dollars. Lame.

Flexibility of Tournament Tickets???
Probably a repeat post, can someone direct me to a thread please' Are tournament tickets redeemable for cash' (like tournament dollars where you pay 5%) Are you able to use tournament tickets to pay for other size buy-ins' Or does it have to be that exact buy-in like it appears' Any flexibility with these at all if you don't want to play in the sattied tournament'

Re:gross spot with qq in sb in 45 man facing a small 3 bet
I've seen too many really bad plays at the 24+2 level to fold QQ here. Without reads, I would dump TT though, and JJ would depend on how I felt at the moment.

Re:Tough Spot w/ AA Beginning of FTP $1k
So if you are checking the turn to get future value, you're probably trying to tell your opponent "I was 4-betting AK and missed the flop." So if that's the case, I think you have to ship the turn. If you were willing to get it in the flop (your argument was getting value, not pot control), the only hand in your opponent's range that hit the turn was JJ. Yes that's in his range, but just as likely he could have had TT, which you are either getting value from or folding out by shipping turn.

Re:ftp cash out
I have never had a check bounce from Tilt (over a few years). Though I received my first ever email a few weeks ago telling me to not cash a recent check that been sent to me, and the money was redeposited into my account.....so I suppose I was about to have my first ever bounce, but saw the email before depositing. I can't wait til this industry gets regulated, and people don't have to put up with these issues. All the legal bullshit is killing new participation. It's killing the game.

Re:Going Pro? --- How many will fail?
It's interesting that a mere 18-24 months ago, threads were riddled with a consistent wave of posts saying how it is not that difficult to make 50-100k per year, even grinding games as small as 1/2 and 2/4NL. Nowadays though, the popular theory is that it is a much tougher gig. Which I completely agree with. The new money has dried up, and the real soft spots that used to be handing out their money are few and far between. Obviously a number of factors have led to a steep decline in new players to the game. Sadly, my belief is that its largely due to the ugly scandals (building a ...

Re:how much money are you gonna leave in your accounts come december?
Jennifear - Here's my problem with your explanation, which is what I have heard from other tax professionals as well. If I win $1,000,000 in one month, then lose $1,000,000 in the next month....am I really supposed to pay 30% tax on the first win ($300k) and deduct the loss on my next month, which deducts at a much smaller percentage (not sure exact number, but maybe 15-20%)''' If your stated "wins" and "losses" are counted every day, or every session for that matter, even a mid-stakes grinder would end up paying a horrific amount of taxes in a breakeven year. Nobody ...

Re:Live cash game hand analysis
If you were playing with money that you were afraid to lose, you should have left the table and come back later at your $100 buyin. As played, you HAVE to shove in this spot unless he gives you some really good reason not to (like flipping over his junky two pair). You must get value from AA. He could have two pair, but most fishtards playing a 1/2 game will chk-call or chk-small raise with a set or 2pair here....they won't make the huge overraise. You are still ahead of a flush draw and crushing any naked king.

Re:$3-6 NLH Tough spot/looking for thoughts
I would like to throw in a new line of thought. First I agree that you can really play this pot all the way or fold, and either play is fine. One is not a whole lot better than the other as you pointed out. Just depends if you want to gamble for a stack. However given your ranges, if you decide to play it all the way, how about just calling the flop (with 100% intention to get it in on the turn). Here's the reasoning... He is never folding to a flop shove - maybe 1-3% chance. Now if you smooth-call the flop, your range appears to be very strongly a set or a poorly played middle pair ...
