Re:So I watched Capitalism: A Love Story tonight...
Except that the people having the most children are on average more unintelligent and more fiscally irresponsible than those having less children, because intelligent people realize it costs a LOT of money to raise a child and put them through college. And before people with big families start getting all pissed, I'm not saying that all families with lots of children are uneducated. Just that on average it seems to be the case, and one of the reasons the extreme right political ideology will continue to thrive. And yes by inference I am calling the extreme right unintelligent (not ...

Re:Do you consider alcoholism a disease?
I consider alcoholism to be a serious addiction that a lot of people can't completely control. The problem I have with calling it a disease is that rehab centers and AA tell people with drinking problems that it is not their fault. I know people that have come out of AA saying, "It's not my fault. Alcoholism is a disease." I'm sorry, but it is definitely that person's fault to a certain extent. I know that everyone has varying degrees of addictive personalities, but in my experience most people with a drinking problem already have problems taking responsibility for ...

Re:eric holder confirms assault weapons ban 2
You hit the nail on the head, and made my point. The common people did have the same types of arms as the government, because it was possible and feasible in that time. You want to argue that today it is feasible or safe for civilians to own all the same types of weapons as the federal government'

Re:eric holder confirms assault weapons ban 2
No sane person that is purchasing these guns or arguing for them to remain legal, is doing it with the intent of using them against an oppressive government. Therefore, if no one is purchasing the guns for this purpose that you keep talking about, then you can't use that as an argument for it. Are you really trying to argue that people should have these superior weapons so that the federal government does not have superior fire power than its individual citizens' Should Joe Schmo from Texas be allowed to make nuclear weapons'

Re:eric holder confirms assault weapons ban 2
If one of the main purposes for the 2nd amendment exists to allow for the citizens to use arms to overthrow the federal government, as many suggest, then the amendment should just be changed. No way could any group of Americans use force to overthrow the government in today's climate. The Confederates lost, and never again will any group from within America be able to challenge the power of the federal government. Sorry, but that's the way it is. There is little purpose in people owning these type of guns. Many of the people advocating for gun rights are the people who love feeling ...

Re:The WSOP Main Event needs to be a $30,000 buy in event.
I've played 4 10k events for the record. I don't play much these days as I am one of the ones who pretty much went busto post UIGEA. I do however have a law degree and my reading comprehension is okay. It warms my heart that you feel sorry for me though, thanks. I'm not the player you are, but I am certainly glad I am not the person you are. I know you never said anything about venue change, WSOP, etc., which is why your statement is incorrect. Your logic is flawed. There are variables other than buyin. You said that every time the buyin goes up the level of play goes up. That is ...

Re:The WSOP Main Event needs to be a $30,000 buy in event.
Actually SCT, a 25K WSOP Main Event buy in will draw a lot weaker competition than any 10k buy in on the WPT tour. There are many factors to consider, such as, total number of entries, number of satellite entries, the type of event. The Main Event being the Main Event will always draw a ton of bad players, even if the price goes up. So your statement is not only extremely mean and condescending, it is also not correct in all instances. Edit: Not to mention that the 100r on stars is considerably harder than the 10k main event, or any 2k+ live event for that matter, which also refutes your ...

Re:So will this TIFFANY MICHELLE chick be the new moneymaker?
the new jamie gold or varkoni' are you serious' If she makes the final table she is set for life. There hasn't been a woman at the final table since '95. Any reasonably attractive woman that makes the final table of the main event in this day and age will have more sponsorship than pretty much anyone in the game. She is much better than reasonably attractive as well. She is actually really hot. If she makes the final table she will be the new face of poker forever.

Re:Feel Sorry for Hoodini....
It's called integrity. There are people who have it and people who don't. People who have it would wait at least a certain amount of time because they know it is the right thing to do. People who don't have integrity constantly wonder how other people can make such a "stupid" decision and not blind someone off when it's for 30k. People without integrity can never understand how people with integrity make such unselfish decisions for the sake of making an ethically sound decision. Some people feel it is more important to win the right way than it is to simply win as ...

Re:Shame on you: collusion between "BerkleyBoss" and "MoormanI" in FTP Daily $162
The OP went about this in totally the wrong way with his subject line, but if I were him I would think it was collusion too just on an initial reaction. Everyone defending Moorman and Berkeley because they're friends with them but if you looked at this as player x and player y it looks pretty suspect. I don't think anything happened from their responses but it still looks pretty bad from the initial plays. The first hand is extremely suspect. People saying the second hand is standard I disagree with. He is isolating for 18k more in a 30k pot. You find me a range that 67 plays 60% ...

Re(1): Wierd spot preflop w Jacks in Million
First off, these are not the stats of a losing player like everyone is saying. You really can't tell from this DB whether this player is good or not. It is only a sample of 54 tournies, and his avg. buy in is $222. All you can tell from this DB is that this player plays mostly high buy in tournies. He likely plays a mixture of $100, $200 and $1k tournies, and the fact that he has lost 10k over 50 tournies really doesn't mean anything about his skill level. With that said, I think this is a fold unless you have seen erratic play from him recently. I don't think he is shoving a worse hand ...

Re(5): I gotta let the cat out of the bag...
learn to not be afraid of money' pretty much the only place that is useful is in gambling. gambling in many ways teaches you to respect money less, which is not a very good life lesson. once you win 15k in one day at the age of 15 it is pretty hard to ever aspire to earn an "honest" living working 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year. I use the term honest not in a derogatory manner, but in the manner that 98% of people have to earn a living. Quite honestly I view poker very similar to profesional sports, where only the top .01% can actually make a living at it. However, the problem with poker and ...

Re(8): I gotta let the cat out of the bag...
I don't have a huge problem with underage playing, but I understand why the rule is there, and I believe it should be enforced stronger than it is. Pokerstars having a change birthday option on the dropdown menu is just atrocious. Your argument that Annette and Damage1 don't need protection because they are successful is not a good argument. For every annette and Damage1, there are 50 other people who are not that good and cannot make it in poker. I do believe it is easier to become addicted to things at a younger age and not see things for what they really are. I am certainly not in the ...

Re(9): I do not know where to begin, but here it goes....
Randers, unless you're levelling everyone here, for someone who puts up good results in poker, you certainly aren't a very logical thinker. You can't see how buying a seat is unethical' Equity in tournaments is all about every single person in the tournament having one buyin and an equal chance to win (assuming equal skill). That is why you cannot check down hands intentionally heads up in a tournament (at least not explicitly) but you can in cash games. Every decision affects everyone else in the tournament. Replacing a random player with an extremely good player affects everyone in the ...

Re(2): Hypocrisy with Imp and Andy
Playing underage and multiaccounting are definitely not equal crimes. However, I believe there is a correlation. There is a reason that sites have rules that you cannot play until you are 18, and most casinos in the US don't let you play until you are 21. There is a ton of maturing that goes on between the ages of 16 and 21, and it is not a coincidence that the vast majority of immature posts and cases of mulitaccounting/cheating come from very young people who just really have not learned from life experiences yet. When I was 18 I wasn't worried about a damn thing. I can't even imagine ...

Re(1): 60/40 FTW?
It depends on if he is going to turn his cards over and shove all in on every subsequent pot. If the answer to this is yes, then fold and pick a better spot. If no, then call because the blinds are nowhere near small enough for you to pass this edge and outplay your opponent. Not to mention this would never happen and he would never flip over his cards, and AQ is an absolute monster that plays a lot better than 60/40 against any range he is shoving.

Re(1): Unusual FT situation: play to win or fold to 2nd place?
First of all, in poker, you are not "playing to win." You are playing to maximize your equity. In some cases it is correct to pass up on a situation which may better your chances of getting first in order to increase your equity. This situation is not one of those times though. The chip stacks are not near drastic enough for you to simply fold up a spot, and you have a great chance to get more chips and vastly increase your chances of getting 1st in the tourney. You got your money in in a great spot to double up and got unlucky. If you win the pot you have 40 big blinds and are right back in ...

Re(4): A Difference of Opinion Regarding Playing on AP...
I just disagree with you that one decision does not say something about a person. Pretty much everyone I know that I consider to be moral and ethical time and again make the correct ethical decision. I really don't see too many gray areas when it comes to most ethical situations. There are some, but there is almost always a right and a wrong. People I consider to be ethical almost always make the right choice, and those I consider to be unethical almost always make the other choice. There are a couple instances where this is not true, but I have found this to be the case in the vast majority ...
