playing poker for a living I see so many posts from players asking what it takes to play poker for a living etc... then 100 people respond with the right MTT strategy, what buyins to play, how many buyins u should have in your roll. I realize this is primarily an MTT site and all, but how can anyone suggest the best route to making a living playing poker is tournaments'' You need to be able to withstand prolonged droughts in cashes, play 50-60 hours a week and at inconvenient times, and have a very substantial bankroll to play consistently in the larger tournaments. With cash games you can play when you want, and with ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): 6 figure income If you want to make a living playing poker, play cash games... end of story. Not many people can endure the swings of playing exclusively tournament poker. Learn solid strategy, get experience, and employ self discipline when you play and you will make money. When you end up at 2/4 or above you can easily make 100k+ a year. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): A situation that eludes me... I don't agree with that really... with you shortstacked to the point of that pot almost doubling you up, I think you hit that flop plenty hard enough to push all in. Very rarely are you going to run into a hand like the Ad5d that completely has you crushed. You have good fold equity, and if you get called by the Ad you are slightly ahead, by a ten and you are only slightly behind. I like how you played it (only due to the chip stacks and pot size) Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(5): Interesting hand.. super thursday That's an interesting idea of just calling the turn, but I think that puts me in a bad spot on the river since I am first to act. If he has a hand stronger than mine (set) and I check to him on the river I think he almost certainly pushes all in and I have to call. Him value betting with the pot already that large and knowing I have something is unlikely IMO. If he has a hand like A7 and I call turn and check river he will most likely just check behind me and I lose the chance at the rest of his chips. Just my opinion, but i think just calling the turn in a -EV play here for those reasons. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(5): Interesting hand.. super thursday Yeah viper I agree with you, AA or QQ were unlikely but could not be ruled out at all. I was the first raiser and he had position on me, so his smooth call with AA was definitely possible and would probably been a smart play had he had it. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Interesting hand.. super thursday My read was smart TAG, thats why i gave his min raise much more thought than I normally would have. Remember, this min raise was for almost half his stack... suspicious' As for the whole hand, I just don't think my postion here was nearly as good as some of you think it was. When analyzing what he had during the hand, I thought it was VERY likely he had 77, with AQ as the second possibility, A7 third. So no I don't think I couldve beat many hands that he would've played in this way, even though technically there were many possibilities. But to make a long story short, I didn't trust my read ... Re(4): Interesting hand.. super thursday lol... this is not a self promoting post. This is a very complex postion due to all the factors that went into in, cards... bet amounts... stack sizes, and i thought would be good for discussion, particularly for the advanced tourney players. The purpose of my 1/2 pot size bets was to perhaps show weakness with my bets with what I clearly believed to be the best hand (maybe unbeatable on the turn) and try to induce a substantial raise. If I had a hand like AK I would have bet more strongly on the flop at least. Anyway, whats wrong with conveying i had KQ or other PP' That'd be great if he ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): fold or call this river? I see, really tho even if he's completely crazy this is still a -EV call on the river. Assuming this guy has any idea what he's doing he played the hand exactly like 10-10 or JJ. A little nervous as to whether you might have the ace at first and then very confident when the third ace fell. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): fold or call this river? Clear fold IMO... you can't beat anything except for a total bluff here. I think he has a PP between 10-10 and KK or even possibly an ace. Anyway, what were you doing playing Q6 out of position into a raise' You are just asking to get crushed here so you starting out the hand in the hole anyway. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Interesting hand.. super thursday Well this might appear to be an easy push, but several things made me very suspicious of his holding here. First, the min raise in the turn appears to be screaming for a call, or it is just a very odd bluff. I don't think theres any way he plays it this way with AK or similiar good but not great holding. Secondly, what kind of hand is he going to have that he is willing to tangle with me with when I am the only person at the table that can even come close to busting him. I don't think there are many hands at all that I can beat at this point, even with my strong holding. Really the only one i ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Interesting hand.. super thursday Following hand come up yesterday in the party super thursday tourney, I have a fairly large 2.5x ave stack with only one guy at the table that can really hurt me, who happens to be in the hand with me. Re(1): GGDUCKY - Check this HH Yeah muddy definitely agree with you there.. I don't know why gag made it $2700 pf anyway with his holding, but ducky shouldve just called that IMO to disguise his hand to some degree. He could also avoid getting committed to the hand if an ugly flop fell. But then again an ugly flop did fall and ducky had no issues with getting it all in here, so I'm not quite sure what he was thinking. Then again if this game is as aggressive as the 50/100 nl HE game maybe this kind of action is more common.. I haven't watched it enough to know Posted in: Poker Discussion |
