Moroccan men set themselves one fire I'm actually a very compassionate person, and very adept at putting myself in others' shoes. Setting themselves on fire seems like an extreme response to me in this situation, and it seems extreme in general. I can't imagine a time where I'd ever set myself on fire. I just can't. I can't imagine anything more horrific than being on fire. It's hard for me to believe that it would make a difference to a government that doesn't care about its people. I don't think I ever said that it wouldn't make a difference anywhere, at any time, or never has, just that I find it difficult to believe that ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Moroccan men set themselves one fire Why is it so wrong for me to think that setting oneself on fire is extreme GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES IN MOROCCO AS REPORTED ITT' It IS extreme. And I didn't think we were talking about the same thing as the examples you're giving. Are those the circumstances in Morocco' It sounds to me like the circumstance is that people aren't able to make a living, not that they're being killed and having babies heads hacked off and all that other stuff you mentioned. Let me make my position clear, because some of you don't seem to get it: If the issue is not being able to find gainful employment because ... Posted in: Off Topic |

This is Newt Gringrich Nope. Not even close. Nice try, though. I actually agree with you on this point and wish Republicans, and a lot of Christians, would stop making it their primary objective in life to prevent people from sleeping with/loving/marrying whomever they choose. I'm not really sure why they get so worked up about it. It's a non-issue for me. Posted in: Off Topic |

Abortion - Right to choose No, I'm not. But I am saying it's not as safe as people would like to believe. I'm also saying that i doubt that there would be millions of woman having abortions in motel bathrooms if abortion were not legal. A few dozen a year, maybe, but definitely not millions. The vast majority of people would be responsible for the life they created if it wasn't so easy to just get rid of it. They would do what the VAST majority of people did before abortion became legal, they would give up the baby for adoption, or figure out a way to raise it. It's not that hard. I would venture to guess that anyone ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Abortion - Right to choose I was only interested in educating, as I pointed out when I directed my comment "to jester and those who think it's only a lump of cells or tissue". I agree with you that pics of live fetuses would be more effective in making my point. I haven't been able to find those pictures readily, though. I've looked for them before, believe me. Don't you think it's easier to take pictures of babies once they're out of the womb, than while they're in it' I mean, that makes sense to me. It doesn't seem like a very hard concept to understand. How does the fact that these are victims of actual abortions ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Abortion - Right to choose Well, tell that to my cousin who was rendered sterile by a "safe", legal abortion. Or to the women who have died as a result of abortion. There are millions of abortions that take place each year in the US. If you honestly think there were a million or more back ally abortions taking place prior to abortion becoming legal, or that there would be that many if it wasn't legal, then you are sadly mistaken. Legalizing abortion increases the number of abortions astronomically. Posted in: Off Topic |

Abortion - Right to choose Maybe so, but there's a distinct difference between taking a pill to prevent implantation, and knowingly killing an unborn child once it is apparent that conception has actually occured and the unborn child has formed limbs, organs, a heartbeat and brainwaves. By the time a woman knows she's pregnant at about 5 or 6 weeks, at that point, life has already begun. I'm not a proponent of the morning after pill, but if I had to pick one or the other, I would pick it over having an abortion once there's already a heartbeat and the other stuff I mentioned. If you want to split hairs, then let's just ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Abortion - Right to choose Who said anything about "doctors playing God'" I'm not the one who brought God into this discussion at all. You guys did. I didn't say anything about being pro-life because it's not God's will. Good grief, but if ya'll don't beat that crap to death. Again, I became pro-life BEFORE I became a Christian and even if I never became a Christian, I would still be pro-life, because of SCIENCE! Posted in: Off Topic |

Abortion - Right to choose I wasn't trying to "upset" you. Just show you that it's actually a baby and not a "lump of cells". That was the goal. If it didn't upset you, then so be it. I am not advocating outlawing contraception. Contracept away, and more power to you! You kinda answered your own question about why the abortion rates are higher in those countries. Not because they outlawed abortion. Duh. Posted in: Off Topic |

Abortion - Right to choose These are second trimester abortions, fwiw. 22 or 24 weeks. Conception is the line for me, yes, because I don't think anyone can accurately pinpoint an exact time when life begins, and for me, conception is the only logical point. I do agree that first trimester abortions are not as undesirable as 2nd and 3rd trimester, but I would rather err on the side of caution, than risk taking a human life. The bottom line is that abortion is legal in this country up to and including the 9th month of pregnancy. I had an ultrasound with my son at 9 weeks. I could see his heart beating, and I could see ... Posted in: Off Topic |

This is Newt Gringrich I know about history. I think you're missing my point entirely. In fact, I know you are. Early Christians were NOT Catholic. In fact, Catholicism of today looks nothing like what original Christianity looked like. Read Acts of the Apostles if you want to know what early Christianity looked like. I understand that there was a point in history in which the Catholic church reigned, but no, I do not believe it was based on the teachings of Jesus and the ideals of the original Christians. It seems to me that the Catholic leaders were a bunch of opportunists who used Christianity to build wealth ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Abortion - Right to choose Abortion IS shocking. I didn't make it so, it just IS. When the German people had to go look at the bodies of those killed in the Holocaust, they were not prepared for what they saw. It changed their perspective when they had to see what it was that was going on that they were supporting, or turning a blind eye to. If you guys think comments like this are going to upset me, then you're wrong. I put it out there, it's up to individuals to decide what they do with the information presented. If it makes even one person think about abortion a little bit differently, even if it's just a lurker ... Posted in: Off Topic |

I'm not sure why that would get me banned. Seems like people have posted worse. Maybe you've seen worse on other sites, but were the dead kids you looked at killed at the hands of a medical professional who takes an oath to preserve and protect human life' I was mostly posting those for people like jester who still believe the lie that it's "just a lump of cells", rather than recognizing the truth. Abortion - Right to choose Ok, well, I didn't think I did that in my response to LS. What one sentence did I focus on' I was responding to his comments in their entirety. My main point being that the reason I'm not in favor of legalized abortion really has very little to do with my thoughts on its racist undertones. I do believe that it has racist undertones, but that's not why I'm pro-life. Let me be clear, even if there wasn't a disproportionate number of abortions among non-white women, I would still be opposed to it. The race thing bothers me, because whether non-whites are volunteering for the procedure or not, ... Posted in: Off Topic |

This is Newt Gringrich Well, I'm not getting into a debate about religion. While I'm not disputing that Catholicism is a form of Christianity, it is a far cry from Protestantism and evangelical ideologies. They aren't even in the same ballpark. I know people will find this surprising, since apparently being a Christian automatically means that I care deeply about a Presidential candidate's religious views, I really don't care that much. I care much more about their stance on the important issues. Where, how, when and who they choose to worship, as long as it's not Satan (that would be a little hard for me to take, ... Abortion - Right to choose What' Do you even know what I'm talking about' I certainly don't know what you're talking about. In this particular thread, at what point did racism come up' When Sportbike, or whoever it was, posted that silly diagram and then made some comment about abortion eliminating the "ignorant's" from society or something of that nature. Moroccan men set themselves one fire So, let me ask those of you who are saying that it's ethnocentric to say that these men setting themselves on fire was basically unhelpful a question.
