Reflecting on 2010: How Did You Do? Pretty big transition year for me, both in life and poker. I separated from the Air Force after 8 years. Moved to LA from Ohio with my gf for Grad School and to have live poker options. Cashed in 3 of 7 WSOP events, top 50 in each. Bubbled a ME cash. Learned I could go to school and support myself playing poker. Pretty good year. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Consolidated downswings/running bad Thread I play 9-man turbos with about the same roi. I think my worst is 40-45 bi. I don't think that 100 bi downswing is THAT likely, but I think you can expect 75ish with enough volume. Posted in: Bad Beats |

Weird Spot at Commerce $1M Gtd Shover was a middle aged guy, 45-50ish. He had limped a ton and looked visual upset when he was raised and couldn't see a flop. I believe I had raised his limp 2 times b4 and he fold and called/folded flop. I wasn't too worried about the EP guy even though the call of 2/5ths his stack was weird. He didnt seem to be really aware of stack sizing and tourney strategy. Anywho...I tanked for a few minutes and decided to call, putting him on something like 77-JJ, AJ+. Shover showed AA. EP guy folded and was upset when a 6 hit as he apperently had 66. I still think it was most likely the right ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Weird Spot at Commerce $1M Gtd Blinds were at 150/300/25a. We were about 15 mins away from 200/400/50a and I have 10,000. The table had been very limp happy. I don't have a very good image, I have been raising about 3 times per orbit and had to show down a few steals. EP, MP, SB has been weak/tight and pretty straight forward to that point. BTN seemed to be a good player. EP limps with ~5,000 MP limps, has me slightly covered BTN limps, has me slightly covered SB completes with ~20,000 BB (Hero) raises 1,500 more with 10 10 EP calls MP SHOVES BTN fold SB folds Hero......' Re:WTF is up with Poker Stars customer service, deposit issues, tournament whackiness etc. This is beyond annoying. Was planning on playing the SCOOP $320 today. I rarely have time to play anymore, but was able to clear off today to play and now I have about 9 more minutes before registration closes and the deposit request hasnt went trough. Used to take about a minute, sitting on about 15 minutes now. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Standard, but what do you do? I play way more cash than tourneys. If I do play tourneys online they are generally over $100 buyins. I'm trying to be....well, less shitty at online MTTs and play some more mid-stakes to learn the game better. This is a pretty standard situation, but what is my line' This is in the $50/$70K. Don't have much of a read on either player. If they were shorter stacks, I would probably just shove. Re:Paying taxes quarterly? Hobby/Pro? Help? I have filed the last couple years and you CAN write off losses. You just can't write off expenses if you don't file as a pro (ex. mileage/airline tickets, internet connection). Basically, I have used pokertracker for cash and pokerdb for tourneys online. For live play, I have kept records using a spreadsheet and try keeping the entry/seat assignment card for tournaments. You will have to claim all your winnings, but can write off your losses. So, you will have a large amount of winnings to report, but will ultimately only be taxed for what you made over your losses. Additionally, to ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Hand From FTP Million You guys fire on the turn here' The guy likes to defend his blinds and has called me from the BB twice. Each time I took the pot with a c-bet on the flop. Bitter Sweet The past two days have to be the most bitter sweet of my poker life. I won a $1K Deepstack Extravaganza at the Venetian yesterday for my first live win. This was my biggest cash on paper too (we took some money off the table in a chop, but played it out). This lead me going into Day 2 of the WSOP feeling pretty good. I was playing well and was eventually able to get it all in against John Hennigan with KK vs Q 10 on a J 9 7 flop. Unfortunately, a 8 hit me on the turn. Not sure the point of the post. I guess just the high to a low on consecutive days. Posted in: Poker Discussion |
