Best place in Atlantic City for $2/5, $5/10 NL and daily MTTs
I'm going to AC over the holiday weekend, and was wondering if people had any advice on where the best $2/5 and $5/10 NL games are (and $1/2 NL for the girlfriend). How comparable are these games (as in players' styles, and difficulty level) to those in Vegas and LA' Also, do any of the casinos run daily MTTs under $200' This will be my first time playing on the east coast since moving out here, so I appreciate all the help I can get. Re(5): Cash Game NL Hand -- Did I misplay it?
I think the post flop play was fine, but calling a raise out of the big blind with A2o is not a great idea. You're either going to win a small pot (if an A hits and he doesn't have one) or lose a big pot (if you both have an A and an A comes on the flop). Even if he's stealing, just muck it preflop and look for a better spot. You're out of position with a weak A, and your opponent is a decent TAG player. Evan

Question about 4 tabling on laptop without overlap. Buy external monitor?
I purchased a new laptop a couple months ago with a 17 inch screen and a max resolution that is not large enough to support 4 tabling without overlap. I have recently become annoyed with multitabling this way, and I feel like I could significantly improve my hourly rate if I could see all 4 tables at once. Party poker beta messes with my PAHUD stats display, and I play on several other sites that don't allow table resizing. Is there a way I could hookup the laptop to an external monitor that did have a large enough screen resolution to multi-table without overlap' Has anyone else done this, ...

Re(4): What weapons do we have in our pokerarsenal?
I play a lot of heads up sngs, and I've started using a play that seems to work a lot. If the board ends up w/ 4 of a suit and my opponent bets pot on the river, I'll often raise minimum as a bluff. Since people won't usually bet pot with the A high flush, this play almost always works. It's especially successful if you raised preflop (since it's easier to you put you on an A), and your opponent needs to not be a complete donk for it to work. Another play that I use works well after I've set it up early in the heads up sng. If I raise preflop, make a continuation bet, and get called on the ...

Re(3): Low NL Cash Games - Grinding it out
Jack, I am currently a low limit NL grinder, and wanted to let you know a couple of things about the games. First, I think if you are going to play the lower limits, you should opt for the 6 handed tables. If you are a good player, these tables are gold mines because you have more opportunities to take advantages of the weaker players. Because the players are looser, playing the smaller tables also results in fewer multiway pots which can be difficult to play at those levels. Second, you don't have to play super tight to be successful at these limits. In fact, I think the most successful ...

Re(3): Do you call? First hand at table. 3/6nl (preflop)
If you knew he had at best AK, you should absolutely call. Why do people always say AK vs QQ is a coinflip' QQ wins 57% of the time against AK. That is not a small advantage in the long run. If you ran this same situation 100 times, you would win $6300. NL cash games are about pushing edges. Plus, calling with this hand will do nothing to change your image. Anyone who thinks you calling there with QQ is a bad play obviously doens't know how to play and probably isn't even thinking about image anyway. Evan

Re(2): what is this technique called?
Pclark, In response to your statement: "Poker should be played around a table with chips thrown in the midle. No calculating the exact pot odds or folding equity, etc." A) Why are you posting on an Internet Poker forum if you say poker should only be played on a table with chips' B) What does naming certain common poker plays (which is what this thread was about) have to do with pot odds or fold equity' C) How can you possibly say that calculating pot odds isn't important' Yes, there is psychology involved in poker, but there are also situations where your decisions are basically based on ...

Re(2): Question about possible "steps-like" strategy for playing NL cash games to build bankroll.
Thanks for all the replies. I wanted to clarify that it is in no way my intention to go from $25 NL to the $2000 NL as quick as possible. In fact, I really don't think I want to play that high at all. I am just looking to grind my way up to maybe $400, and thought this strategy might be profitable if done with enough discipline. I was only thinking of trying it to see if maybe I could use it to get up to $1000 so I could play $50 NL, and then just build normally from there. I'm currently two tabling $25, for 23.16 BB/100 Hands, so I definitely feel comfortable with moving up one level. Also, ...

So I guess I should just set an absolute mininmum bankroll that I will need before moving up my "base" game (from $25NL to $50NL for example)' I'm at about $400 right now, so should I wait till I get it up to $1000 before I even think about moving up' Evan

Re(2): Question about possible "steps-like" strategy for playing NL cash games to build bankroll.
Yah, it seems like the biggest possible problem with that would be knowing when quit. I hate of playing with a stop loss/ceiling strategy, but it seems like that might not be a bad idea once you get to a certain point. I have played higher limits consistently before, and didn't have too much a problem dropping down when I had to cash out to pay for fucking med school applications. Guess it will help with the discipline as well. Thanks for the input. Evan

Re(5): Arizona Casino's
Most of the casino's in the Phoenix area are Casino Arizonas, just with different locations (Fort McDowell, Talking Stick, etc.). Talking Stick is the one with the big poker room. I know that the lower limit games are pretty weak up through $8-$16. The $10-$20 is supposed to be really tight, but the $20-$40 up through $75-$150 can get pretty loose and crazy cause there are a bunch of rich people from Scottsdale that like to gamble. The $5-$150 is pretty weak too. Lots of limpers and people calling raises with very marginal hands. They also have some daily 11 AM tournys some days and ones at 7 ...

Question about possible "steps-like" strategy for playing NL cash games to build bankroll.
Hi, I've been playing a lot of 6 handed $25 NL on Party Poker to try to build a bankroll. I'm a pretty serious and studious player, and am trying to work on my game and eventually move to higher games. I seem to be consistently beating the $25, but I only play about 1-2 hours per day during the week so it's slow goings. I began to think about trying a new strategy for awhile to try to build a little quicker, slightly based on the Party Poker step sit n gos. I wanted to know if anyone has tried this or has any opinions: (All 2-tabling 6 handed NL games) Start a session playing $25 NL. If you ...

Re(1): Arizona Casino's
Casino Arizona is in Scottsdale. It spreads limit holdem from 3-6 up to 75-150 I think. They also have a spread limit/no limit game where you can bet any incrament of $5 from $5-$150. Also, they have some low limit stud games, and 3-6 and 6-12 omaha hi/lo. They also sometimes open up other games on the weekends if there's enough demand. I've been to Fort McDowell Casino once, which is in Fountain hills. They have 2 daily low buying tournys (somewhere between $30-$50 I think) and during that they also had 1 table of $3-6 and 1 of $4-8 limit holdem. To be honest, I'm not sure if they're 21 or ...

Re(1): Good push? Bad push?
Your effective M was about 2.8 here, so I think a push w/ a PP here is pretty straightforward. You still have some fold equity, and if you get called more often than not it will be a coinflip. Can't get blinded and anted off waiting for aces. Evan

Re(1): Note taking
One thing I like to note in NL cash games is what certain bet sizes mean. Most importantly I note what people have when they make min bets in certain situations. For example, if I see someone min raise preflop with AQ, and then make a 4xBB raise w/ QQ, I'll know that their min raises are indicators of semistrength and bigger raises mean premium hands. e.g. "PFMR: AQ" means "Pre Flop Min Raise w/ AQ" I also like to note what people have when they make a small bet into me on the flop after I raised preflop. If I see someone make a small or min bet into me on the flop and then folds to my ...

Bodog Heads-Up Sit n gos
I'm trying to work on my shorthanded and heads up tournament game, so I decided to try the $10 heads up sit n gos on Bodog last night. In the 10-12 matches I played last night, I noticed that most of the players were actually passive and fairly predictable, distinctly different from the allin-fest cash games on that site. -Has anyone who has played these regularly noticed similar trends' -Also, for anyone who plays heads up matches seriously, what is a good/reasonable win percentage or ROI to try to shoot for' -And last, what site has the softest heads up matches and/or shorthanded sit n gos' ...

Re(1): A Question for you Math Freaks
Tigger, It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that the number of players in a hand affects the percentages of you hitting your hand. If you have a flush draw on the flop, there are 9 cards out of the 47 remaining unknown cards in the deck. Even if 18 of the unknown cards in the deck were delt to your 9 opponents, they are still unknown to you and you must consider them part of the deck. Yes, it may be possible in that situation that 4 of the remaining spades were folded preflop or are in your opponenets hands, but you can't assume that a certain percentage of your outs are % ." That ...

Re(2): Question about 4 handed sit n gos play
Thanks for the responses guys. Grapsfan, I wanted to respond to some of your points. First, I am actually very knowledgable about the math and odds of almost all situations. I have no problem raising a short or a big stack with K9 or even something like 87s, knowing if I get raised all in by a big stack I can fold, and if a short stack pushes I can usually figure out if I'm getting odds to call. I think my main problems can be exemplified by the following situations: -A short stack is on the 200 chip BB and has 900 left, and the big stack is the SB with 3700 left. I have 2000. If the UTG ...
