I tried to register at 9:00pm the night before for a $1500 last year and they had just closed registration...sucks....if you know you are going to play and have the money to buy in then do it at least by noon of the day before.

Yep...the only response that is correct so far. However, the exclusion is only a deduction for "earned income". If you have a job overseas and have foreisgn earned income, you wiull have to put your poker winnings under "Other Income" and then you will not get the benefit of this deduction for this other income. For the guy in Sweden that doesn't plan on returning to the USA, you still have to file if you are a US Citizen. It's not that complicated. You put your gambling income on the front of the 1040 form under Other Income. Whether you had losses or not does not come into play yet. Your Adjusted Gross Income takes a hit from this "Other Income" and it could affect your Althernative Minimum Tax. You can deduct your gambling losses up to the amount of your winnings on your Itemized Deductions. It is not limited by the 2% rule. They changed the law for Canada recently. It is a quasi tax treaty country since you could offset your losses by your winnings. Go to a Tax Accountant for more info. All you need ot do is bring your passport and if you win >$5000 in a tournament, Harrahs will give you all the paperwork to fill out. They should be able to get oyu a TaxID number on the spot. Also, be sure to save all your receipts (hotels, taxis, food etc.)...your accountant will need them.

I was just there and had the clock called on me by this asian dude in the Venetian $550 deepstack. He wasn't even in the hand and I had AA vs. a board of J36 rainbow that the other player pushed all in on the flop. WTF' Needless to say, the idiot clock call messed me up and I end up calling only to see the other player holding a J3. I wanted to kill the Asian dude! Besides the J3 pissass who called my 4x raise from 2nd position.
