Note about brick & mortar casinos - Ask before you rely on Web site tourney schedules The wife and her sisters are taking their mother out of town for the weekend so I'm free to make my first trip to Ocala Poker and Jai Lai. I look at the home page and there's a special Mother's Day tournament for Sunday advertised. When I click the tournament schedule there's a $100 Deep Stack tourney on Saturday and no tourneys scheduled for Sundays. I figured I better call and double check. A nice lady named Carol answered. She confirmed that, yes, a Mother's Day tournament is scheduled on Sunday. I asked about the blind structure for the Saturday tournament and she said, "Oh, we haven't ... Posted in: Live Poker |

Deep in Sunday's FTP 126K Guarantee and Short Stacked… am I pushing here? 1) With ~ 10 BB and M of less than 5 am I desperate or just short stacked 2) My thought is that I still have enough chips that if I shove the SB with no action in front of me that I can get the BB to fold. I LOVE the horrible player that whines when someone hits a suckout on him We all know him. I'm playing the FTP 17:30 $10 KO. Guy at my table is horrible but on a card rush. Limps under the gun with K9, calls a big re-raise out of position, and cracks QQ. Consistently gets his money in bad and consistently suckouts over and over. Builds his stack up to over 11k at one point. Of course, the tide turns and his stack drops to 4k at 120/240/25. He min raises from mid-position for what seems like the 10th time in a row. I look down at AJ in the BB with a stack of about 5.5k. It's push or fold and as wild as he's been there's a very good chance that he has a weak ace ... Posted in: Bad Beats |

Is there a strategy for dealing with the flush chasers in NLHE? Without turning this into a bad beat thread this is the thing about poker that I don't understand. Flushes are so valuable because they're difficult to hit. Yet people hit them all the time. Raise up 3x... get a call from middle position. Hit a set, or top-top make a pot size bet with two suited on the board, get a call. Turn's a blank, bet big again, get another call where you're pot commited, and he gets there on the river. Repeat over and over and over... I never know anymore if I should bet more so the chasers pay me if they don't get there. Or do I slow down so I don't get killed ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Looking for Final Table rail love - 19:45 $10 KO of FTP wasnt meant to be. Finished 6h when I got it in with AQ vs A4. Of course A4 hits the flush draw. Of course I was short stacked earlier and got in with A8 and was called by AK and sucked out so I can't complain. Just nice to know that I'll have at least ONE FT in 2011! Thanks to everybody that stopped by and said hi. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Poker on Cruise Ships I've played poker on the cruises I've been on over the last 3 years. The first was Holland America. They offered $1/$2 Limit Cash and 2 $50 Single Table tourneys. Dealers were horrible to the point where they didn't even know the rules. For example, I was heads up with AQ and it got to showdown against A weak and the dealer went, "you both have a pair of Aces! Split pot!" I had to explain to the dealer I won with a better kicker and it took two minutes for him to comprehend. When someone called the dealer out after the dealer let a player retract a bet the dealer on it they would just go, ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

KQo in BB with 15BBs versus a shove... relatively deep in MTT With about 90 left in the 18:00 FTP 24+2 I have 29k with the blinds 1000/2000/250. That gives me 15BBs and an M of 6. UTG with shoves with 26k. I don't put him on a premium hand like QQ+ because I don't think he wants to kill the action. If he's pushing any small to mid-pair I'm 50-50. If it's a weak A then I'm 40-60. At some point I need to win a 40-60 to go deep rather than just hang around and cash. Do I call here or do I wait for a better spot' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Who else thinks Rush poker is ridiculous? I find it addicting but really haven't got the hang up. Is there a strategy unique to rush tourneys versus regular NLHE tourneys' At first I was trying to raise a lot of hands thinking you could get a lot of uncontested pots if people were using the QuickFold button. But if anything I've found people are more aggressive playing rush. For those that are doing well I'd appreciate some pointers. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Maybe the biggest hole in my game – I never know what to do with AK here This seems to be a recurring theme for me, especially with AK. It seems I end up spewing chips and I'm digging out of the hole. I welcome all comments on my analysis of how I played this hand. Hand from the Sunday 13:00 Deep Stack on FTP. I have in middle position and I'm sitting at slightly over starting stack of 5280. Blinds are 60/120 so I'm in reasonable shape with 44 BBs and an M of 29. Guy on my immediate right has double my stack and has been playing 5-6 hands an orbit. He makes the standard raise of 360. I'm Never Sure What Do with AK Number 1: From middle position I never know ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Is there a way I can deposit $25 AmEx gift cards? I'm running well in my real world job and have won a bunch of daily/weekly sales bonuses the last few weeks and have amassed a total of 10 $25 American Express Gift Cards. These gift cards spend anywhere that accepts AmEx. It doesn't like either Stars or Tilt has an AmEx option. Anyway I can turn these into a poker site deposit' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Horrible call or aggressive move to try and win? I'm running reasonably well in the 12:00 FTP guarantee today. I've got $9715 with the blinds at 200/400/50. I've got 24 BBs and an M of 12. I've got AK in the BB there's a shove in front of me of a 4k stack and a call by a big stack at 23k. Now what' I know there's a good chance I'm flipping with a 16% chance I'm dominated. But there might also be some AQs AJs KQs worked in there. I was aware that I was putting my tournament life on the line but if I ended up winning the hand I'm at 24K with a real chance to go deep. Big stack turns over KK... no help... GG me. I'm trying not to be ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

The Best Poker Books Out There? Yes, I aboslutely believe positive thinking can help every aspect of your life, including your poker game. But can't believing that the universe will grant your desires if you believe stong enough also hurt your poker game' Seems like you'd have tendancy to play over your bankroll "because you're lucky and destined to win." Or you'd chase draws without the right odds because you're "willing the cards to hit." While I believe in the power of positive thinking I also believe in the the laws of math. AK in satty on bubble I'm folding here. A-K isn't as big of a favorite as people perceive. You have no fold equity. Even if he's betting with 2-7o, you're only 2-1 fave. If he's doing this with A-x, you're only a 3-1 fave. If I'm eyeballing this correctly you're in 5th place. Even with the blinds escalating (is this a turbo) I'm playing pretty tight. I like my chances of the short stack having to get their money in bad before they blind out. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Looking for some rail love - down to Final 18 on FTP 12:00 $19,500 Guaranteed And Bubble Boy strikes again! Down to 10 and I've got 19 BBs with the blinds escalating. I had made a decisiont that I'm not playing for $190, the difference between the bubble and 9th. I was relatively card dead while the two big stacks at the table were very aggressive and stealing liberally. 2nd big stack makes it 3x, I push with AJ. He turns over the high end of his range, KK. LOL He actually gets quads. GG me. Thanks to everybody that stopped by. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

"Low Suited Cards... That's My Game" I'm kinda proud of myself. I'm playing a $22 tourney on Stars. I'm sitting at 2100. Blinds are 50/100 and there's a raise to 300. I repop it to 900 and hope we can get it all in. SB shoves for 3100. Original raiser folds. Hooray me! I call and he turns over 36d. Of course he hits his flush on the river and GG me. Yeah, I know, the standard bad beat story. The guy types in chat, "Sorry. Low Suited Cards... That's my game" Rather than my head exploding I managed the self discipline and typed back, "nh and gg. GL rest of tourney." I hope this guy goes deep and cashes. I want his play to ... Posted in: Bad Beats |

What's a good goal ratio for improving your game vs playing Like most amateur players, I'm time constricted as to how much I can devote to poker. I know that if I devote some of that time to studying poker via books/training sites/forums it will improve my game. Like I everybody else, it's more fun to actually be playing. What kind of ratio do some of the better players devote to studying and improving their game' Posted in: Poker Discussion |
