Re:Fleet Street Games - Freeroll for ALL P5ERS, NO DEPOSIT [deep sigh] I don't know how I could make this any clearer than I have, but I'll try. Fleet Street Games DOES NOT, repeat DOES NOT, tax your winnings. I am not sure what part of that is unclear. Like any other US entity that awards prizes, we are required by federal law and IRS regulations to report any amount you win in excess of $600 (total calendar year winnings). In the RARE case that you are subject to backup withholding, we are required to withhold 28% of any winnings in excess of $5,000 annually. You would normally only be subject to backup withholding if you have, in the ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Fleet Street Games - Freeroll for ALL P5ERS, NO DEPOSIT This is true - for now that is the only way we can lock a tournament from open registration. However, a password is only required for REGISTRATION, and as I hope everyone knows, we are pre-registering you. You will NOT need a password to play. I am pretty sure I mentioned this elsewhere in this thread, but if not please accept my apologies. Regards, Dan Goldman President and CEO Fleet Street Games Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Fleet Street Games - Freeroll for ALL P5ERS, NO DEPOSIT Adam said this in a different way, but let me give it to you from a company perspective. We are a US corporation, paying US taxes and abiding by US law, whether or not we like or agree with it. The backup withholding clause you refer to comes directly from IRS regulations. As Adam points out, it's not US taxing you - it's us complying with US law. Unfortunately, we don't get to keep the money; we make a quarterly filing with the IRS. Tell you the truth, complaining about it is very similar to being paid under the table, and then saying "why would I work for that guy over ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Fleet Street Games - Freeroll for ALL P5ERS, NO DEPOSIT For now, there are no countries in Asia from which it's legal to play on our site (click here for a list). Our outside counsel is still reviewing laws in major non-US countries, and we expect to be expanding the list of countries we serve over the next few months. Re:Fleet Street Games - Freeroll for ALL P5ERS, NO DEPOSIT We are doing the manual updates in two groups - (1) people who clicked through the link and (2) people who emailed us. (1) has now been completed for everyone who clicked Adam's link or the banners. For (2) Sharon has to review each email, confirm that you are a member and then manually add you to the tournament roster. The last I spoke with her, she still had 36 more to add, and I have confirmed that you are one of those. This is the first private freeroll we've run, and we're still getting the kinks out. Cut us a little slack, please. Regards, Dan Goldman President and ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Fleet Street Games - Freeroll for ALL P5ERS, NO DEPOSIT Yes - I know. When the UIGEA passed in September of 2006, it became unclear whether, as an officer of PokerStars, I could enter the US without fear of arrest. I was living on the Isle of Man at that point, which is frankly not the greatest place on earth to live, but wasn't all that bad provided that I could get back to the US regularly. When this became questionable, my wife and I started to seriously evaluate whether working for PokerStars was worth the potential risk. All things being equal, I would much rather have stayed with PokerStars, which is a TERRIFIC company. I was there ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Fleet Street Games - Freeroll for ALL P5ERS, NO DEPOSIT Yes, PokerStars could do the same thing, but they haven't Subscription poker is legal in 38 states plus the District of Columbia. It falls under contest law rather than gambling, the (rather arcane) distinction being (1) you pay a flat fee, so it's membership rather than arbitrary risk, and (2) the prize pools don't vary based on the number of players. This last brings up some sort of obvious strategy - you should watch the lobby and see what tournaments tend to attract less players, since your EV is directly tied to this number (since prize pools are fixed). Re:New Poker Website on P5? Hi guys, Well, it's pretty hard to compete with the Swank posts in this thread, but I'll try. First, by way of introduction - I was VP of Marketing for PokerStars from launch until May 2007. I left and came back to the US primarily because of the UIGEA - I wanted to be sure I could come back into the US without fear of being arrested. Indirectly, that's what led me to start Fleet Street Games. I wanted to start a site that gave US players a place where they could play for significant prizes (not the millions you see at PokerStars, but not pocket change either) without worrying ...
