Look how far we've come!!! Hopefully a word of encouragement.
Well I am in the midst of a pretty brutal downswing at this point in my poker career, and something tells me I'm not the only one :) I've trolled on this forum on and off for a few years, and have seen post after post of "how do you break a downswing" or "I hate poker right now" and "FML" etc..posts. I'm not saying these are bad posts, or it's wrong to evaluate your game when things aren't going well. However, I don't feel like poker players (especially poker players with a decent level of success) take the time to look at the BIG ...

Re:Folding KK pre in a 5/10NL cash game
Tough spot, is there any chance the guy was on tilt' I understand he's a solid reg, but like someone else said, wouldn't he want value from AA, if he's reg, I'm assuming he understands that. Unless by shoving he thinks he "disguising" his hand. With 90 BBs, it's really hard to find a fold with KK pre. (unless there like raise reraise then shove). Especially if AK and QQ are in his range. I don't fault you for going with your read, as you have more info. than anyone else here, but I would have called.

Re:Cash game players
Tilt softer games, Stars better rakeback. If you can get Supernova Elite go with Stars for sure, otherwise I would look at both sites for good games when grinding, why limit yourself to just one'

Re:Help me range this villain
He probably at that time, limps everything playable to him up to QQ, because he wants to "see a flop" without risking too much and he's soo used to getting sucked out on by "JOKERSTARS". Be weary of like 4.5x BB raises. I think it's less likely he will limp strong hands, because he has double the chips he used to have. So he will be willing to raise more because he isn't "risking too much." That being said, he will probably limps even more speculative hands, but raises more strong hands that he might have limped with the previous stack. I could be ...

Re:Cash game players/grinders
My advice would be to just play wherever you are comfortable. Go where the games are good. If you have $1000, and normally play 25NL, but there's a really juicy $50 game, by all means take a shot at it. "Moving up" doesn't mean you always play that stake from now on. And then move down again when the game breaks. On the other hand, if there is a very juicy 10NL game and no good 25NL games, move down. I think moving up is a gradual process, not a big leap. Take shots when the games are good or if you just want to test yourself, and then move back down. Then when you are ...

Re:Questions about short stacking cash games
Although there are some shortstackers who make money, whether fpp pros or who actually turn a small profit, you aren't maximizing your profitability. I would recommend playing lower stakes and learning full stacked poker, than learning short-stacked poker, and moving up stakes quicker. I think in the long-run you will make more money and be an overall better player. A good BB/100 is probably going to be like .5 or something for short-stackers, so you would have to play a ton of tables to really make decent money. Short-stack poker is pretty much shove/fold poker with occasional steals. ...

2009 WSOP PLO Cash Games
I will going to Vegas June 12th for a few weeks, and just wanted to know from the people who are already there how the Mid-stakes (2-5,5-10 range) PLO cash games are' I'm guessing they are soft. I'm not nearly as comfortable playing PLO as NL Hold'em, but if the games are gold mines I will play PLO. Thanks

Re:A 150BB deep hand to get advice on.
Knowing that he's limping with hands like 9-2, I think the raise pre is fine. If you have no previous information on the player I would just check the BB. But I'm assuming you have a solid read that he's limping very wide, and will pay you off when you hit. I would make the raise more like 80, I think 100 is a little bit big, I don't see him folding to any raise preflop, and A-8 is not a very strong hand. If you had a better hand like A-Q or A-K I would make it 100. I like the turn check, but would probably have raised the flop to about 300. You know you have the best hand ...

Re:2/4 NL cash game hand
Fantastic Cow is a Reg, and a competent player, although I have seen him get spewy before, but would assume he's playing tight and fairly straightforward with no immediate evidence. I would fold the first hand preflop, as played check-call, flop and turn, and depending on the river bet, fold or call. By raising the turn, you turned your hand into a bluff. I know you probably think you were protecting it, but you can't play that scared, and fwiw a river scare will probably scare him as much as it scares you. The second hand, I like a 3-bet pre-flop. You know Fantastic Cow's ...

Re:Amit "amak316" Makhija Disses p5er's ranked
I think alot of people's perception of cash games is skewed. The notion that cash game players do everything by the numbers, and it's a mindless grind just isn't true. The reason I enjoy cash games so much is the creativity you can have, due to the deep stacks. I mean think about it, there are so many different lines you can take with different hands with 100 or 200 BB's. In a tournament I feel my hands are tied most of the time because I have a 15-20 BB stack and every hand I play has to be all my chips. Even if I've got a big stack, the others players don't so, ...

Re:Amit "amak316" Makhija Disses p5er's ranked
I agree 100% with Amak online poker is about money, when I switched from SNG's and MTT's to Cash I was very pleasantly surprised. Also, I disagree with those who said cash games are boring. If you grind cash games they should keep you on your toes at all times, and if they're boring, you probably aren't playing them right, or you're mindlessly grinding and playing ABC poker.

Stick to the fundamentals. Error on the side of caution. Don't make creative plays. Don't play big pots without a big hand.

Re:Anyone here going for elite?
Well alot of people mass multi-table (15+tables of cash or sngs) The VPP's get built up pretty fast with such high volume. I can only play 10-12 games, I play 2-4NL and 3-6NL cash, and $60 and $109 sngs. So I'll have to put in alot more hours than the mass multi-tablers due to my lack of volume. I think you could probably get supernova elite mass multi-tabling 1/2 NL cash but I don't know if it's possible at any stakes lower than that, and I think $60 buy-in are about the minimum level to get supernova elite for sngs.

Re:Staying Active and playing poker full time
I think it's different for each person. But I think developing good exercising, eating, and sleeping patterns is extremely important to becoming a good player in the short and long run. I'm like you, in that I was an athlete in HS and College. If I miss a workout or a run, I feel guilty the rest of the day, and it just bothers me. I'm definetly in a worse mood, and it shows at the poker tables, as I sometimes feel anxious and my decision making worsens, therefore hurting my overall game, and life. I think exercising gives me an advantage at the table, so not excersing would be ...
